Burn-Ban-Compliant Propane Fire Pit

ignik firecan on the ground

On average, wildfires destroy roughly 6 million acres in the United States each year and are responsible for about 20 percent of global carbon emissions. This has made burn bans more prevalent around the country, which limits where you can start a traditional campfire. The Ignik FireCan provides a safe, propane powered solution to this problem.

The FireCan is a portable fire pit that uses propane to create a self-contained campfire. The legs fold out to keep it off the ground and away from dry leaves and grass that could easily catch fire.

The quick-connect stem and included hose make it simple to connect your propane tank. The hose has an adjustment knob that lets you choose the heat and flame output of the fire pit. The FireCan conducts about 38,000 BTUs at its highest setting and will consume roughly a half-gallon of propane every hour.

Fire Rocks Improve the FireCan Experience

The Ignik fire rocks (sold separately) disperse the flames and heat of the FireCan, providing a natural campfire experience. Additionally, they create a barrier to help protect the burners from rain, snow and debris. This barrier also distributes flames to prevent excessive heat around the burners.

Video Transcript for Ignik FireCan Portable Fire Pit Review

Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the fire can. It's gonna be a portable fire pit from Ignik. This is gonna be propane-powered and give you a really quick and easy way to get set up with a fire at the campsite and a really small compact size. Let's check it out.

So right away we probably wanna know how warm is it what's gonna output It's gonna be rated for 38,000 BTUs of output and I'd say it's pretty warm. It's a very cold day today, we got some snow overnight and this morning but about this distance from the fire about like one and a half to two feet, I'm definitely feeling it, it's working pretty well. For such a small size, I am surprised that it's putting out this much heat. For something like solo camping and maybe if I'm going out with my wife, this is perfectly fine for both of us. I'd say if you have like a family of four and you're all trying to gather around this for warmth it may be a little bit difficult.

There's certainly space around here for it but for just those smaller camping situations where you really need a lot of space in your vehicle or your camper, this is gonna work really well. So why do you need a propane fire pit For one, it's gonna be really quick and easy to set up. So on a day like today where it's really cold and I just want the fire now, it's gonna be quick to set up. We got it all done while filming the process in less than five minutes. So doing it on your own without a camera is gonna be a lot quicker.

Not to mention the fact that if your campsite has a burn band, this you can still use it because you can just shut it off by turning that propane tank and just shutting that off so you can go from fire to no fire like that. So this kit's gonna come with a couple things. You've got the fire can itself and you've got the removable lid. You do wanna remove the lid when it's on and in use but once you turn it off you can pop this on and once it's cooled off, this gives you a really great handle to carry it around and transport it. It also comes with a quick connect hose.

It's gonna have a type 1 fitting with an included regulator on the other end to hook up to a propane tank and get it powered on. That regulator's gonna let you control the flame. So right now we've got it on the max, but I can turn that and reduce the power if I want to save some fuel or if I just don't need it on full blast. Just like it's quick to set up it's also quick to tear down. So I'm just gonna go ahead and shut off the fuel right now. The flame will die down. I'm just gonna close off the regulator too, disconnect our hose and then let it cool down for a bit. I'll pop that lid on. One side is gonna have a hooked end and the other side will have a latch. Put that hooked end into the side and secure it down with the latch and I'm just gonna let this sit and cool down for at least 10 minutes or until it's cooled of touch. Once everything's cooled down, the five-foot hose sits inside for easy storage and then that lid will close down and secure and you can fold up the legs in the bottom to make everything a lot more compact. Now with it in this folded state I do wanna get some measurements. So let's break out the tape measure and see what we're working with. Lengthwise here, we're working with right about 12 and a half inches, that's from one handle to the other. For the width, I'm measuring to the end of the fitting which is gonna be seven and three quarters of an inch. And then for the overall height it's gonna be right there at eight and a half inches, maybe a little bit more with that handle compacted down. But overall very small, very condensed and it only weighs 13 pounds. This makes it really easy to just grab it, throw it in the back of your car. You can see it with our 4Runner, it fits perfectly with tons of room to spare. We tested it out in our Teardrop camper earlier this week and that fit in there fine, no issues, so it's really easy to find a place for it. And the fact that it's got that ammo can design, that rectangular shape I think makes it a lot easier to fit into certain places because boxes and rectangles they're a lot easier to pack. And then it sets up in the reverse order of how we took it all apart. Starting with those legs to prop it up and elevate it from the ground. They all pop out, set it down and remove the lid. So we've been using this today with their five-pound propane tank. You can get a 10-pound one from them too. If you wanna learn more about them be sure to check out the full reviews. But these are really great because they're pretty small and they are refillable. Now you could use a standard propane tank with all the parts included, but it takes up a lot of space and these ones even have the option to have a really nice case to keep everything protected and patented so I like that quite a bit and it's made it really easy to use all this today. But again, you can just use a standard tank if that's what you already got. Once the tank and the regulator are lit or open you can light it and I like that it's got that built in port in the side so you don't have to get your hands anywhere close to where the fire's gonna be to get it lit up. You can use any standard lighter to light it or you can get one from Ignik too, that's sold separately. I like their version of it because it does have that adjustable tip to get it right up where it needs to be to light everything up. One other accessory you might consider looking at is the fire rocks. These just go right into the fire can and help diffuse the flames a bit and add a bit of style. But you can use any other rocks or glass that are fire pit approved. One thing with those fire rocks though is that they do kind of block the hole for the lighter so it can be a bit more difficult to reach and light it. You might have to rearrange the rocks just to make sure you still have access through that port or go through the top. Now this certainly isn't the only propane fire pit available. We offer a couple and there's certainly more out there, but a lot of the ones that we saw we're circular. That makes things a lot harder to pack into a vehicle or a camper. They just don't fit well in small spaces or with other gear compared to this rectangular sort of ammo shape. Not to mention the fact that this one I think just has a bit more cool factor. It looks really rugged and it feels really rugged. So if I'm going to be choosing one to have in my campsite I want the one that looks good and it's easy to pack away. We do also offer fire pits that are collapsible for easy storage, but a lot of those are wood burning. So you've gotta worry about clean up with that and you've gotta worry about potential burn bands and it not being safe for those situations because this one is easy on and off. So if I have the choice between one of those I'm gonna go with the one that's easier to use and pack away and I don't have to worry about bringing firewood. And overall, I was really surprised with how well the fire can worked. Like I said, it did put off a really good amount of heat for the size. I think for some camping situations where it's cold weather this would be more than enough for myself and more than enough for my wife and I. Even if we had some friends with us I think we could all huddle around and make use of the extra warmth. The biggest thing for me with the Ignik stuff is the fact that you can kind of build it all out with the whole ecosystem. So you've got their fire can, but you've also got their propane tanks that are all portable. They've got those really nice rugged cases. You can get a bigger size if you need it. You can get the fire rocks so you can build out the whole kit that not only works really well together but it's really easy to pack away cuz of how compact everything is. It's reusable cause you can refill those propane tanks and it's just gonna look really cool at the campsite but be functional still too. Whether you've got a small camper, you're car camping or tent camping, I think that's gonna be a really great addition to the setup. That'll do it for a look at the Ignik Fire Can. Thanks for watching..

  • Thoughts On The Ignik FireCan Portable Propane Fire Pit
It sounds like you are on the right track with your thinking here Mark. The Ignik FireCan Portable Propane Fire Pit # GN24FR really is intended to be used with a propane tank. You are right that it will not work with the regulated propane coming from your vans supply. You may be able to hook the two together but the flame in the fire pit would be weak/intermittent at best. It likely would not work at all. That does still leave the issue of the on/off for the firepit being several feet...

  • Is It Possible To Connect A Firepit With 20lb Tank Connection To My RV Propane supply?
What kind of fire pit do you have? All of the portable fire pits that we deal with, such as the Ignik FireCan Portable Fire Pit # GN24FR are designed to be used with a propane tank, and will have a hose with its own regulator. If this is what you have, it will not work with the already regulated propane coming from your RV, and there is no way to safely bring the two together. The only option would be to carry a separate propane tank which can be attached directly to the fire pit.
