P2-Rated Lights
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-Mount Light
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we're taking a look at the Peterson LED trailer clearance or side marker light. This is a low profile LED trailer light that functions as a clearance or side marker light when properly mounted. It has the built in reflex reflector material that removes the need for a separate reflector. It is a LED system. It contains one diode or one LED. LEDs make great replacements for incandescent lights.
LEDs last longer, they burn brighter, they're more efficient. With LEDs, you don't have to worry about replacing bulbs or worry about brittle filaments.We're looking at a nice durable black plastic housing with a red acrylic lens that's compatible with 12 volt DC systems. It's a surface mount installation, mounting hardware not included, has a single wire design for power, and then it grounds through the mounting hardware on this side. It has these little channels cut out so that way you can feed out your wiring and still maintain that flush or surface mount design. It's PT rated, department of Transportation compliant, and made in the USA.Few measurements to go over with you real quick then we'll hook it up to power.
Edge to edge going this direction is three and 15/16 inches. Edge to edge, right here is two and 5/16. Very front to very back is 7/16 and the mount holes are separated on center by three and a half inches.All right, we're going to go and hook it up to power. So here you can see it sends out a nice clear consistent signal. Again, it contains one diode or one LED.
Offers a really nice bright design. And with it lit up and with our overhead lights turned off, you can really see that reflector your material built into the lens, which again removes the need for a separate reflector.That's going to do it for today's look at the Peterson LED trailer clearance or side marker light. Last thing is the power draw at 12.8 volts is 0.01 amps.

- Does Optronics Offer The Marker/Clearance Light # MCL35A32G With a Red Lens? Currently Optronics only offers the Side Marker Light # MCL35A32G with an amber lens. You might consider the Peterson Light # M215R which is very similar in size and design. This light has the red lens and they also offer it in Amber # M215A.
