Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2006 Ford Focus

I own a 2006 Ford Focus ZX5 and I use the hitch for my bike rack. The hitch did not lineup with the pre-drilled holes on the frame of my car. As a result, it was difficult to install and the hitch is visibly crooked (not parallel with the car's frame or the ground). The right side of the hitch is too high, leaving an indent on the bottom of my back bumper. Over the past year, the hitch seems to have bent or adjusted to the frame and it is more level than when originally installed. Luckily, this never effected the use of my bike rack. I haven't had any other issues since installation.

It is unusual that the hitch would be crooked when installed. I wanted to see if you could send pictures of where the hitch is bolted to the frame. It is possible that the side brackets were flexed which would have made it more difficult to install.

This transaction was completed unbelievably well. From the website information to the customer reviews to the prompt shipping to the installation of the etrailer hitch. I will recommend etrailer to anyone needing a superior product and wanting to do the installation themselves, and best of all, save money! I needed a light/medium duty hitch for a small car and etrailer came thru with the perfect product. The vehicle is a tow-car (behind a RV) and the hitch will be used to move the car dolly around at camp sites. Thank you, etrailer !!!

Hitch has performed as advertised and continues to be a good purchase. I will continue to recommend etrailer and their products.

This hitch was easy to install on my 2007 three door Ford focus and is working very well.
I attached a two bike rack in it and carry one bicycle 3 to 4 times a week 8 to 10 miles for a bicycle ride in the woods. Once a month I put two bicycles on the back hitch rack and go out of town 150 miles each way. I’ve had zero problems with this hitch and it is still tight and nice!

After year of using this hitch a few times a week with one and sometimes two bikes on it I’ve had zero problems. It’s on my 07 hatchback focus and works great!

Just a note to let you know that the installationof the trailer hitch on my '07 Ford Focus could not have been easier. Using it for light duty hauling with my utility trailer. Easy ordering, fast delivery, simple installation, works as stated. Could only be happier if you came and put it on for me. LOL

what a great package. everything needed for connecting this receiver is in the box. Wiring was included also. The instruction video and sheet are great. about 45 minutes to install.

by:
2002 Ford Focus

The hitch got her fast install was a breeze took me 20 mins didn't have to drill no holes on my 02 focus sedan and the wire to help you get the bolt through the frame was definitely a plus

Relativly understandable instructions.i have the advantage of installing hitches, and having a lift.took me an hour after delivery.very cool and easy.

2007 Ford Focus

Fast shipping, easy installation, highly recommend etrailer! I was most impressed with the supplied fish wire and how easy it was to position a bolt and spacer in a hard to reach spot. Hitch installation took less than 30 minutes. Wiring was easy also...but took a little longer as patience was needed while finding the correct signal/brake wires for the corresponding trailer wires. My trailer was older so I ended up completely re-wiring it with new wires and lights. Overall experience was very positive, no doubt l will buy my next hitch from etrailer.

Used the hitch a dozen times in the last year and so far so good!

2007 Ford Focus

Easy installation and looks nice. The only thing I did not like is I thought it said no holes needed to drill for my 2007 hatchback Ford Focus. Only one hole needs to be drilled, but I didn't have a drill, but I was able to borrow one.

by:
Ford Focus

We received this order very quickly and it was definitely the right hitch for a Focus hatchback. It installed fairly well with ordinary tools but the directions from the manufacturer were somewhat unclear. A few of the spacer and washer parts did not fit as supplied, with one having a hole too small for the bolt to go through and another was too long to be usable. One 1/2" hole needed to be drilled in the car's frame for this hitch to be installed on the ZX5 model hatchback.

Thanks, the hitch continues to work well on the car for holding a bike rack

by:

Fine looking installation. After I gathered the tools, time to completion was just 30 minutes. Very easy, and I appreciated having the wire to pull the bolts included in the kit.

2005 Ford Focus

I bought this with the intention of installing it myself, but I talked with a mechanic just in case. After finding the installation video for my car, it was actually a piece-of-cake to install, it fit perfectly, and it even included special little tools I needed to make the installation easier. I have moderate mechanical ability, but I had no problems.

One year later, I have used this hitch with a utility trailer to haul some wood and brush, and to move my kid in and out of college. The hitch, and the wiring kit I bought with it, have worked fine. I have checked the bolts once or twice, and everything is attached fine.

I would recommend this hitch to friends, and will probably get one for my next car.

by:
2006 Ford Focus

So far, so good.

I got the trailer
hitch installed with pretty minimal effort and I have zero experience attaching anything to the underside of cars. I have yet to actually use the hitch.

About drilling the hole: I have a small drill kit I use around the house for shelves and such. The drill strained slightly to get through the car metal, but was fine. It only took me a couple of minutes all told.

About tightening the nuts: I used a normal socket wrench from a kit at first, but then noticed the torque requirement . So I had to buy a torque wrench and a long socket. Some of the bolts stick out farther than can be accommodated with a short socket.

Things I had to buy for this install:
1. 1/2" drill bit
2. 3/4" long socket
3. torque wrench

This is an excellent product. Fantastic welding and construction. The packaging was also very good and delivered speedily by UPS. Only problem, not for my vehicle. Oops. But, I talked to Customer Service, Jonathan, and the revised product should be here Monday (this is Thursday). I'm happy with the company and the assistance they gave me.

All the pieces came quicker than I thought. They actually shipped them July 4th (Sat) morning. i got them the following Tue. I wasn't able to get to putting it on until the following Saturday.

The hitch was a little too wide for my tow brackets on the car. I called support and the person I talked to eased my fears about hammering the pieces a little wider to make them fit. I ended up having to use my sledge hammer to get the end of the flange that connects to the frame into the correct position. It was about 3/8" off.

I expect this is due to variance in the vehicles.

The paper instructions that came with the part didn't seem to match. However, the instructional video online was top notch. I would not have even attempted this without the video.

The leader to pull the bolt and block through the frame to the hole, is just brilliant and worked like a charm.

I had one bolt that for some reason would not thread onto the last carriage bolt. I was able to pick up a replacement at the local hardware store no problem.

I was able to use various instruction videos for other body style and years of my vehicle for installing the wiring harness. It actually went pretty smoothly once I figured it out.

I ordered the wrong end cap (2") for my hitch and they automatically sent me the correct one (1 1/4"). Thank you. :)

I am planning on purchasing a second hitch for my other vehicle in a month or so and I would definitely recommend etrailers.com to a friend. In fact I already have. Their price was right, fast on delivery and very helpful, which was important as I do not have a good track record with my vehicle projects.

Thank you
Jeff C.

We purchased a hitch and wiring for the lights. Everything worked just as it was explained. It was the second hitch I bought from etrailer, the first was back in 2005, and both times product and service was excellent. Product was delivered quickly and just as described, if I had any questions they gave me phone # to call. I received an e-mail with links to videos to help with the assembly, and after installed, the wiring and hitch worked just as they were supposed to. I would recommend, and have recommended, etrailer to people I know that were looking for a hitch for their car or truck.

2007 Ford Focus

This is the third hitch that I have bought from etrailer. they always know what you need for your vehicle, have it in stock and ship it quickly, at very good prices ... the first 2 hitches were hidden hitch brand, this one was draw tite. the hidden hitch came with extra hardware (spacers), the draw tite did not, and I had to use some of the hidden hitch spacers to install the draw tite hitch. everything installed easily and quickly. shipping a few extra spacers with the hitch would be nice.

by:
2007 Ford Focus

Ridiculously easy install. I spent more time looking for my 3/4" deep well socket than I did installing the hitch. All told, probably 35 minutes or so, and I was good to go. Added my bike rack and I've been hitting the trails every day. I've made a couple other orders with Etrailer in the past, and they've always shipped quickly and arrived as expected. On my next car, I'll buy the hitch from Etrailer.

It is precisely what it was supposed to be. Instructions were good, all the parts were there. I would have liked to know about the difficulty of installing the one bolt inside the tube up front, but it is installed, and performs its task just fine. The shipping was quick, and the price was well in line.

My car is an SVT, and there is an interference with the duffuser and the hitch. I lnew this going in, however.

"Almost" an easy install. Fishing the forward bolt on the passenger's side was laborious and disheartening. It took about an hour and several missteps before I finally got it done. I did it first since it was clear at the outset that it would be the most difficult. After that it was very straight forward. Did it in my driveway and did not even have to put the car on jack stands.
The wiring access points were total nonsense; they referenced some unknown, possibly non-existent points and that was it, they never explained where these ghost points were. They tried to sell me an expensive wiring adapter which was totally unneeded (all you need is a flat 4-wire trailer connector, the expensive one is for vehicles with separate brake and turn signal bulbs), and the video for its installation refered to another brand of vehicle completely. Absolute rubbish.
Hardware good, wiring bad.

HintMy car, a Ford Focus ZX3 hatch back required one hole drilled. I first mounted the hitch with the other three bolts, and then drilled the hole for the fourth bolt as directed. The problem then was how to remove the burr that extended on the blind side of the car’s frame where I couldn’t reach? Hint 1) I used a medium size Allen wrench, the long end secured in a drill motor. I inserted the small end into the hole by tilting it and proceeded to free spin it on high speed in side then drew back unto the inside surface with the burr, it removed easily. Hint 2) I used a combination of heavy thread or fish line could be used, and wire to insert the last bolt. First, fish the bent wire with small hook on end through the ½” hole you drilled and back out the access hole, then hook the thread and draw it back through. Second, thread it through the washer block and tie it around the tip of the bolt and trim excess. Third fish the washer through the access hole and using the bent wire position it over the ½” hole, then pull on the thread as you feed the bolt through, while assisting with bent wire. After bolt is extending through pull and rotate it, until the square neck of the carriage bolt aligns with the square hole of the washer and fully extends down. Finally add conical washer and nut and tightened. .

Excellent quality, I HIGHLY SUGGEST actually reading and watching the installation video, I did NOT and attempted to install MY WAY, doing so resulted with much frustration and lost time, I finally got it installed, being very upset with the much work and frustration, I then decided to watch the installation video, and seen what a IDIOT I was. This particular installation REQUIRES the little tidbits ET gives to have a quick non frustrating installation. I >>DO<< suggest that much of the printed instructions could be eliminated if there was a picture or diagram of the different nuts and bolts with their I.D. I actually took a picture of the hardware with it all laying on a 8x10 sheet of paper, I would submit but I lost it.

  • My 2 Inch Hitch Adapter Will Not Fit My 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Receiver on 2005 Ford Focus
The item you selected, Draw-Tite Class 1 Sportframe Trailer Hitch, part # 24692 is not compatible with a 2 inch adapter or reducer, part # 80303. Part # 24692, is a Class 1 hitch and is designed to not to work with a 2 inch adapters, because of the weigh capacity of a Class I hitch. • Cargo Carrier and Bag for a 2005 Ford Focus
I have a solution for you, but the cargo carriers that use the Rola TuffBak 59119 are slightly too large for the 2005 Ford Focus' available Class I hitches. Class I hitches can only handle weight to a certain point, and most manufacturers make their hitch receivers with a stop that prevents higher class accessories from being used. You can get similar functionality out of a etrailer Cargo Bag, part # e98990 and an appropriate sized carrier. For a hitch, I recommend Draw-Tite brand...

  • Will a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Fit a 2005 Ford Focus ZX4
For the 2005 model year all Ford Focus sedans were ZX4 and would then either be an S, SE, or SES. If it only has ZX4 on it then it is an S model. Your 2005 model would not have the Street Appearance Package because that was not available until the 2006 model year. If a hitch won't fit there isn't anything that you can safely do to it or the vehicle to make it fit. It can make the hitch unsafe to use. But if you have the regular sedan (ZX4) then this will not be an issue.
