There may be some slight discrepancy with your jeep. I was able to install 7 of 8 bolts as my driver side rear bolt was threaded vs the videos -(online) - showed blank. Also, I never received the two threaded nuts for the rear 1/2" bolts. I did receive extra parts, nuts, bolts and washers it took me about 3hr after starting the process wrong. With the rectangular spacers it's kinda like the game Jenga. I had songs fine stainless welding wire that I was able to bend like "z" fish sticks and get the plates in order. I think it's variation of the vehicle. I was able to get 7 of the eight bolts in, which will suffice at a grade 8 bolt. My passenger side rear bolt is something smaller than the kit sent. etrailer was nothing but exceptional and expedient

It sounds to me like you received the wrong hardware kit. Customer Service will reach out to you.

Good prduct, it is working as it suppose to. I have it installed on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee.

Jeep

The trailer hitch seems to be very well designed. It uses the holes that are already located in the Jeep's uni-body. On one side, the holes have a nut that you thread the bolt into, but on the other side, you have to drop the plates into the uni-body channel and then feed the carriage bolt through it with a "fish wire" (never used one before last night).

I had to remove the bumper, bumper support (on the non threaded left side) and the trip piece on the rear quarters. Also, on the right hand side with the exhaust, I had to bend the heat shield (between the tail pipe and gas tank) and leave one bolt un-done as the thickness of the hitch displaces too much.

The instructions said that it would take 45 minutes...it took me 4.5 HOURS! I am mechanically inclined too, but this was ridiculous. I have even installed my own lift kit on my Jeep.

Needless to say, I did save $170 over going with a hitch company in town that I had talked to. However, it was still a lot more difficult that it should have been.

I purchased this one because it was made in the USA. Good quality and good product, just hard(er) to install.

Looks good too.

Great fit and super easy installation. The only 'tough' thing about it is threading the bolts through the frame, but with the provided fish wire, it wasn't overly difficult- It just took a little time. A hint- Make sure the square nuts that go inside the frame rails are aligned in the proper way before you insert them into the frame, there is NO room to turn them once they're in there- You have to take them all the way out, turn them, then re-install.

Overall install time was about 40 minutes, most of which was getting the bolts in place. It was easy enough for anyone to do!

Looks great- Like it's supposed to be there.

2001 Jeep Cherokee

Lousy install instructions for those with a skidplate especially. Curt obviously never installed one on a 97 thru 2001 Cherokee. The instructions were a revised copy which makes it just seem like no effort was made "Twice" at least. But it looks nice, Made in USA, functional.

1999 Jeep Cherokee

Great hitch, like the look over square tube. Install was straightforward and easy, took about 30 minutes. Had a few days and already used several times. Feels very solid pulling down the road.

1997 Jeep Cherokee

Product looks great. Arrived in two days to Indiana. Installation was easy except for cleaning out existing threaded frame holes on vehicle. Great experience dealing with eTrailer. I have ordered from them probably 6 different times and have always been happy. The instructions shipped with the hitch showed the frame (threaded holes) rails on the wrong side. I had already watched the video which was correct so that was not an issue. Took about three hours to install because of tapping threaded holes.

The trailer hitch has been tremendous. It has been installed one year and I love it.

I'm a returning customer. Item was in-stock, shipped quickly, exactly as described, installed easily, on-line videos were good, good notifications of shipping/tracking info, part packed well, only way things could have been better was if it was free...haha, but seriously, all of those good comments, and etrailer was still cheaper than other sites too. Totally satisfied.

A year later, my hitch is still glossy and rust free...the utility trailer I bought locally right after installing the hitch, not so much. So they did something right with the coating of the hitch.Im still very happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone.

1998 Jeep Cherokee

Very nice, heavy duty hitch. On my 1998 Jeep Cherokee I found it pretty easy to install after removing the rear bumper. I guess it could be done without removing the rear bumper but would be much more difficult. Removing bumper is fairly easy with a decent set of tools. Also gave an opportunity to clean back there. Fishing the bolts through the frame rail was easier than expected. Extensive hardware package though I wound up replacing other hardware at the same time.

It's a great, simple design, easy to install. It also looks much better than the other blockier/squared-off ones on the market. It has worked flawlessly... as any good hitch should do. A+ product

After putting my brain to work, I got the hitch put on my Jeep in about 1 1/2 hrs. Love the curved shape of this hitch. Built really well!

by:

Great hitch for pulling your buddies out of mud holes. My last hitch ripped in half, this one is much better built and looks much better with the curved design in my opinion

by:

Great looking Hitch. Shipping was quick and on time. Installer was very happy with how quick and easy it was to install. I highly recommend this product.

The hitch is still holding up great. I have used it several times for towing and countless times for a hitch cargo rack and bike rack. Super solid, no signs of the powder coat failing.

The products I received were exactly what I wanted.Karen F. answered all my questions and was very pleasant to work with. She is a great asset to your company. The product fit perfectly. I did have to tap the rusted bolt holes on my jeep which did take a little time but that was the only hold up. The wire harness took ten minutes to install and works perfect. Overall very pleased with everything. Also was told it would take about a week to get but I had it in three days.Nice surprise. Would recommend this company. Great job!

I just purchased this hitch and have it installed. Hitch installed very easily with some help from a friend. Have not had a chance to use yet, but will within a month and do not have any doubt this will perform flawlessly because of the design. Hope to have some photos uploaded very soon. Definetly will recommend this hitch to friends.

by:
2010 Jeep Cherokee

Received my hitch in a timely manner. Easy to install. Only hold up was not a product problem but a problem with existing thread holes on the Jeep Cherokee I was installing the hitch on. Needed to re-tap and thread the holes with a metric thread of M12-1.75. Also watched the online video and the video claimed on set of bolts would be marked 8.8 but that is incorrect the supplied bolts were marked as 10.9.

by:
1997 Jeep Cherokee

The hitch receiver arrived quickly and included enough options for my 1997 Cherokee. The fishwire helped out in getting the bolts and backing plates in place. The deliver box was a bit damaged, but the contents were unharmed.

by:
1997 Jeep Cherokee

Installed this hitch on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country Edition. Almost everything went in without an issue. On the driver side, where no weld nuts are present, part number CM-SP25 had to be ground off on one side approx. an 8th of inch. The bolt would not line up with the existing hole. Everything else was a breeze. Video of the installation was a definite plus. Item was shipped extremely fast and everything arrived without damage. Will buy from again.

by:

The hitch is great. Fit well easy to install works fine. The wiring adapter the same as any other one adapter I've used sucked. rotted out quickly. No longer works

by:

Another textbook transaction with etrailer.com, you guys have yet to fail me!!!! The UPS guy was delivering my hitch as I arrived home. It was installed before dark!!! Looking forward to my next project that I can use you on!!! Until then, keep up tut great work, YOU ROCK!!!

2001 Jeep Cherokee

Great hitch! It fit perfect and even came with extra hardware if something went wrong on the side with the factory nuts. They were too rusty to use so I had to rip out the factory nut tray and feed the Curt bolts though on the passenger side which saved the day! Great product.

The "Curt" class III hitch and T-connect wiring harness arrived quickly to my address and were not difficult to install. Ready, set, Tow!

Although we offer several different hitches for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, I'd recommend the Curt Class III, part # 13160. The hitch has a full 5000 lb towing/500 lb tongue weight (maximum amount of downward pressure that can be applied safely to the hitch) capacity. The hitch is also US made.
