The electric fan in this assembly is set up to provide additional airflow in harsher environments where there may be a limited amount of natural airflow, such as off-road, rocky areas. Because your vehicle may not need that feature at all times, this kit comes with a thermostatic control to automatically turn the fan off once the transmission fluid reaches the optimum temperature, thus saving power. The control will also switch the fan on again when it becomes necessary, so you can rely on the cooler to do all the work for you.

I assume it's great cause my transmission still runs cool. Only issue I've had is not securing a hose well and my front drive shaft knicked it, causing a leak. My fault not the kit. For the TJ, this is tops. I tow small trailer. Only heats up at idle and never above 225.

How Tight to Torque the AN Fittings of the Derale Remote Cooler Kit D20561
You are referring to the aluminum AN fittings that come with the Derale Cooler part # D20561. These don't have a specific torque figure but you would basically want to get them hand tight but keep in mind they are aluminum so don't use a long wrench and really torque on it. You do not need any sealant as the o-ring provides the seal.

Yes, if you were to run the Derale Direct-Mount Remote Cooler Kit # D20561 as a standalone cooler by bypassing the factory cooler of your 1999 Jeep Wrangler you'd have more than adequate cooling capacity for the transmission fluid. This cooler is much more efficient than the one you have now and even has a fan built into it so you'll get great transmission fluid cooling even when the vehicle is moving slowly.

From what I have found, when wiring your Derale Direct-Mount Remote Cooler Kit for 1987 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler # D20561 the back wire is the hot wire/power wire and the blue wire is the ground. That being said, you won't damage the cooler if these are mixed up. The wiring will only impact the direction of the fan. I recommend using jumper wires to give the fan power to confirm that it is pulling air through the core and out of the back of the fan. If it does not work that way, then you...

Yes, you can certainly replace the hoses to the Derale Direct-Mount Remote Cooler Kit # D20561 with a transmission hose by removing the clamps and using standard worm drive clamps. You can also reuse the fittings on the ends of the hoses as well. I confirmed this with my contact at Derale. We also have replacement hoses that you can find with parts # D15740, # D15700, and # D15799.

Can Derale Direct-Mount Remote Cooler Kit for 1987 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler Be Used as an Engine Cooler
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he said that you can use the remote cooler # D20561 as an engine oil cooler for your Jeep. But you would have to change the fittings from 3/8 to 1/2 inch using # D15712. You would also need a sandwich adapter kit, # D15735. This allows the oil to get to and from the cooler. You would not need 2 of the coolers since the remote cooler has its own fan and provides the optimum cooling. I have linked the instructions that show where the cooler installs...
