Numerous issues with broken plastic connectors. With the tailgate locked, any moderate force (such as accidentally trying to open it with it still locked) will snap the rod connectors.

Additionally, the actuator failed after 9 months.

I have already removed this and replaced it with the non-powered OEM lock.

Had it installed by a professional, since we’re not handy. Works and looks great, even though the original handle is shiny black and this one is matte black.

The lock control stopped functioning and has to be locked and unlocked manually with the key. Was told at install that could be a possibility. Not ideal, but rather have a tailgate lock than none at all.

So, I got in contact with technical support and they suggest that you check the wire taps upfront where they connect to the lock and unlock motor wires for the doors. [for reference: those wires are red (lock) and yellow (unlock) wires] Those wires are in the small green plug that is located at the bottom front side of the fuse box. If those check out okay, then you will, need to test the actuator. To do this, you will need to unplug the actuator from the rest of the vehicle wiring and then using a standard household 9volt battery, touch the wires of the actuator to the terminals on the battery. If the actuator fires, it is good. If this is the case, then you have to check the wiring coming from the front to the back for a short. If you need more help with this, you can always call our tech line and we can assist you further.

I bought two of these units for my 2019 Honda Ridgelines. The second installation was definitely easier when it came to removing the tailgate trim and the door moldings. I also made some minor modifications...1) The activation lever was binding upon locking. When in the lock position, the spring on the mechanism never fully extended and binding prevented the unit from unlocking. Grinding a notch to allow full motion of the rotating mechanism solved the issue. 2) The long arm that supports the electric motor tends to flex. I used a rubber pad and contact cement to stabilize the motor to limit its movement when closing the tailgate or activating the lock. 3) I used TAP-IT connectors to wire the unit at the "B" pillar for a more secure connection. 4) I installed a single pole single throw switch (SPST) in the parking brake molding. I only use the tailgate lock when I have cargo in the bed to allow ease of access when the truck is locked.

Still working on two vehicles without any problems. Nice to have the tailgate locked when the tonneau cover is closed for extra security.

Installation was straight forward thanks to the related installation video and the lock assembly works flawlessly on the'19 ridgeline.

I really liked the Pop & Lock tailgate remote lock for my 2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition. It worked seamlessly with my remote door lock, until it didn’t. After almost a year before the warranty expired, the tailgate lock failed and wouldn’t unlock my tailgate. I had to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. The rear driver side passenger door also, wouldn’t lock/unlock either. After paying the $165 for labor, which was ridiculously high of course, I found out the the tailgate remote lock had blown a simple $2 fuse for the remote door lock, and the actuator was malfunctioning. So, I had the pain staking task of disassembling all of the hardware of the tailgate lock and wiring myself so, I could return it for a new replacement. I only had a mere two weeks left until the warranty expired, otherwise I would been left with just trash. I went ahead and ordered a manual lock and key set for the tailgate from another online store, so in case of another break down of the new tailgate lock, I could just open it with the manual key. Another thing worth noting is the fact that after several attempts by email and voicemails, the Pop & Lock customer service/tech support never returned my failed attempts to reach them!! Fortunately, the etrailer staff were gracious enough to honor my replacement request in order to get a new one. Thank you etrailer staff for coming through on your word.

This is the second one I put in my Honda Ridgeline. This one includes a manual lock and key. Easy install. The first popandlock lasted almost 4 years. I had to get into the bed to remove the back of the tailgate to unlock it and remove the popandlock so I could use the tailgate. There was no emergency release.

Pop n Lock has worked great for one-year and counting. Easy to install. Love that I can lock the tail-gate which makes the trunk secure!

I've been wanting a power lock on my Ridgeline since installing a soft cover on the bed. Happy to see that etrailer offered a Pop & Lock model for my vehicle.

While the paper instructions included with the lock leave a lot to be desired, etrailer has a YouTube video of an install that was very helpful for my install. I also consulted other videos and forums that offered a lot of helpful tips and options.

I took a bit of a harder approach than shown in the video to make routing somewhat easier. I removed the inner wheel well cover and routed the cable around the inner well. Then I brought the cable up through the grommets on the frame rail under the left passenger seat. It was easy going after that to route the cable to the fuse box, removing the requisite plastic parts and using an electrical fish tape to pull the cable past the seat wires.

Considering the size of the wires on the fuse block, I found it easier to cut and solder the connectors than use the provided taps.

I did one other mod as well. I didn't like how the plate that the solenoid is mounted to, bounces when you close the gate. So I fabricated a small bracket out of some galvanized pipe strapping and screwed it to the bracket and the metal of the bed. Rock solid now.

Working well so far. Metal parts are equal in quality and gauge as OEM. Time will tell on longevity of solenoid.

It does what it claims to do, but the plastic parts do not hold up to regular use and will fail. Mine lasted 1.5 year before I had to spend 120 bucks for 1hr labor to replace a 5 dollar part (plastic linkage) which will fail again (says mechanic) So it's an ongoing expense. When it broke I waited until my next oil change to fix it so I didn't have to make a special trip for service. The remote lock is not that convenient to make this device a must-have. I would just get a regular Honda lock for the few times I wanted to secure the tailgate and work it manually if I had the benefit of seeing into the future.

2019 Honda Ridgeline

Installed it worked exactly as expected. The instructional video on etrailer website was especially helpful. I took a couple screenshots on my cellphone to compare when mys head was under the dash to verify the correct connection wires were located. My biggets issue after removing the 1st 4 screws was how to loosen the panel to get it off, and it's not the easiest to get all snapped back into place on reassembly.

I'v3 had my Pop & Lock installed for a year now and it has worked flawlessly. It was relatively straight forward to install. I'm quite happy with it!

The lock continues to work well with no problems.

by:

Relatively easy installation. Works well. I would suggest lubricating all moving parts before closing things up. I needed to open the tailgate panel up after about 6 six months to spray a light coat of lithium grease on some parts.

2017 Honda Ridgeline

Works as advertised, easy to follow video. Happy with end product.

by:

Automatic lock is working fine. Could have used a little better installation information. Very nice to have a locked tailgate.

by:

Easy to install. You definitely need to watch the video on how to install. If you run the wire through the lower part of the door you will have just enough wire

by:

This one I ordered to replace the first one. The first one was a dud and failed in less than a year. This one is working fine.
