The trailer wiring harness I recommend for a 2019 Hyundai Sonata is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56390 which is almost entirely plug-n-play. In regard to installation, the two pigtails plug in behind the taillights, the white wire needs to be grounded, then the black power wire gets run to the battery. In regard to the exact path to take, neither we nor the manufacturer provide instructions for this because it varies so much from install... view full answer...
The Draw-Tite Class I, part # 24965, is a confirmed fit for the 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, provided it is not a plug-in hybrid. I reached out to Draw-Tite and they noted that there are no differences in the installation process between the Hybrid and Standard models.
If you haven't already, and are planning on towing a trailer, you'll likely want the wiring harness for the vehicle, part # HM11143874 and a compatible ball mount, part # 3593 with a 2-inch hitch ball, part # 19258 or a 1-7/8-inch,... view full answer...
I have a replacement option for you, but since Rhode Gear went out of business we unfortunately do not have a video for installing a Rhode Gear Pro Trunk Bike Rack, and I can not confirm that it will fit your vehicle.
If you are unable to get it to fit your 2018 Hyundai Sonata I recommend replacing the rack with the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633 which is confirmed to fit your vehicle, and will allow you to carry 3 bikes weighing up to 35lbs each, but you will be limited to a total... view full answer...
Actually, removing the heat shield when installing the Draw-Tite # 24965 receiver hitch on your 2016 Hyundai Sonata isn't a problem because the hitch itself provides more heat protection than the flimsy sheet metal that the heat shield is constructed of. Removing a portion of or even all the heat shield is a pretty common occurrence when installing a trailer hitch. I've linked the installation video for reference.
I've linked the installation video for the # 24965 for your convenience. view full answer...
The breakers included with the # ETBC7 Brake Controller Installation Kit don't have diodes. If you're worried about unintentional power draw on that 12V trailer accessory feed discharging the vehicle battery, you can install an isolator solenoid like # PK5231201 which will shut down that feed when the vehicle ignition is turned off. The solenoid would install inline on the 12V circuit from the battery, with the center terminal ran to a ignition switched circuit. view full answer...
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" item # C11402 comes with the fishwire and all necessary hardware but not the socket wrench, 10 mm socket, or prybar you will need to complete your install. I have linked the installation instructions. view full answer...

An intermittent trailer brake signal is generally caused by one of two things. The first of which is the easiest to check and will be the ground circuit. You will want to ensure that the ground is securely attached to a bare metal surface on the frame. The other possible cause of this problem could be a corroded trailer connector. You will need to clean inside both of the trailer connectors looking for dirt and debris. Use the Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors part # 11755 before... view full answer...
The heat shield should not have to be trimmed with the Curt hitch. You may need to elongate a mounting slot on the heat shield at most. For a Draw-Tite or Hidden Hitch trailer hitch, heat shield modification is needed and I have included a link to a picture that shows what needs to be trimmed.
If you are talking about the appearance panel, the trimming dimensions for models of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata that have the underbody panel are in the instructions which I have linked for you. I have... view full answer...
The heat shield needs to be removed in order to install the Draw-Tite # DT74MR on your 2020 Hyundai Sonata because it prevents the hitch from being in direct contact with the mounting surface on the underside of the vehicle.
The good news is that the steel the hitch is constructed of will serve the same purpose as the heat shield, which is to isolate the vehicle underbody from the heat generated by the exhaust. In other words, removing the heat shield to install the hitch will not have... view full answer...
Yes, to install the Curt Class-I trailer hitch # C11025 you referenced, you will need to remove the heat shield during installation and modify it when reinstalling.
When pushing the heat shield back into place, you will most likely need to modify or bend it into position to re-install.

To hard wire your 2003 Hyundai Sonata for a 4-Pole trailer connection, you will need the Upgraded Circuit Protected Taillight Converter Hardwire Kit, item # 119178KIT. Start by accessing the back of the vehicle taillights. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993, to test the connections and splice the correct wires to the harness. You will attach the yellow wire to the left side turn/brake wire and the brown wire to the left side taillight wire and attach the ground to a suitable... view full answer...
If you can access the tail light wiring through the opening you are describing then you could perform the isntallation that way. However, you will still need to mount the converter box out of the way and pulling away the lining is the best way to get to the bare metal of the trunk area.

You're exactly correct. Once the # 24965 hitch is installed, it will act as the heat shield protecting the gas tank from the heat given off by the exhaust system. You needn't worry about the portion of the shield that's trimmed away, the hitch is constructed of much heavier and thicker metal than the very thin metal the heat shield is constructed of.
If you'll be using the hitch for light duty towing, you'll need a few other items to complete your towing system. For a trailer wring harness,... view full answer...
We haven't had a chance to install the Draw-Tite Hitch # DT74MR on a 2021 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid as of yet but the heat shield does need to be removed in order to gain access to the mounting holes for the hitch bolts.

Provided that your 2017 Hyundai Sonata is not a plug-in hybrid Curt trailer hitch # C11402 instructions, linked for reference, will be the same for hybrid and non-hybrid models alike. The 2016 and 2017 models may have some differences but they are built on the same platform/chassis.
If you plan on using the hitch for a cargo carrier or bike rack I actually recommend Draw-Tite hitch # 24965 for 2 reasons. First, the Curt hitch requires the use of a stabilization strap # 18050 when using... view full answer...
