I have a recommendation, but the Thule Canyon XT # TH859XT is not my first choice for carrying lumber mainly because of the wind fairing and the size. While the basket can be expanded to 70" long with the extension piece # TH8591XT, that is still not long enough for your lumber, and you'd have to load it at an angle, because of the lip where the wind fairing is at the front.

It looks like there are some videos online of people removing the roof rails from Subaru Crosstreks, but it's not something I recommend doing. The engine bay for your 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is pretty tight but the module of the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 that you referenced are 8" long x 5" wide x 2-1/4" tall. Link size and design do make a pretty big difference and have pros and cons so you'll have to decide what will serve your 2020 Subaru Crosstrek the best.
