Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Kia Optima

Today we are looking at a 2010 Kia Optima. We are going to install a Curt hitch part number 11351. Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in ing accessories for your new hitch: From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer-most part of the bumper is 4-1/2 inches, and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 9-1/2 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation. 0:18

We are going to need to lower the exhaust. Before I lower the exhaust, I am going to put a safety strap across so we can control how far the exhaust will fall. Now I am going to take some spray lubricant, and spray each one of the exhaust hangers. You can see we have one here at the rear of the muffler, and we will want to go ahead and spray the one here on this exhaust pipe. This will give us a little more working room. Now we can go ahead and remove the exhaust hangers. Before we can put our hitch in place we are going to need to remove this exhaust hanger from the frame, we will remove these two fasteners here. You will see here there are two rubber plugs covering up the manufacturer weld nuts, but before we can remove this plug, and ensure the hitch fits firmly against the frame, we are going to trim back this heat shield. To do that, I am going to go ahead and remove the fasteners of the heat shield so I can trim it out. Now I am going to use a pair of tin snips and cut a notch out to allow for the hitch. 1:50

Alright, now we are ready to go ahead and install the heat shield. We will go ahead and pull the cover off of our weld nut. Before I tighten my heat shield back down, I am just going to raise my hitch into position to make sure we have got it trimmed down enough to get our hitch in place. With my weld nuts exposed on the passenger side, I am going to go ahead and repeat the same process on the driver side to remove the covers. Then we will test fit our hitch before we tighten down the heat shield. Now we are going to go ahead and set up our 1/2 inch carriage bolt and block. This will sit on top of the tow hook. 2:34

Now we can take our hitch, put it into position, and tighten it down with a 1/2 inch flange nut. Alright, with that installed finger-tight, then we can go to our frame rails. We will take our 10mm bolts and our conical tooth washers, with the teeth of the washers facing the hitch, and put the four frame fasteners in place. We will install it finger tight at this time until I get all my fasteners in place. With all of our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. With all of our fasteners torqued to specification, we can go ahead and re-install our exhaust. With our exhaust hangers re-installed we can remove our safety strap and that will complete the install of our Curt hitch part number 11351 on the 2010 Kia Optima.

I admit I get a lot of looks pulling a trailer with a Kia Optima and amazement with the wired light harness you made me as well. It is great to pull my riding mower to help my aged parents home upkeep.

Installation instructions were very clear and pretty accurate.

First off, etrailer.com always has the best prices and quickest shipping.
The product itself is very good quality. The installation time was a bit longer than expected. Getting the 4th bolt into the frame was very time consuming, but finally got it to line up correctly and got it in. Forget about the carriage bolt in the tow loop. There is no way that was going to go in. Luckily for me, I'm not towing anything heavy, only a couple hundred pounds. The hitch looks good on the car, a little low, but it works. I'm happy with it.

Installing the receiver hitch on a 2007 Kia Optima took a little more time than advertised. It took about 1.5 hours to install. The biggest time consumer was getting all the holes lined up and trying to get the carriage bolt through the tow loop and receiver. Another set of arms and eyes would have been helpful. The main problem was the holes in the frame and hitch did not line up. It appeared as though the hitch was about 1/2" too short. Upon closer inspection I found one of the side wings was bent just a little. Possibly dropped during shipping. After this discovery I inserted a small pry bar into the mounting holes to straighten out the side plate. This worked well and all the holes then lined up and the installation took about 20 minutes from that point. The hitch looks great though I haven't had the opportunity to tow the trailer yet.

I'm very pleased with the outcome of my purchases (Curt hitch and Curt Cargo Basket at the best prices) from etrailer.com as well as working with Kelly S. The equipment was delivered sooner than I expected, no damages, and all parts included, no surprises!! Etrailer is a great outfit and Curt makes a great product. Thanks Etrailer.
Best Regards,
Mark

This is an excellent product, although I ran into a couple of snags along the way. My trunk pan was dented in a crowned up fashion making it impossible for the third point attachment of hitch to tow ring. Got out the grinder and ground a hole to drop the carriage bolt through. Covered it with aluminium duct tape, that process turned a 1 hour job into a 4 hour job. Tested it with the trailer and it works great. Once I had torqued the bolts down the trunk resumed its' original shape.

The etralier hitch was specific to my Kia Optima.

From the answering of my call to the office to ordering my hitch was a pleasant and fulfilling buying experience as Crystal S was not only efficient but a pleasure to talk to and to conclude our business. The hitch arrived within the time frame specified by Crystal S and the price of the hitch was the best price quoted to me after I had searched for suppliers on the internet.

Good kudos for etrailer and a big thank you to Crystal S for all her professionalism and support.

My order arrived quite quickly. All parts were included and were high quality. Attaching the receiver hitch to my vehicle was straightforward and fit quite well. It would have installed much quicker had I read the instructions :) I did need tools that I didn't have (torque wrench) and I recommend six point sockets , 3/4 inch and 17 mm. I got impact sockets because the 12 point sockets I had kept slipping off the hex head bolts and the hex nut. I also found the scissors jack that came with my vehicle as an aid to hold the hitch in position while I put in the hardware. Attach the center bolt first and jack the hitch far enough to get the bolt through the center hole in the hitch far enough to engage the 3/4 nut. then start the 4 other bolts and gradually tighten them all.

Installation was simple on 07 Optima, didn't even need to lift the car any for room. Just remove the 2 nuts holding the rear exhaust hanger, pull the frame grommits and use the supplied hardware. Final product doesn't look bad on the car either and works great. I will be getting a higher raised ball mount later but the included one does the job.

Fitting was a little tight but with some persuasion it fitted great. Fitting would have been easier if the plate used with the bolt down to the existing central tow point were a little narrower and fitting instructions more comprehensive. Overall a well made product. Electrical harness was easy to fit and worked well. 2008 KIA Optima.

Easy install, good valueI just purchased this hitch for my 2007 KIA Optima and want to say it was so easy to install by myself in about 30 minutes. It is everything it is said to be. It is a great product and I highly recommend it.

Easy install, fit my 2007 Kia Optima. I’d recommend a 3 1/2 rise to your ball from how low the car sits.

See what our Experts say about this CURT Trailer Hitch

  • Is There a 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver For a 2007 Kia Optima Capable Of Supporting 275lbs?
Currently the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11351 is the only trailer hitch receiver I see which will fit your 2007 Kia Optima still in production. This is only a class I rated receiver which carries a maximum load capacity of 200lbs. The only way you would be able to haul your mobility scooter with your Optima would be by loading it on a small utility trailer. This would require a Ball Mount # C45147 as well as 4-Way Wiring # HM11143935 to be able to tow.
