Installing a trailer hitch on your 2004 Volvo XC90 is not a huge project by any means. To install a hitch like the Draw Tite hitch that fits your vehicle part # 75152 is relatively very easy. I attached an install video that shows this hitch installed on a 2004 XC90 just like yours for you to check out as well. This will walk you through the whole process. You might watch it now to help give you an idea what the project would look like. Basically it's just removing a tow hook and then raising... view full answer...
You do not have to remove the bumper, but you do have to remove the rear fascia and drill into the frame of your 2019 Volvo XC90 to install the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e53KR.
There are no hitches for your XC90 that you can install without either drilling or removing the bumper or rear fascia. You'll just have to drill a pair of 9/16" holes to install the # e53KR, but if you do not want to do any drilling at all - but are okay with removing the rear bumper temporarily - then I... view full answer...
The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 12-1/4" Long - 10K # AMSC2 can be inverted so the ball sits in the highest location giving you a 3/4 inch rise from the receiver shank, or it can be installed to give you a drop of 2 inches from the receiver shank. I've attached a video to assist.
You will need a hitch ball like # 63845 for a 2 inch diameter or # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter hitch ball. view full answer...
For the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56285 I have linked an installation video for a 2021 Volvo XC90 below. This is currently the newest model XC90 we have been able to install any of the wiring harnesses we carry. If your XC90 is different you will want to consult a service manual for your specific model year which will help you to access the necessary wiring and a suitable grounding point. You may be able to find a pdf version for the service manual on a Volvo forum. view full answer...

I went ahead and reached out to my tech at Curt, and he confirmed that you do in fact need to have the trailer connected to your 2022 Volvo XC90 in order to complete the pairing process of the Curt Echo # C51180 to your phone. This will solve the issue. view full answer...
From the research I did it is possible that on your 2011 Volvo XC90, that the brake output pin located in the 5:00 position, if looking at the 7-Way, is actually connected to a dedicate brake light circuit. In order to install an aftermarket controller, you will need to follow these steps:
First, use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed to verify that there is voltage on that pin when you step on the brakes. If not, then see below for the second installation method.
The wire on the... view full answer...
The CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies for Roller Bunks part # CE10003G-4 are designed to be mounted to the horizontal center sections of the trailer also know as crossmembers. These will not work when mounted to the vertical outside frame rails. The swivels would be in the wrong position and the bunk boards would tilt front to back and not side to side. They are designed to be used with the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailers like part # CE27840. view full answer...
The two available custom fit trailer hitches for your 2016 Volvo XC90 R-Design both require removal and/or modification of some rear components on your vehicle during installation.
I recommend the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch, # C13233 because the installation process is slightly easier as it does not require you to temporarily remove the the bumper like on the Draw-Tite. This hitch has a 2 inch receiver opening with a gross towing weight capacity of 6,000 lbs and a maximum... view full answer...
We don't have any specific recommendations, but any trusted local mechanic should be able to install the Stealth Hitch # SH27FR on your 2020 Volvo XC90 in a couple of hours.

The Tow Ready Custom Vehicle Wiring, # 118411 does not require that the vehicle computer be reprogrammed in order to use it. This is a powered harness that gets power for the trailer lights from the vehicle battery via a power supply at the back of the vehicle (see instructions linked). The connections to the tail lights provide the signals for the trailer.
The harness also has a fuse included and it is this fuse that protects the vehicle electrical system from any shorts on the trailer... view full answer...
The power wire of the Tekonsha trailer wiring harness part # 118683 actually doesn't need to run to a battery. It runs to power cable stud that is in the access panel where the rest of the harness installs in your 2022 Volvo XC90 Recharge so there wouldn't be a need to access a traditional battery. view full answer...
As long as your Volvo XC90 is a 2003 - 2014 model, you will use fit dial number 9 on your Thule Passage Trunk Mounted Bike Carrier, # TH911XT.

The 4-way trailer connector at the rear of your 2016 Volvo XC90 that is installed using the wiring harness # 118683 stores in the trunk of your vehicle when not in use. When you are going to be using it, the harness will out of your trunk. The padding between the trunk lid and the vehicle will protect the wiring from being damaged with the trunk lid closed on it. Storing the connector inside the vehicle helps protect it and keep it clean.

Your trailer lights should only have one wire if the light serves only one function (tail light, marker light, stop/turn). The white wire shown in the photo that you attached is a ground wire and will not be connected to the tail light or stop/turn circuits. The bulb attached to your light housing looks like an 1157 bulb, which is a dual filament bulb that has two contacts for two different circuits.
You should have two wires on the back of the light housing, one for the stop/turn circuit... view full answer...
