Curt Echo C51180 Wireless Brake Controller Installation on 2018 Volvo XC90
Question:
I read some of your posts re towing with XC90. Pretty helpful. I am looking for help finding reliable info re setup I need to have for the combo of Caravel and 2018 XC90 T6. Do I need to have wireless braking assist device Curt or 7 pin hook up with allow Volvo car to apply brakes on Airstream when necessary? Do I need weight distribution / anti sway hitch device for a 16 ft trailer? My wife and I really want to go with Airstream Caravel 16 but I stopped short today from signing purchase docs realizing I did not have proper hook ups ie. 7 pin Uhaul installed 4 pin for me and not trusting installing non Volvo wireless braking device... any advice would be appreciated.

The Curt Echo # C51180 would be the easiest installation on your Volvo XC90 hands down. Because you already have the 4 pole trailer connector like # 118683 installed, the only items you'll need are the controller itself and our wireless brake controller install kit, part # ETBC7L.
The install kit includes the adapter to convert your existing 4 pole to a 7-way, as well as all the wire, hardware and circuit breakers needed to complete the installation. Simply mount the 7-way, plug it into the existing 4 pole and run the black wire to the positive battery terminal via the included circuit breaker. The installation is actually very simple.
I've linked to an installation video showing the Curt Echo being installed on a different vehicle. Since the install isn't really vehicle-specific, the video will give you a good idea of what the installation involves.
