Snowplow Installation

Push Frame

Installation is quick and simple - just slide included shank assembly into your 2" receiver and secure with pin.

Snap Pins

Then lift the blade, one end at a time, onto the frame's holders and fasten with snap pins.

Plow blade showing 3-point directions

The SnowSport HD blade is mounted on an angled, 3-position shank assembly, allowing you to plow to the left, to the right or straight ahead.

How to Plow

Plow

To plow, lower the blade and begin driving; no wiring or hydraulics are needed. The unique push frame on the shank assembly allows the blade to move along the grade of the terrain for easier, more efficient plowing. The heavy-duty rubber cutting edge is effective yet turf friendly, collecting snow and squeegeeing slush without digging into the ground.

Reverse

When you reverse direction, the blade lies back, skimming over the surface of the ground so that you can easily take another pass.

Backing Up

Once you're finished plowing, just lift the blade and refasten into the travel position. The blade is secure enough to travel at highway speeds, and the low-profile design keeps it from blocking your vehicle's headlights. Removal for storage is quick and easy. The plow can be used on the rear of your vehicle, making it a cinch to back out of your snow-packed driveway.

Video Transcript for Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Toyota Tundra

Today on our 2001 Toyota Tundra well be installing the Curt Front Mounted Hitch, part number 31180. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next well go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the front most edge of the bumper is two and three quarter inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14 inches. First, before we can install the hitch, well need to remove the front tow hooks.

Keep in mind as we go through our installation, each process we do here on the passengers side will get repeated identically on the drivers side. With the four fasteners removed securing the tow hooks in place, this will open up the weld nuts to secure the hitch. At our forward most attachment point well use the hitch as a template and drill a hole in the frame, installing fasteners to secure it. First, before we can install the hitch well need to cut out some of the front fascia. Using a paint stick well go ahead and mark out the area and then take our dremel and cut it out.

Now with the area cut out were ready to go ahead and put our hitch in place. Well be securing the weld nut attachment points with the new 12 mm bolts and conical tooth washers. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Now with these four fasteners installed finger tight, well go ahead and tighten them down. This will now secure the hitch into position so we can use the hitch as a template to drill out our half-inch hole so that we can install the half-inch carriage bolt and block into the frame and then secure it with the half-inch blanch nut.

To get our hardware into the frame well use our pull wire to go through the attachment point and out the access hole, further back and the side of the frame, near the tire. Now with our pull wire out of the access hole we can go ahead and take our block and slide it onto the pull wire and thread on our carriage bolt. Well feed the block and then bolt into the frame and pull them into position. Remove the pull wire and install the phalange nut. Now with both sides done we can go ahead and tighten down the phalange nuts.

Next well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. That will complete the install of the Curt Front Mounted Hitch, part number 31180 on our 2001 Toyota Tundra.

Picked this up from etrailer for a great price, so i can put a hitch-mounted winch on the front of our race tow vehicle (and perhaps use it to get the trailer into tight spots). As always with etrailer, it was delivered quick (and free!). One of the arms was just slightly bent (perhaps from shipment) so I had to whack it a couple times with a heavy hammer to get the holes to line up, but after that it fit perfectly. The little "fishing" tool included is extremely handy for installing the two bolts that need to come from inside the frame of the truck.

All in all, quality is great and this particular one fits with my factory skidplate/splashguard with a small amount of trimming with some metal shears.

PS - we also have stuff from etrailer on the rear end. Highly recommend anything you buy from etrailer!

Working out fine. Ive used it a few times for various things, and it still looks brand-new no rust or visible wear. Overall still very pleased with the price and quality.

by: Kevin McN.08/26/2015

My hitch arrived quickly and my mechanic installed it in 1.5 hours for me a few days later. The factory skid plate fits nicely with 2 holes cut as a modification. His only concern is he will now have to use hand tools instead of his air tools on some bolts holding the skid plate at oil change time. But no big deal at all.

I keep a 16 foot boat in my warehouse and maneuvering room is very tight. The door is narrow and there is a building across from my door that leaves very little room to maneuver my truck in. With my new front hitch I put the boat in the warehouse in less than a minute the first try.

The front hitch makes it easier in 2 ways:

1) visibility-you can see what you are doing. You are closer to your work and you are looking straight at it.

2) with the trailer closer to the front wheels you can do things in tight quarters that just can't happen working with the rear hitch. Using the rear hitch the front of your truck would hit the wall of the opposite building.

My only regret is not getting this ten years ago. I recommend a front hitch to anyone who needs to maneuver a trailer in tight spaces.

Easy Installation on my 05 Tundra, can be used with the stock splash guard/skid plate. Bolts up nice and solid. All hardware is included. Uses 4 stock (pre-existing) holes in the frame and then you have two drill two more. You have to fish two bolts through the frame tube, but the wire fishing tool is included and it was much easier than I thought it would be. I had to do some minor trimming off the edge of the stock skid plate. This was easy I just cut a tab about 6-8 inched long with tin-snips and folded/rolled the tab in about 1/2 inch deep. This allows full clearance for the hitch and plate. You can install easily in about an hour. The tow loops are a nice addition. Overall very happy with it and worth the money.

It's rad...

Tiny more $than expected
(was hoping for hundo vs 140$ in the end)

Fits with my bull bar I use for road protection and has proved itself - just had to cut a hole for the hitch...

by: Robert 10/29/2021

High quality receiver, both structure and finish. Routine install with a reasonable amount of effort. Still looks new after a year. Get's little use as a front end "Pusher" hitch but I really like having that capability when things get tight. Delivery was very prompt as well. Overall excellent buying experience.

Robert

No change. Still looks and works like new.

by: Rich 10/20/2023

Easy to install, looks good, I like the large tie-downs. I use it for my front winch and just pulling things around.

by: Peter M.05/02/2013

This is the second hitch I have ordered from etrailer and both hitches went on "without a hitch" (I couldn't resist). Instructions were direct and easy to follow.
Congratulations etrailer on delivering as promised---very much appreciated in this day and age. Great crew and good team work. Thank you!

Hi Patrick,After one year of extensive use through a very harsh winter, the hitch is working beautifully. It is holding a diamond plate tool box with apps. 200ponds of camping gear. I still get a lot of comments and questions about it as it is mounted on the front. A lot of getting down to look under. One of the best additions I have made to my rig. Keep up the great work at having us improve our rigs!

I installed this unit on a 2004 Toyota Tundra 2WD SR5 4 door with no issues. I dropped the front skid plate thinking it would be in the way but ended up putting it back on when I realized it was not an issue. The install took about 1.5 hours and would have been quicker had I just left the front skid plate alone. Make sure you have some good 1/2 bits for drilling out those front holes. The 2 rear holes on each side are already there. Make sure you understand how to use the fish wire tool for installing the front bolts on each side. Love the product.

Nick

It is working great. We mainly use it for securing a scooter on camping trips.

by: Thomas 03/14/2024

Fit perfectly. Easy install (2 holes to drill). Longest part of project was fishing the bolts through (need new glasses maybe!).

by: Blake07/15/2022

I ordered a Curt front mount trailer hitch for my Toyota Tundra. The product was shipped as advertised, but when I received it I tried to mount it on my pickup. The holes were far from lining up. I discovered that one of the mounting arms was badly bent (probably warpage from welding) and should have never left the Curt factory. I documented the issue with pictures and sent them to etrailer then spent significant time straightening the warped arm because I had immediate need for the hitch. etrailer refused to go back to Curt about their poor quality and refused to provide the requested discount after I saved them the cost of shipping 2 ways and the hassle of dealing with a defective part. Poor customer service…

Very good construction. Easy to install after I bought a large break over bar to remove the bolts on existing tow hooks. Had to trim the skid plate a little to clear and now requires a box wrench instead of a socket to remove skid plate when doing an oil change. But overall not a bad installation job and I like having this on the truck for the occasional winch operation, front mount spare tire when I have the trailer, or using a cargo carrier on the front.

Fast delivery. Well made hitch. Front mounted to my Tundra so I can place my boat trailer precisely. I also intend to use it for a cargo carrier when towing my camper. Video was helpful when installing it. Overall happy with the product and service.

Snowsport PlowEtrailer.com does it right from start to finish. On top of having a great web site, the staff are the best.
Keeping in mind, I ordered this in December, about 5 days before our first big snow, here in Ohio. Within an hour of ordering my SnowSport HD plow, I was upgraded to special priority shipping, that was a nice surprise! The plow arrived in about two days, in three boxes, as I ordered the front hitch at the same time. I feel bad for my UPS carrier, these boxes were not for the faint of heart. The assembly went smoothly, the manufacturer uses high end parts and everything is well marked and the instructions are easy to follow. I estimate it took me two hours to get everything put together, with a coffee break in between. I am impressed with the construction, wow. Heavy duty is right!
We had four inches of snow yesterday. I opened the garage door and went to work, two pushes to clear the parking spots, and one easy push down the two hundred foot gravel driveway. Like butter.
I was done. It took less then 15 minutes. I put this blade on my 2003 rear wheel drive, not 4x4, Chevy Blazer. I backed into the garage and it looked like I had just put the blade on, this blade could last a long time. I love it. I cant wait until we get a foot or more of snow, my wife wants to plow next time. Plus I have cable chains comming from Etrailer, they should be here any day. Just in case my two wheel drive has tracktion problems in the deeper snow. Thanks a bunch, Etrailer!

2011 Honda Ridgeline

We installed this on our 2011 Honda Ridgeline and a week later it snowed... And snowed.... And snowed.. 5 feet in 24 hours ( we live on the lake near Buffalo) and it's still snowing... This wasn't good, it was AWESOME! It was an easy install and assembly and worked absolutely perfect! We have a tough driveway and this kept it clear with no issues, no problems and we used it all day and night! When you spend that much on something you've never even seen before you can have reservations... It's worth every penny. It's solid ( more than we thought it would be) and does the job with ease. No .. It's good, but...... It's exactly as advertised and etrailer not only had the best price, the communication with my order was exceptional. Now... If only the town could send a plow down my street.....

2011 Nissan Xterra

I had a few hiccups while assembling (over tightening things early, I think) but once I got it together it’s been awesome. Clears easily and efficiently. Have used to clear as much as 14” of snow (that required pushing off to the side more often) but once you get used to the technique this thing is a lifesaver. I can clear a 300’ long driveway in 15 minutes or so for an average 4-5” snowfall.

Very nice hitch. Fits my 2003 Toyota Tundra perfectly. I had someone else install it but could have done so myself very easily. It was not necessary to remove the mud shield under the engine. I bought this in order to be able to move boat trailers, RV's etc. around without having to try to crane my neck around! It takes a lot of the work out of launching a boat and/or getting the RV in that tight spot!

Buy with confidence from etrailer.com!

Mark

It still functions as expected. Ive moved several small trailers and even a 19 RV with it. I havent needed any other accessories for my truck but if/when I do, I know where to get em!

After one year of utilizing my Reece front mount hitch I am yet very well pleased with the equipment. Utilizing it for backing boat and other trailers , especially over longer distances , curving paths and tight places is much safer and easer. And I have routinely used the mount for securing a 12,000 pound winch when on hunting trips. Would highly recommend this mount to anyone for such purposes.

Ford Edge

It does what it's supposed to do, puts the snow from my driveways into piles not on my driveways. Got it over some of the other variations because it doesn't have electronics or wiring to break when its -30.

-Cutting edge that came with mine has been decently strong for running on gravel driveways.
-Light enough I can mount/unmount whenever I need to.
-Doesn't tear up lawns, which is where I have to push most of the snow I move.

--Needs a through eyebolt for quick connect back dragging rather than the ratchet strap idea they sell.
--Side panels are the weak link of the system
they cut in hard and make the plow jumpy while turning
the nubs on the back are also not deep enough to allow the plow to free stand when storing
and as hard as they are they get jammed right up with any sort of twig/leaf debris you might be plowing up
---I'll be replacing these with some sort of steel or aluminum panel with a tubing edge once they start to fail.
-- The sliding parts aren't powder coated so they'll need to be repainted every year or two or its going to rust right out.

Overall though it does what I wanted it to do, and paid for itself by saving me a lot of hours not having to shovel or snowblow. And even if my vehicle were ever to go down I could toss it on the back of another vehicle to get the snow moved.

2014 Honda Pilot

It arrived in about 3 days, in 3 packages. I researched online extensively before choosing the SnowSport HD. Price at etrailer was about 10% cheaper than other sites. I already had the front hitch on my 2014 Honda Pilot, so all I had to do was assemble the plow and go play.

I had watched multiple videos of using and assembling the product, before ordering. All the time shoveling my driveway with a shovel as I had to get in and out and keep the driveway, ice free for visitors.

Everything was in the boxes, not a single bolt or washer missing. Assembly was as simple as I expected. I completed assembly without assistance in about 90 minutes, at a normal pace. Neither my cordless (nor corded) drill would screw the 3/8 self tapping screws to connect the two blade pieces, but it was not difficult to do them with a ratchet.

I set the height correctly for the front hitch, and I have a 6 inch hitch drop/riser that that should give me good plowing with the back hitch (have not tested yet, but expect good results)

The design is very well thought out, it is a quality product that will probably last the rest of my life (home use). I recommend it to others, and I would buy it again.

I ordered the plow as we finished getting about 10 inches of snow over a couple of days. The temperature stayed below freezing and there was still about 6 inches of snow to play in, when I had the plow mounted. Based on some reviews I had concerns that it might not do well, pushing piles of snow, or the snow that had been sitting for days. I was pleasantly surprised to be pushing even snow the city snow plow had mounded in front of the neighbors driveway. I plowed the neighbors from the street and about 80 feet in, without difficulty, three passes in a couple minutes and the job was done.

I live in a 1950s ranch home, with a single car garage (in basement) near Pittsburgh PA, my Honda Pilot fits in the garage with just inches to spare going through the door. The 7 foot blade is just a little narrower than the side view mirrors. So I can drive in and out. I have the blade and mount in the garage, and they are light enough that I can mount the blade front or back while in the warm garage and drive out to plow snow. Pull back in the garage, remove the blade and drive into to town to go to the office for work.

I am so excited to have this plow that, it probably will not snow more then a trace for a couple of years... Fate denying me the opportunity to play with it for a long time.

Ford Transit Connect

The hitch is pretty much as advertised and as expected. Delivery was fast as usual.

One minor issue was that when I tried to install it, the holes in the hitch didn't line up with the ones on the truck chassis, so I called etrailer to find out what was going on.

The representative I spoke with knew exactly what had happened, and as it turned out the hitch "wings" were bent inwards a little, perhaps from the unit having been dropped at some time or another, quite probably in transit.

Rather than return it and wait for a replacement I was able, at the representative's suggestion, to squeeze them apart enough with a bottle jack and a piece of 2 x 4 so they lined up, and all was good after that.

This is the third hitch of one kind or another we've purchased from etrailer. All have been exactly as advertised.

Good products, good prices, efficient shipping and good friendly service. What's not to like?

I could not be more pleased with this front mount hitch. I use this hitch to mount signs and height clearance poles on the front of my Pilot Truck (oversize load escorting). Hitch was easy and straight forward to install.

After some thinking and studying I found etrailer by accident. I was needing a front receiver hitch to carry my jack and bicycles on my truck when I have my camper on. I used the etrailer web page to find the exact part my truck needed, I mean exact. Then they had a video to show me how to do it. After watching the video I was confident I could do. I also had all the tools I needed to install it. From start to finish It took about an hour. I had to trim my skid plate with a angle grinder and a dremel but that was super easy to do. I was amazed that it was so easy, stunned actually. Fishing the bolt through the frame was so easy I laughed as I was doing it! The info help with the videos was the key to my purchase. The fast delivery was the seal on the deal. I am a loyal etrailer customer and I plan to tell my friends. Face book here I come.

I Love love etrailer products and install info!! Got this for my tundra and install went perfectly! I did trim the metal skid plate on both side near the hitch mount so it would be easy to remove with the hitch still in place. watched the video and install went as shown. Complete written instructions and all hardware are included in well packaged box. Thanks again E trailer !!

by: Theodore W03/11/2018

The Curt front hitch arrived yesterday, less than a week after ordering. Installing the hitch was easy. Removing and trimming the skid plate was the hardest part but not bad, my skid plate is steel. I installed hitch by myself, being it’s quite heavy I used a floor jack to lift hitch into position, very easy, just go slow, be very careful until the first bolts are fastened. Also when drilling holes for the third bolt make sure holes are a full half inch to make fishing bolts through them easier. Very satisfied with hitch, makes moving my camper , utility trailer and boat very easy. Should have installed a front hitch years ago, Thanks for another etrailer product.
