Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission cooler, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2005 GMC Yukon
A stacked plate cooler like the part # D13402 will be more efficient than your current cooler but your best option is to install the cooler after your factory one so that you get the efficiency of both coolers to maximize the cooling effect. You'd also want the fitting part # D13035 to make the install easier.

  • Can the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit Be Mounted in Any Direction or Orientation
The inlet and outlet on transmission coolers can be oriented in any direction you like and because the cooler is a flow through device you can use either port as the inlet or outlet, whichever makes the installation easier and uses the least amount of hose. The one thing you want to be sure of, is that the cooler is mounted so that most air flows through it, usually in the same orientation as your radiator. The best installation location is as far forward as possible in front of the radiator,...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2009 Ford F-150 STX 4.6L
We have a few excellent transmission coolers that would be great additions to your 2009 Ford F-150 STX, but they will each be a little larger than your factory cooler and rightfully so since you will be towing a 7,000 lbs trailer. My best recommendation is the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, # D13402. The stacked-plate coolers are the most efficient tranny coolers on out there, so you can rest assured that it will be doing the most to keep your transmission fluid cool when...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2005 Ford F-150 For Offroad and Slow Traffic
For a stacked plate cooler that would work great on your 2005 Ford F-150 check out the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit # D13402. However, you did say you will be offroad and in slow traffic so a cooler with a fan built into it might be your best option. For that the part # D15950 would be ideal. In slow traffic a transmission cooler mounted at the front of a radiator won't get a lot of air flow. But with a kit that has a fan built into it the air flow will be there all the time.

  • Transmission Cooler Availability for a 2013 Lexus RX450H
As long as the transmission on your 2013 Lexus RX450H has external lines that run to the radiator or other cooler the part # D13402 would fit and install. To pick out a cooler you just need to go with the largest one available that will fit the available space in front of your radiator. This cooler measures 13" Wide x 6-7/16" tall x 2" deep.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation For 2013 Ford F-150
When it comes to transmission coolers, you will want to use the largest cooler that will fit in the space in front of the radiator. Of the three styles of transmission coolers, stacked plate coolers are the most efficient. If you have the room, I recommend a cooler like the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler # D13402. This cooler measures 13 inches wide x 6-7/16 inches tall x 2 inches deep. Included in the kit is the necessary hardware to install the cooler. Though it will also...

  • Should a Transmission Cooler Be Used in Very Cold Climates on a 2012 Buick Enclave
The common thought on transmission fluid is that it can not be kept cool enough. With that being said, if you are in an area that sees very cold winters your best bet will be to let your car run for a few minutes to not only warm the motor up but also the transmission fluid. As long as you run the fluid from your factory cooler to the Derale Cooler # D13402 the engine coolant will act to warm up the transmission fluid as it runs through your radiator which will begin to warm up with the...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 1993 Dodge Ram
The Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler # D13402 that you referenced is an excellent choice for a transmission cooler, and as long as you have the room for it in front of your radiator for this cooler then it should work well for you. This is a stacked plate cooler which is one of the most efficient style coolers on the market. The dimensions of this cooler are 13 inches wide, 6-7/16 inches tall and 2 inches deep.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2009 Chevy Impala
A transmission cooler will help prolong the life of any automatic transmission so installing one in your 2009 Chevy Impala would be a great choice. The Derale # D13502 would be a great choice that would work well. These kits are universal so while it may not have parts that are specific to your vehicle the install is basically the same for all vehicles. I attached an install video that shows a cooler installed on a similar Chevy as yours as well.

  • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2017 Lexus RX 350
I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2017 Lexus RX 350 and it didn't mention any requirements when it comes to a larger radiator or transmission cooler for towing. With that being said adding a transmission cooler to help keep temperatures down is never a bad idea. Since your Lexus, even if it came with a towing package, is deigned primarily as a passenger-and-load-carrying vehicle it's going to be working extra hard when pulling a trailer, especially when...

  • Can a Stacked Plate Transmission Cooler be Added to a 2001 Dodge Ram Diesel
Automatic transmission coolers are not vehicle specific so you can install any one that will fit in the available space in the engine compartment. Derale cooler, # D13402, measures 13 inches wide by 6-7/16 inches tall and 2 inches deep. Since transmission fluid cannot be overcooled, it is recommended to add the cooler in line with the factory cooler and not sue it as a replacement. The flow will go from the transmission, to the factory cooler, then to the new cooler, and then back to the...

  • Can a Transmission Cooler be Mounted 4 Inches In Front of Radiator on a 2005 Dodge Dakota
You can mount cooler # D13402 on the rail in front of the radiator on your 2005 Dodge Dakota. Ideally, for the most airflow efficiency for the fan pulling air through you would want it mounted against the radiator if there is space. But mounting it further out should not sacrifice too much of the supplemental cooling when at ideal or lower speeds. You will not need additional fittings to install the cooler on your truck. For a temperature gauge we have # D13009. The temperature sender...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler For 2011 Toyota Tundra With 5.7 Liter Engine For Towing
It never hurts to add a transmission cooler to your vehicle when you are towing a trailer. The biggest concerns when adding a cooler is making sure you have adequate space and choosing the best location when installing a cooler so that you get the best performance. For a transmission cooler that offers the highest performance I recommend a cooler like the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, part # D13402. This cooler measures 13 inches wide x 6-7/16 inches tall x 2 inches deep.

  • How Does Fluid Flow Through the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, # D13402
I spoke with my contact at Derale about the Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, # D13402. He stated that the plates are hollow so essentially, each plate has 1 big hole. Inside each plate there are heat dissipating fins. There are also fins between each plate. Fluid flows into one side and down each internal fin and hollow plate in succession until pressure pushes the fluid across the cooler to the other side and out through the outlet tube. So it is essentially in, down, across, out. The...

  • Is a Heat Sink Frame Rail Transmission Cooler Good Enough for a 1991 Chevy S10
Heat sink coolers like # D13250 are not as efficient as other coolers but they are great at fitting in narrow spaces. We also have # D13402 which is a little smaller and classified as a Class IV. You would also need mount kit # D50020 if you go with the smaller Class IV cooler.
