Can a Transmission Cooler be Mounted 4 Inches In Front of Radiator on a 2005 Dodge Dakota

Question:

I am looking at installing this type of cooler in a 2005 Dakota and mounting the cooler onto a chassis rail that runs across the front of the radiator, about 4inch out from it. Would that be a suitable location or does it need to be installed up close to the radiator to ensure the fan can pull air through the Derale under low speed situations? I like the D13402 as it has a mountain bracket on the bottom that looks like it could bolt right onto the rail. Also can you recommend all the extra fittings I may need to fit this Derale to my truck? It does have the factory tow kit installed. Also looking for a good means of monitoring tranny temperature but I cannot see an easy way to get a temperature probe into the system. What would you recommend?

You can mount cooler # D13402 on the rail in front of the radiator on your 2005 Dodge Dakota. Ideally, for the most airflow efficiency for the fan pulling air through you would want it mounted against the radiator if there is space. But mounting it further out should not sacrifice too much of the supplemental cooling when at ideal or lower speeds.

You will not need additional fittings to install the cooler on your truck.

For a temperature gauge we have # D13009. The temperature sender in the kit can be installed in the transmission pan or on a port on the radiator, manifold, or water outlet.
