To flat tow your 1998 Jeep Wrangler, you will first want to install a base plate kit like the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit, # RM-521424-4, for Wranglers with a double tube bumper. It is not recommended to tow the Jeep Wrangler by the bumper alone. The base plate kits bolt to the frame of the Wrangler to provide a more secure attachment point.

If you want to stick with the Tow Ready tow bar, you will want the Roadmaster Base Plate to Tow Ready Tow Bar Adapter, # RM-025. Keep in mind, the Tow Ready tow bar has a maximum speed restriction of 45 mph. If you would like a tow bar without the speed restriction, I recommend looking at the Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020. When using the Tracker tow bar or the Roadmaster to Tow Ready Adapter, the Quick Disconnects, # RM-201, are recommended for the base plate brackets to be removable.

Some additional items you may need, if you do not already have them, to complete your flat towing setup are safety cables, a tail light kit and a supplemental braking system. For safety cables, I recommend the Roadmaster 6,000 lb Safety Cables, # RM-643.

For a tail light kit, you have several options. If you do not plan on towing frequently and would like something that is easy to setup and remove, I recommend the Optronics Magnetic Tow Lights, # TLL21RK. If you will be towing frequently and would like a more permanent solution, I recommend a bulb and socket kit like part # RM-155.

Finally, you may need a supplemental braking system. Most states require a braking system when towing. A system that is easy to setup and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. I have attached FAQ articles on flat towing and flat towing components for you to check out.
