I ordered this trailer hitch for my 2016 Elantra on Thursday and received it on Monday. This is fast service. I brought it to Midas and was installed on the 7th day after I ordered it. I also ordered the trailer harness. Everything works great. See my picture.

Still works great. Used it only a couple times. I have a small cargo trailer.

This Curt tow hitch is very well made. Even for the price you are getting a quality hitch. It arrived well packaged and on time. I have a 2014 Hyundai Elantra sedan and installation was a breeze (that is if you know what you are doing and have the nessesary tools to do the job) The hitch only has 3 huge bolts, nuts and plates to secure it in place and thats it! On my car though you have to take off and cut a portion of the plastic dust cover on the drivers side to access the rear frame where the bolt and nut is attached. On the passenger side you have to loosen the muffler rubber hangers, take off and cut a portion of the heat shield to access the hole where the bolt and nut goes. All in all it took me about a little over an hour to compete the installation. What I also liked about this hitch is its perfectly placed on my car. Its not sticking out too far. Just perfect! I highly recommend etrailer from now on. Great customer service! Fast free shipping! Now I am waiting for my Swagman G10 hitch bike rack that I also purchased from etrailer!

by:

Works great! I installed it myself in about two hours or so with literally zero experience in doing such things. The instructional video detailed the process very well.
The hitch itself is great. It helped me successfully tow a small 4x6 trailer over 4,000 miles with my Hyundai Elantra.

It's a great product, extremely fast delivery. I will buying more products from etrailer.com. Reasonable prices and very friendly folks over there.

This product is awesome. You can clearly see pride in manufacturing. The photo instructions were very easy to follow. As a do it yourself project, it was very easy and the online video really helped. I have never installed a hitch on a car before and it took me under an hour.

I fully recommend this product!!!

Could not have asked for an easier installation. The video was spot on and was an excellant tool to follow.Everything went as planned.Great job.

Perfect hitch. Had to use the die grinder a little to open up one of the holes to make the bolt reach on the driver side but not a big deal. Also had to put a little padding between the muffler and the passenger side of the hitch because once the exhaust warms up and the pipe stretches the muffler makes contact with the hitch during acceleration and that noise travels loudly through the frame (since the hitch is bolted to that.) Once I got it installed and made the padding addition it is perfect and very happy with the product.

Hello Bryan, Im having the same problem with the muffler hitting the hitch. What did you use as padding? Thanks

Same problem with the rattling, any word on how to fix it?

There are several small modifications that you can make to eliminate the exhaust rattle that you are experiencing. I have included a link to one of our help articles that explain all the details for you.

Product seems to be good so far. Getting it onto the car was another story. Brought it into the mechanic to install. Even though I bought the hitch specifically to fit my car, it had to be manipulated, bent and more to work around the exhaust pipe. Took 1 3/4 hours by someone who had a lift, all the tools, and mechanical knowledge.

Karen

12/14/2020

I felt concerned that I would have problems with the hitch since getting it onto the car had been complicated with many machinations, but it has worked well and I have had no problems with it

by:
2014HyundaiElantra

Serves its intended purpose but on my 2014 Elantra the mounting bracket comes in contact with end of the muffler and makes a horrible noise in the car when at idle, accelerating, or when going over bumps. Short of making/paying for an exhaust/muffler modification I have tried various methods to reduce the noise with limited success.

Occasionally hitches will make contact with a vehicles exhaust system. There are a few ways to fix the rattling issues. Bending the exhaust hanger can allow you to raise or lower the exhaust. If the exhaust hanger is bolted to the vehicle then you can unbolt it and reposition it. Another option is replacing the rubber isolator to a shorter of longer isolator to lower or raise the exhaust. I have attached a link with more detail.

I ordered a hitch for a brand new Elantra, wanting it to haul our two bicycles behind a motorhome. The hitch arrived quickly and the only problem I had was following the directions... and it was entirely my fault. The hitch installed just like the instructions said, but I was trying to make it fit a hole that was already in the frame when the instructions said it might be necessary to drill a new hole. Once I figured that out, the hitch went on without a hitch (pun intended :-) I've ordered three hitches from etrailer, one for a Sonata, a Elantra and a Mazda CX-5. All were quality hitches that work perfectly.

by:
2013 HyundaiElantra

Hey George Installing t plugs in car trunk easy
Hitch a different story
I should have read directions first , did watch video. Video should have included removal of plastic tire shield on drivers side. I had to cut and trim shield so it would fit over hitch sticking out. Had to drop muffler and figure a way to remove from rubber brackets, yes I later read directions, you know us guys don't read directions, we all ready know everything!!! Didn't have to touch heat shield, mounted hitch, rehung muffler. PERFECT FIT MUFFLER NOT RUBBING ANYTHING!!!

by:

I had my mechanic install it as I am getting too old to be crawling under low-slung vehicles It went on even quicker than he estimated. A nice solid piece of steel attaches easily and holds the Hollywood Rack nicely.

by:
2013 HyundaiElantra

the hitch arrived quickly -fit as it should and looks fine under my daughter's elantra...
It was purchased to accommodate a bike carrier and other than when travelling overspeed bumps at the college dorm has performed as expected. The clearance is not the best in the small car BUT that is not the fault of Curt.

by:

The product looks great. The only down side was that the instruction sheet told me to use the rear mounting holes on the hitch for sedan applications. This was in-correct. On the passenger's side, the bracket came into contact with the muffler/resonator before the rear holes would line up, plus the center mount would not line up. Using the front holes everything worked fine. The center mount was slightly (3/8") off center to the right but it still clamped up. The instructions said the kit included a longer screw for the center mount. I received 3 the same length so I had to go to the hardware store for a 2.5" bolt.

I jacked the car up and put jack stands under the axle. I used a step drill to enlarge the 1/4" hole to 1". The right side was a little tough working a round the muffler. I put a wheel/tire with approx 4" of shims under the back of the car to raise the hitch. I hooked up the left side, aligned the right side, and then hooked up the center mount. All told, including jacking up/down was 45 minutes.

Good quality, great installation instructions, competitive pricing. I would recommend etrailer products. It appears that the company went to great lengths to detail the step by step installation on my Hyundai Elantra, including a video. With the hundreds of different makes and models (and the different years), the company must have had a monumental task to document each one of them for which they offer a product.

Excellent product, easy to install, been working great for over a year now.

It was a great experience. I really needed the hitch I purchased fast. I was moving and uhaul didn't have one and said it was back ordered from their vendor. I called etrailer on Thursday and had it deliver by Monday with expedited delivery! Really saved me. And I love the hitch it fits great! Thank you Robert and etrailer.

by:

Good quality and fit. This is a well-made hitch and comes with all the hardware needed for installation. etrailer handled the ordering, packaging and shipping very well. The installation video was also very helpful.

by:
2013 HyundaiElantra

Ok, it arrived quickly, installed easily, and made me happy. That said it doesn't fit properly on my 2013 Hyundai elantra coupe. The clearance between the hitch and the cars muffler doesn't exist and the muffler bangs into the hitch and makes an awful racket. I will be removing it tomorrow and seeing what I can do to get this issue fixed.

by:
2013 HyundaiElantra

So far, the hitch works great. I've only had it on for a week, but it looks good. The video was a great help, very informative, with step-by-step instructions. It only took about 35 minutes to install. Mainly using it for bike carrier.

Every hitch that fits your 2014 Hyundai Elantra Sedan will mount to the vehicle's frame in exactly the same spots, and the similar shape among the three available hitches is a result of each having to clear the same components on the car's underside, such as the exhaust.
