Is a Trailer Harness with Powered Converter Needed for a 2018 Ford Flex
Question:
Hello, I have a 2018 Flex that does not have the factory tow package. I am looking to order a plug in harness and have seen that some have a powered converter and some do not. Both came up on the recommendations from your sight. Can you tell me why someone may need to go with the powered converter? I tow a 10 year old popup trailer primarily. My 2010 had a factory tow package and didnt seem to have issues with having the popup hooked in. I am unaware if that had a converter built in. Thanks for your time.

I have two trailer wiring harness options for a 2018 Ford Flex without factory tow package, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56343 which has a powered converter or the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118472 which doesn't have a powered converter. The powered converter will provide an extra level of protection for the vehicle's wiring and it will allow for trailers with more lights to be used. It is the better option but for some instances where the trailer is smaller like a pop-up and there are not as many lights you can get away with a unit that doesn't have a powered converter.
