Use your towed car's signal lights without tapping into its wiring. This self-contained wiring kit bypasses your Nissan Frontier's electrical system, eliminating any concerns over violating the manufacturer's warranty.

Today, on this 2008 Nissan Frontier, we're going to show you part number RM-155. This is the Roadmaster tail light wiring kit with bulbs. First off, you get the main wire harness that gets ran from the back of the vehicle all the way up towards the front. Your bulb and sockets right here that get installed into the tail lights, a length of loom material to help protect the wires or hide the colors of the wires when they're exposed to the outside. Some butt connectors to make your wire connections. Also, a ring terminal here for your ground.
This also comes with a little cord that goes between your car and your RV if it uses a 4-pole flat and some zip ties as well. Okay Now chances are, you'll probably need some more zip ties than it comes with the kit. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how we install it. All right, our first step is to go ahead and lower our tail gate and remove tail lights. We'll start off on the driver's side. We'll need a 10 mm socket to remove these 2 screws.
Okay, now, there's a couple of snaps in the back here that we can pull straight back and pop them loose. Now, we'll go ahead and disconnect the wiring. What I'm going to do is actually take out the whole bulb and socket itself. Set this to the side for now. Repeat the same process over on the passenger's side.
This is our bulb and sockets we get installed right here. We're going to drill out a hole using a 1-inch hole saw, and we'll install the socket and put it into place. First off, I'm going to drill a 1/4-inch pilot hole. We'll follow that up with the 1-inch hole saw. Make sure you get out as much of the debris as possible. We'll go ahead and take a small screwdriver and pry out these little tabs right here.
Not too much, but just enough to bend them up a little bit. We'll go all the way around. We'll bring our light back into place. Go ahead and take our bulb and socket; push it in. It's going to be a snug fit. Then we'll push in the socket. You may have to adjust some of the tabs a little bit, but you do want a little bit of a tight fit. Then we'll go around the openings with some silicone sealant to help protect it. All right, now, the sealant we're using is part number LT37467. We'll let that sit for now, and repeat the same process over on our other tail light. Now, let's go ahead and get our wire harness ready to go. In this case, we have two 4-pole ends. We only need one, so we're just going to cut off one end. We're going to start off on our passenger's side. We'll only need 3 wires. In this case, we won't need the yellow wire. That's for left turn signal, so we're just going to cut that one short. Now, we'll just go ahead and start hooking up our wires to our light here. Peel my wires back quite a bit because I actually need a little bit extra length of white wire for our ground. We won't need these two wires, so put those out of the way, but we'll need our white wire. Now, our white wire is going to go for ground, so I'm going to strip these 2 wires back, and I'll put them together using a single butt connector. Now, with the other end of this wire here, we're going to add the ring terminal. All right, let's go ahead and hook up our wires to the bulb and socket we previously installed. Our white wire's going to go to ground, of course, which will be black on the bulb and socket. Since I'm using a larger butt connector, I'll go ahead and fold it over, give it a little more to grip on. We'll attach it. Now, our brown wire's going to be a running light circuit, so we'll end up using a smaller butt connector, one of the blue ones, to connect these two together, so we're going brown-to-brown. All right, next up will be our green wire for our turn signal and brakes. That'll go to the red wire. To recap, we have our white wire going to ground, which is black on the bulb and socket. Brown-to-brown; green-to-red. At this point, we can go ahead and take our 4-pole end . We're going to drop that down behind in the pocket where the tail light goes and run this down to the ground for now. Let's take a moment to wrap up some of our connections with some electrical tape to help give them a little added protection. Now, we'll go ahead and take our white wire with the ring terminal and ground it to the bed. Now, I'm using a self-tapping screw that does not come with the kit. Let's take a moment to reinstall our light bulbs into the housing. Put it all back into place. We can go ahead and reinstall the screws. Okay, now we're going to move underneath the truck now, and we're going to take our 4-pole wire harness and route it over to the other tail light. I'm just going to follow up over the frame here and just follow some existing wiring going across. We'll zip tie wherever it's convenient. We'll also go ahead and take a length of wire, and we'll run this back up to our tail light on the other side. We'll bring up our wire harness. We'll go ahead and tie it off to keep it from falling back down. Make sure you have enough wire pulled up, and we'll go ahead and route it out to our tail light. Once again, we're only going to need 3 of 4. This time, we won't need the green one, but we're not going to cut it. Let's go ahead and work with our white wire first. Again, I'm going to cut this in half and connect it to our black wire. For our brown wire, we need to do the same thing, so our power signal will come in from the RV through here to power this light, as well as the light on the other side. Now, our yellow wire, we'll go ahead and cut that one in half. Make sure you know which end of the wire harness goes toward the front or towards the RV. We'll connect these two together using the small butt connector. All right, we'll go ahead, to recap, we've go our white wire for ground from the RV will go into this wire for ground, double back out to the other side for ground as well. Same thing. Now, running light circuit, brown goes into this butt connector. It goes back down to the other side as well and powers this light. Our yellow wire, for left turn signal and brake will go to our red wire. Okay, we'll go ahead and bundle these guys up, and we can go ahead and put our tail light back into place. Next, we'll go ahead and run our 4-pole wire up to the front. When we do that, we will make sure we stay away from anything moving like suspension components or anything hot like the exhaust. Basically, we just followed our wire harness along the frame, going over top . It's kind of hard to work around here, so we went around the body mount on this side. Then we stayed on top of a frame from there on out. Stayed as far away as we can from our exhaust, and we zip tied to the line up here to help hold it up and out of the way. Now, if we actually push it far enough up in the engine compartment, we can actually reach in and pull it up. Once we're in the engine compartment, we'll go ahead and route it, once again, staying away from anything moving components or anything hot. In this case, we're going to run up underneath the steering shaft, come out underneath the brake lines right here and the reservoir, work our way underneath the air box, and we'll go ahead and route this back down towards the front of our truck by the license plate on the driver's side. Down towards the bottom, there's an opening. You can also sometimes reach through the top and grab it as well. To help hide the color of the wires, let's go ahead and use some loom material. We'll go ahead and attach it to a pre-existing bracket on the vehicle. At this point, we can go ahead and try it out. Typically, you go up to the back of your RV and plug it in. Don't hook up a tow bar or anything like that. We want to verify the ground from the RV is being transmitted through the wire harness and, of course, the rest of the signals. We're using a separate power supply here, and we'll go ahead and try it out. First, we take a look at the running light circuit. Then right turn, and now left turn. Now, we have turn signals. We also know that's the same thing as our brake signals, so we know that's good as well. With that, that'll finish it for our install of the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with bulbs, part number RM-155 on our 2008 Nissan Frontier.

This was a good option for our 2020 Chevy Equinox because it does not tie into the tow vehicle electrical system and runs directly from the Motorhome electrical system.
Put this into a 2002 Jeep Liberty. Good directions. Drilled out the lower part of tail light housing and install bulb sockets into it. You may have to deburr the tail light housing a bit and manipulate the tangs on the bulb socket but is fine. I put in 1157 LED bulbs :) Good stuff!
This product was easy to install but it took some time routing the wiring harness from the front bumper to the rear. Pick up some extra zip ties, you will need several. The lighting system is independent allowing for the use of LED bulbs. Great product.

Found this item was wired with the brake lights for the brown wires and turn/running lights for colored wires and this fact kept me from getting this done very rapidly. Once identified, went together really nicely and actually grounded to frame for higher light output. I upgraded 3 wire into 2 wire converter with "Roadmaster Brite-lite 3 to 2 Wiring Converter" and they are as bright as the lights already in the housing. Except for that wiring issue, it would have been excellent. As to performance after install, great. Customer service was nice from Roadmaster as well. Did receive a call back message from etrailer a couple days later.
I purchased a Blue Ox base plate, Air Force One braking system, and a light kit for my 2013 Durango. I could have not asked for an easier process with selecting and ordering, also the tutorials and videos were a great help in determining what was the best system for me . Everything arrived as planned and in great condition. This is not my first time using etrailer.com and my prior experience was equally good.

After using the items I reviewed, about 6,000 miles, I am more than satisfied. The towing setup is easy to hook up and unhook and the braking system is second to none. All of the installation was completed by myself and a friend, both of us have a technical background him more than me and we found the videos of the installation extremely helpful.Thank you for following up and providing excellent products as well as support services.

I like this product and would definitely buy it again. I like not having to splice into the vehicle wiring and install diodes, etc. It is a clean installation with good instructions. All I have to do to hook up the lights is raise the hood of the towed car and pull out the pigtail and hook it to the motorhome. It is powered by the motorhome and does not run down the battery in the towed car. Great product.

The kit kit comes with more parts and wire than I needed and was simple to install on my 2010 JK.

This kit really simplifies wiring tail lights on a vehicle that will be towed. No cutting into the vehicle's wiring and adding isolation diodes. Very functional and easy to install.

Kit was of good quality components. I would recommend about twice a much protective wire wrap along with extra of the smaller butt connectors. Fortunitely I had what I needed on hand. I also used a larger ring terminal.

Works great. 2002 Jeep Wrangler tail lights have plenty of room for the extra tail light bulbs.
Good instructions. Everything need is included for 4flat connections. One bulb socket arrived with the ground (black) wire loose in the bag. The solder joint had failed. Resoldered but had to remove the other wires and rubber insert from the bulb socket to avoid melting. Not a shining example for Roadmaster.

Great product, not a bad install and works great. I chose to cut off both 4 flat connectors and I installed a 4 round connector with spring cover on the front of my CRV. Looks and work out great.

Nice to not have to splice into vehicle wiring harness. Separate bulb assembly in existing tail light housing works great for towing our "TOAD" behind motor home.

A very clever idea for an easy, neat, simple installation to safely operate tail lights on a towed vehicle. We installed this kit on our 2017 Chevy Sonic and it works great.

I really didn't want to install a separate bulb kit but our Equinox light was not compatible with our motor home. I was also installing a trailer lighting harness for the Equinox at the same time and doing them together made a lot of sense. I found this kit to be easy to manage and that drilling into the rear light housings not nearly as difficult as I had imagined. I would share a picture of the result but fortunately there is nothing to see - everything fit right into the Equinox's rear lamp structure. I compared the original lights with those from the kit driven by the RV and found them to be a great match. I upgraded the kit bulbs to LEDs for greater longevity.
I purchased this wiring kit for use in my 1999 Mazda Miata.
I did not want to cut into the OEM wiring harness, even using the diode method to safeguard the system. I felt that the fully separate wiring harness was more to my way of thinking for getting my car ready to tow.
I did not follow the included instructions that said to run the flat 4 wiring beneath the car, zip tying it along the way free of the exhaust and moving parts. I ran it through the firewall, beneath the dash, under the center console, and under the carpeting back into the trunk area. I then installed the bulb holders as instructed in my OEM Miata taillight fixtures.
I am happy to have all the wiring up and out of the way of potential road hazard damage, as well as the hot and/or moving parts beneath the car.
It works perfectly, and I am glad that I purchased this kit, and also that I decided to install it the way I felt best to do so.
It took much longer my way, but I'll never have to mess with it again.
Watched video and installed with no issues. Great product! Will buy again for future vehicles.
