The plastic wire loom that our installer attaches in the install video for the Tekonsha trailer wiring kit part # 118472 is getting attached to the trunk floor. I'd rather recommend you use a stainless steel screw for this instead of a zinc plated one since stainless is better at fighting corrosion. view full answer...
A good roof rack option is a Rhino Rack system. This has part numbers # RRVA150B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK188. This is a low-profile roof rack with aero bars and a t-track mounting system. This also uses a fit kit with hooks custom-fit for your 2014 Ford Flex naked roof.
When roof rack clamps are custom fit for your naked roof, they usually have a set crossbar distance. The Rhino Rack Roof Rack fit kit # DK188 has instructions to be mounted 31-1/2" apart. That wont work with the Curt basket... view full answer...
Yes, I can explain what the tip up brackets are. They are the brackets that are mounted to the top of the trailer frame and that the chains, at the end of the spring bar in a weight distribution system, are attached to. The tip up brackets are lowered, the chains are attached and then the brackets are tipped up, applying pressure to the spring bars, which in turn distributes weight to the trailer and vehicle axles and reduces the tongue weight on the ball mount and trailer hitch. This weight... view full answer...
When a manufacture states that you may not use tire chains on a vehicle in the manual it is for good reason. There is more than likely an important component of the vehicle too close that the chains will come into contact with and do not have the clearance for, whether it is something like the frame or strut, it is just not a good idea.
If you still want to proceed with tire chains then, I have linked all the tire chains that fit your size tire. I would recommend a chain like Thule's... view full answer...

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

I checked with Hollywood Racks and the Hollywood Racks Express 3 Bike Carrier # HRE3 that you referenced has been confirmed to fit your 2014 Ford Flex. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out also.

I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Hitch, # 75679, for your 2014 Ford Flex. This 2 inch hitch receiver will bolt directly to your Flex's frame with no welding required. It has a tongue weight rating of 400 pounds and a maximum gross trailer weight rating of 4000 pounds.
If you are still in the market for a four bicycle rack, the Swagman Original # S64400, is quite popular with our Ford Flex owners. This economical option offers the highest weight capacity at 140 pounds.

I suggest a weight distribution system that has sway control. To choose the correct system you'll need the tongue weight of your loaded and ready to tow trailer added to the amount of gear in the Ford Flex behind its rear axle. A trailer's tongue weight should fall within about 10 to 15 percent of its total weight. The best way to determine your trailer's tongue weight is to use a scale # e99044.
Since your trailer is 3,200 pounds empty and it's presumable that you will be adding to... view full answer...
I can provide you a list of parts needed to flat tow your Ford Flex, utilizing some parts that you already have.
You will need a Roadmaster # RM-524435-5 EZ-5 Base Plate Kit which is a confirmed fit for your Flex and will work with the Roadmaster # RM-422 Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 All Terrain tow bar which you already have.
You will also want the Roadmaster # RM-152-98146-7 Universal wiring kit for towed vehicles as well as the Roadmaster # RM-88400 Brake-Lite Relay Kit for towed vehicles.... view full answer...
I have two trailer wiring harness options for a 2018 Ford Flex without factory tow package, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56343 which has a powered converter or the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118472 which doesn't have a powered converter. The powered converter will provide an extra level of protection for the vehicle's wiring and it will allow for trailers with more lights to be used. It is the better option but for some instances where the trailer is smaller... view full answer...
As long as you have a trailer hitch installed on your 2015 Ford Flex that is rated for use with WD systems you would want to go with the # RP66082.
This system has a tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs and features the only sway control on the market designed to fight sway before it starts.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
Our current hitches, # 13551 and # e95KR are not rated for weight distribution. view full answer...
Thanks for the picture!
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75679 you were looking at will measure 12-3/4" from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver when installed on your 2009 Ford Flex, so it will give you a little more ground clearance as your current hitch measures 12" based on the picture you provided.
The # 13551 you mentioned is only confirmed to fit the 2009-2019 Ford Flex without dual exhaust, so it is not universal.
I included a video of the # 75679 being installed... view full answer...
Yakima is pretty particular about where you install their roof racks on the roofs of vehicles. I cannot safely recommend you install the bars in a different location than what they recommend. This would void the warranty of the rack and would cause it to have an unknown capacity. Part of why they recommend certain areas of the roof for their racks is based on the structural strength of the roof.
Typically with roof racks installed the wind noise created is loud enough that most people... view full answer...
For your 2009 Ford Flex, I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets # D13503. It has built in turbulators to move the fluid and assist with better heat transfer for more efficient cooling.
The position you mentioned is based on the options on your vehicle. Ideally, I recommend the position in front of all you other coolers, but many times the position directly in front of your radiator is the easiest to mount and still very efficient. See attached... view full answer...
For a solution that will give you rim protection, better clearances than cables and will give much better traction you would want the K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K66 for your tire size 255/45/20.
Cables don't have rim protection so they would not be your ideal solution. view full answer...
I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, the length of the Thule Gateway Pro 3 from the lower support to the end of the bike rack is about 23-1/2 inches. This will most likely interfere with the RV trailer handle (especially factoring in overhang for rear bike's pedals). In addition, there are no 3-bike trunk racks that will be less than the 22 inches you need for the clearance of the trailer handle for the jack.
With that being said, I confirmed with my contact at Thule that the Thule... view full answer...
