Recommendation For Tow Bar Wiring Kit on a 2012 Hyundai Sonata with Manual Transmission
Question:
1. Is there an instalation instruction manual for a do it yourself kind of guy, or is that not recommended ? 2. Do you offer a wiring kit that will work with this 2012 Hundai Sonata manual shift ? THANKS Base plate install & tail light / signal wiring

The Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, part # 521631-1, will only fit the 2012 Hyundai Sonata with 2.4L engine and a manual transmission.
I am including a link to the installation instructions on the # 521631-1 base plate kit for your Sonata. They are very detailed instructions with pictures that will show what is involved in installing the base plates. It should give you a good idea if you will be able to tackle the installation yourself.
There are two choices for a light wiring kit when flat towing your Sonata.
First, is the RoadMaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs, part # RM-155, for your Sonata. This kit will install separate from the towed vehicle wiring and provides stop, turn and tail light functions. I checked with RoadMaster and there is room in the tail light housing to install the bulbs in the # RM-155 kit on your vehicle. You will need to drill a 1 inch hole in the taillight housings on your vehicle to install this kit. Many people choose this option for ease of installation and to eliminate any warranty issues with the vehicle electrical system.
Second, is the RoadMaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154. On your 2012 Sonata with the 3-wire system (separate brake and turn signals) this wiring kit will use the vehicles brake lights to function as both brake and turn signals.
If you want to maintain separate brake and turn signals on your vehicle you will also need to add the Tow Ready Vehicle to Vehicle Taillight Converter, part # 118158, and 2 additional RoadMaster Hy-Power Diodes, part # RM-792. I am including a link to a FAQ page on wiring a towed vehicle with separate brake and turn signals.
I am including a video link to the RoadMaster wiring kit # RM-154 being installed on a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The vehicle is different but the wiring principle is the same.
