An illustration shows the eleven inch clearance level needed between the ground and B and W Tow and Stow hitch.

Note: To avoid the Tow & Stow hitting steep driveways or curbs, we recommend at least 11" of clearance between the ground and the lowest point of the drop hitch, as seen above.

The B&W Tow & Stow adjustable ball mount lets you tow a variety of trailers with different tongue heights. Having a 1-7/8" ball, a 2" ball and a 2-5/16" ball allows for even more versatility, making this the ultimate go-to ball mount if you own multiple trailers.

Easily Adjusts and Stows

B&W Tow & Stow Ball Mount Operation

To switch the hitch ball, simply remove the pin holding the balls in place and rotate the entire block that the balls are mounted on until the ball you want to use is on top. Then replace the pin to secure the block in place.

Adjusting the height of the ball is just as easy. Remove the pins holding the ball mount platform in place and slide the platform up or down along the shank to the desired position. Once you have found the correct height, reinsert the pins and replace the clips.

When you're not towing, you can flip the ball mount platform around and stow it beneath your hitch so that you won't bang your shins. Just remove the pins to slide the ball platform down along the channel and up the back side so that the hitch balls face towards your vehicle. Then replace the pins.

Built-In Anti-Theft System

The Tow & Stow ball mount features a channel that runs along both sides of the shank. This channel not only allows you to slide the ball mount platform up and down to adjust the ball height, but it also prevents removal of the platform when the ball mount is installed, which will help prevent theft of your trailer.

Single Dimensions

A slot is cut into the adjustment channel near the top of the shank. To remove the ball mount platform from the shank you will need to remove the entire ball mount from your hitch. Then remove the pins that hold the platform in place. Flip the platform around to the stowed position on the rear of the shank, and then slide it up until the center pin lines up with the slot in the shank. Pull the platform out towards the rear of the shank until the pin pops out of the adjustment channel.

When the Tow & Stow is secured in your hitch receiver, you will not be able to remove the ball mount platform. This is because the slot in the shank is positioned in such a way that the collar on your hitch will block the pin on the platform from being able to leave the channel. Even if the pins holding the ball mount platform in place are removed, the platform will still be confined to this channel. So, as long as a hitch lock is used to secure the entire ball mount in your hitch receiver, and a coupler lock is used to prevent your trailer's coupler from being disengaged from the ball, your trailer will be secure.

Video Transcript for B and W Ball Mounts - Adjustable Ball Mount - BWTS10047C Review

Today we will be reviewing part number BWTS10047C. This is the B&W Tow and Stow 3 ball mount. It is designed to fit 2" by 2" trailer hitches. It is rated at 10,000 pounds. It has a really nice chrome finish on it. The ball mount with the built-in hitch ball is going to get you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank simply just slides into the receiver tube of your hitch and then the balls are going to provide good traction points for your trailer coupler.

You can see here that it does have 2 different pin hole locations that are there for your convenience. For our application today we will be using the pin hole that is farthest away from our mounting block. You will also need a hitch pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock. Those items are sold separately. You can refer to the ball mount's product page under related items to view those or go to our web site and type in part number Pc3 and it will refer you to the 5/8" pin and clip that I am using today. One of the best features about this system is that it has a stowable design that lets you store your ball and mounting platform underneath your vehicle.

To take advantage of that, you need to make sure that you do have the flat side facing the ground, like it already is. Then we can remove the 2 pins here on the back, allows it to pivot. Then we can rotate it under, adjust it as needed and then we can reinsert our pins and we will secure it with the clips on the other side. This is going to give you that nice flush flat look at the back of your vehicle. It's also going to increase safety as you maneuver around the rear of your vehicle.

So we can go ahead and bring this back out. Another neat feature is that this system is fully adjustable so you can adjust it up and down and not in platform to fit a wide variety of towing applications. Once we have the desired height set, we just reinsert the pins and secure it with the clips on the other side. So the adjustable height is going to let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. This does have 3 different size hitch balls. It's going to let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes. To switch between the different size balls, we can just remove the pin and clip and then we can rotate these as needed to best suit our towing application.

Once we have the desired hitch ball fixed, we can go ahead and then reinsert the pin and secure with a clip on the other side. This system has dual process chrome plating on the shank and the hitch balls that's going to help provide excellent rust resistance. The pins are made from stainless steel so that helps create sturdy rust proof traction points. The durable steel construction with the high-yield tubing is also going to offer superior strength. Once again, it is designed to work with 2" by 2" trailer hitch receivers. The different size hitch balls that we have is we have a 1-7/8" ball, a 2" ball, and a 2-5/16" ball. They all provide different towing weight capacities, so the 1-7/8" ball is going to have 3500 pounds of gross towing weight, 2" ball is going to be 7500 pounds, and the 2-5/16" ball is going to be 10,000 pounds. A couple of different measurements that I would like to go over with you right quick. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball is going to give us a measurement . I'm measuring from the pin hole that is farthest back on the shank that's inside the receiver tube. So measuring that distance is going to be about 10-1/2" and then if we we're going to switch the pin to the closest point, that measurement is going to decrease to 9-1/4". The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the pin holes in the mounting block, again from the farthest out pin hole, is going to give us a measurement of about 5" and then from the closest pin hole, that measurement is going to decrease to 3-3/4". With it installed in the lowest position, if we measure from the inside top of the receiver tube to the ball platform, it is going to give us a maximum drop of 3". You can see the holes here on our adjustable shank. These holes measure center to center 1", so it will adjust in increments of 1". You can also flip this over to the rise position. If you do that, you just need to remove the pin and clip so you can pick whatever hitch ball you need to use for your application and if we measure from the inside top of the receiver tube to the top of the ball platform, it is going to give us a maximum rise of 3-1/2". You will notice that there are 2 different pin holes here. When you have the hitch ball mount in this location, you use the rear pin hole. When you rotate it, you simply line it up with the other pin hole so it just kind of varies back and forth, depending on which mount you are using. That's going to do it for today's review of part number BWTS10047C. This is the B & W Tow and Stow 3 ball mount, rated at 10,000 pounds. .

I purchased this hitch for my 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 which has the multiple tailgate. The hitch was in the stow position but still damaged my tailgate when I had the tailgate fully down and used the step feature. it bent the metal and scratched the paint. So please be aware this hitch is not recommended for the 2024 GMC sierra 3500 with multiple tailgate.

by:

I love this hitch. With a locking pin, it stays on my truck all the time. Here’s why:

Height adjustment. This truck was tall when I bought it, so I needed the drop for my trailers to ride level.

3 balls. We have 3 trailers of different sizes and weights, so all 3 balls get used.

And a step! Even when not towing, I use this step to access the bed all the time.

Fits my 3” receiver without an adapter.

Spend the money and you will have no regrets down the road.

by:

Was shipped on time.B&W hitch was fine just missing one pin clip.Box had several holes where pin clip could have fallen out. Looks like it had a rough trip.

I purchased the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 3" Drop, 3-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black and am extremely happy with it. It was $100 cheaper than anywhere else I shopped. Was delivered quickly and was an easy install. I used it to haul a trailer full of wood that I cut up and it got the job done! It is very heavy duty and takes the place of multiple single hitches. It’s nice to have all the options in one.

Multipro tail gate hit

by:

Fits perfect on my 2024 GMC1500 AT4. At the lowest setting and showed it fully clears the multi Pro tailgate when lowered. The receiver hitch has about 10” of clearance from the ground, in rocky off road situations I would want to remove it if not towing.

Bought to pull my boat with my Yukon and needed a drop hitch to level out the trailer. I wanted to buy a quality hitch, and let me tell you the B&W does not disappoint. Well engineered. It’s it heavy but when installed it is pretty easy to adjust height and ball size. Also supporting an American company is a plus!

by:

Gone are the days I need to carry three different hitches with different sized balls on them. Gone are the days when I, or others, walked around the back of my truck and cracked their shin on a protruding trailer hitch. I keep this folded up in front of the drop where it's not going to catch anyone by surprise. When I'm ready to use it, I simply pull two pins out which allows it to drop free and rotate out. I choose the height I need and install the two pins/clips. To rotate the balls, again simply pull the third pin and rotate to desired size. It was more than I wanted to spend at the time but since I'm glad I spent the money.

I wish I would have bought one of these years ago. It would have saved me from buying 4 different height hitch receivers. I have a boat trailer that requires me to mount this hitch upside down to get about 2.5in of rise. On the flip side is my utility trailer that requires a 2 inch drop. The kicker is that when I load the truck down with gear and people or load the utility trailer up really heavy, this hitch allows me to kick the ball up or down a notch to keep the trailer level. Also if you ever rent heavy equipment most of the trailers they use will have 2 5/16 ball, so I just flip the ball and I'm in business. Build quality and finish is excellent. I don't keep the mount on all year long but with some judicious use of grease this thing hasn't shown any rust over the past year of use. I am currently using this on a stock GMC Sierra 1500 and I really could have gone with one size down on the hitch drop/rise, but I figured if I ever bought a 3/4 ton truck or a friend with one ever needed to borrow the hitch it would have enough drop to work with that application as well. As it stands the 5in drop isn't too long to cause clearance issues with a half ton GM truck.

For those of you who are wondering about thieves making off with the ball mount - the design of the tow and stow is such that with all the pins removed and the hitch installed on the vehicle, it is not possible to rotate the ball mount off the receiver. Especially if you mount the receiver using the inner most mounting hole. All that is needed is a locking hitch pin and the whole setup is secure.

I've attached a picture of the hitch installed on a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 for reference.

  • Recommended B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount for 3/4 Rise
The B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount # BWTS10047C that you referenced is actually perfect for your application! The drop and rise measurements mentioned are for the max adjustments. Since there are adjustment holes that go all the way to the top of the shank you will be able to achieve the correct 3/4" rise for your application. It might not be able to get an exact 3/4" rise but it will be close enough for you to tow level. I do recommend adding the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # BX8858 to deter...
