Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch On-Board Air Kit with Compressor Review

What's up, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Bulldog Winch Portable Air Compressor Kit. So what really sets this thing apart Well, it's in a really cool case. That's what I like about it, but we're gonna be able to store air in here. So I already had it hooked up to the battery to pressurize the system. So you can carry this wherever you need to, whether it's here or way down there.

All we gotta do, lay this down, open it up, and look at that. So we're gonna have our power leads just to let it compress up, but you can keep it on if you really wanted to, but this really shines where you can get some air in your tires without having to have power. So for your Overlander guys out there, Jeep guys, if you guys are in a tough spot, it's gonna be great for inflating your tires. And basically, we're at 60 PSI now, and I can air it up with the pressure that's already just in the tank. And we get about two to three PSI just out of that.

But, if you need consistent pressure for whatever you plan on doing. What we can do, we can take our power cables, about nine foot long. So even when it's just down on the ground, we'll have enough to go up to our battery. So this will just give us a, either fill up the tank to prepare for next time, or, this is gonna be great for just consistent air. So hook all that up.

Then, we just have a little switch down here. It's actually a big switch. It's kinda nice, easy to get to, easy to see. So that'll pump up. We have some gauges to look out, which is nice.

And then, we get air out. If you need more than just a couple PSI, there's about 63 right now. And with it running, reaching up to 65, which is what we really want, in a couple seconds. So that's really cool. And you can choose to turn it off or turn it on, if you're tired of that noise, but we did test this thing out, and it does go up from 50 to 60 PSI in our tire in about 16 seconds. I do think this is a cool, nifty little tool to have in your repertoire of tools that you carry with you on the campsite, overlanding or anything like that. I can definitely see these being used a lot for the overlanding type people out there, especially you Jeep guys who have those Beadlock tires, that you're constantly changing pressure. Or if you have an air locking differential, this is gonna be extremely clutch for that 'cause it's so small and compact. You can put it in the back. It's gonna be nice and protected so you can really just toss it around. And it's just super, super convenient to have with you just because a lot of times when you get flats or anything like that, you really don't have power. So you really don't have a compressor and you don't really have a way to go to the gas station and fill up. So this is with you at all times. So here's what you get with the kit. One, you get a cool case. I love the case. It's awesome. And it does have little pockets here for the little tire gauge that you get, right here, which I like that it comes with it just because it's a super clutch tool to have, and it fits in there quite nicely, where there are a lot of other pockets on top that you can put your tools in. So we get a twin head compressor. It's gonna give us about 4.2 CFM, and this isn't gonna require any maintenance, which is nice. Steel braided lines, which is awesome. And the wires go through the switch up on the side of course. Big switch. I actually use these in some of my cars 'cause I like them a lot. So that's always awesome. And it goes down and through to this little regulator. So, basically if you take a look at this gauge, we're maxed out. So this is gonna give us 150 PSI and then the switch is gonna turn off at 150 PSI, but it's gonna turn on when it gets down to 120. So, I'm gonna take the air tool to simulate that airing something up just to let some of that air out of the system. So if you watch, once it gets down to 120, it'll kick on. So it was about 16, 17 seconds to go from 120 all the way up to 150. And if we follow all these lines, we're gonna have it in line fuse in there. It's a nice fuse too. So it's nice that it's mounted up. They have a fuse in there. So, that's just gonna protect your compressor. And also it's going to protect your battery just in case something happens. And then of course, that just goes to the battery cables that go up to your battery. We're looking at the tank, this is a, this is a one gallon tank and it is steel and powder-coated finish. And, it looks pretty good. The welds are really nice. I don't think those are gonna crack. And then if you come on this side of the tank, we're gonna have two different valves, one, this one down here, that's just gonna help you get any of the water that might accumulate inside the tank. And then you have a massive purge valve that lets out a lot of air and that's just gonna be for whenever you just want to get all the air out of the system without having to attach any of your inflators. And now coming to this gauge here, basically what we're gonna be able to do, is this little knob next to it, you can pull it out. So this locks it in, and this is gonna let us turn it. So you can turn it. You can either loosen it. So as of right now, I had it all the way up, which is about a little over one megapascal, which one megapascal is about 145 PSI. So this is gonna be outputting 150 PSI at its max, but we can actually limit that depending on what you're really doing. And as I start to twist this left it'll regulate itself. So you can figure out exactly how much output you want coming out and into whatever kind of fitting that you have on the end of your hose. Another really cool thing about this system is we can take it out of the case and mount it underneath your vehicle if you want it to be there for whatever reason. And it is gonna be waterproof, dustproof and weatherproof. So you don't have to worry about anything rusting away or not working. And half the time, whenever you're mounting this stuff up, usually there's a better place for it to live. Obviously all these little ports are in the right place for, in the case, but we can swap those things around. So we're gonna have two, three ACE, little inlets here, two female MPTs and then every single other one is gonna give us about six different quarter-inch inlets, so we can swap all these around to get the right configuration to fit wherever you really want to put it. All and all, putting everything back is super easy. You know this goes right here. If we have even more room for more stuff, which is awesome. I just love this case. So if you do take this out and then mount it underneath something, this case is extremely nice. Like, I love it. We can put everything in there if we want to, or you can just use it for whatever. I have a bunch of these cases. And I use them for so many different things, just for carrying around some of my equipment, whether it's drones or cameras or anything like that, it all condenses down, locks in, we're ready to go. The case does come with a little dial. And as we tighten this it's just gonna make sure that it's nice and sealed 'cause we do have a rubber seal on the inside lip. And this is a very, very unique feature compared to all the other ones that we have, not any other one comes with a hard Pelican case like this. And it has a nice little seal like that. I just love this case so much, but let's go ahead and compare it to the next tier down of Bulldog Winch, Portable Air Compressors. These two are kind of in the same boat. You know, you have the heavy duty compressor and then you have the one that just has the onboard air tank. So we wanted to see if they're gonna really run tools the way I would want them in my shop. And what we've found is they really don't. So the better of the two is gonna be the OnBoard compressor, the OnBoard tank oppressor. And just even with taking up lug nuts or something like that, it's super, super not enough air, it really doesn't work. So if I come all the way over here, it's not even gonna get the lug nuts off. It's not even gonna move them at all. So it's not like, oh, just wait for the compressor to kick back up. Well, it's just not gonna do it. So not really enough to take off lug nuts, which I wasn't really expecting it to, but this is kind of the more extreme case. So then that brings me to some of my other tools that take a little bit less air to move. So, basically, the lowest of them all is just my little buffer. So like for your wheels and stuff, if you ever wanted to use some of the cutting cream from Griot's garage to clean them up. It will work. But once the PSI kind of goes down, it's not really gonna do the job. And it's kind of the same deal with this on a heavy duty compressor. Turn this one on. The only difference between the two is just this one's just gonna run a little bit more than this one will just because it's just actually pumping and putting out the air, but it really doesn't have a whole lot of oomph to keep this rolling. So I probably won't even be able to use this. They're both pretty loud, so, there's no real difference there, but a good way to kind of give you an idea of how quick we're gonna go through this air, is using this. So I was trying to cut this little board and this is made from metal, but as you can hear it, once it starts to kinda go down on the PSI, it just starts to not really work that well. So moral of the story is, you're not really gonna be able to use many air tools if any, but this would be great just for, you know, just using the air for your airbags on your truck, inflating and deflating your tires, and then of course, just those air lockers for you Jeep guys out there, it will be enough air to kind of lock your differential into place. But between the two, I think they kind of do the same thing. This one's not gonna hold air. So you're always gonna need to have it connected to the battery. But with the other one on this side, you know, I can let it run for a little bit and once it pumps up to where I want it, I can turn it off, disconnect everything, and then I can just simply close this and keep it in the back of my vehicle for whenever I really need it. We went ahead and tested the OnBoard tank version of the air pump. And, it went from 50 PSI to 60 PSI in the tire at 16 seconds, just like the other one. So our heavy duty one's gonna have a CFM of seven on each of the outputs. This one's only gonna have one output. It's gonna have 4.2 CFM, but, you would think you would see a difference between the two when they're inflating. But, I think just because of us having this one gallon to kind of go off of, the 4.2 CFM that's getting pumped into this tank is kind of keeping up with it. So they're pretty even there. Another thing I noticed is one, the air hose is the same length for both of them, both are gonna be about 29 and a half foot long. And then, this one's just gonna have an accordion style. So it's gonna be a little bit cleaner and a little bit easier to wind up than just the straight pipe right here. But, another thing that is kind of important for me is the cables. So the cables on the heavy duty one are a couple feet longer than the OnBoard tank. That's just because you kind of just hook this one up, get the air in there and then you close it up and then bring it on your way. So, both have the cables if you need them. But mainly this one over here, the heavy duty, this is gonna be for your RV guys. You know, where you're always by your vehicle when you need the air. But, if you're an Overlander or if you're a Jeep guy, this is what you really want 'cause you're gonna have enough air in your tank to activate your lockers and your diff. So whenever you need to do that, you can, and with you guys who have those Beadlock tires and are going up and down rocks. A lot of times I adjust my PSI as I'm going on different terrains. So you're gonna have enough to be able to put a couple, maybe about two, three, maybe even four PSI in each of your tires, if you really need to air them up. So, off-road, overlanding, Jeep guy, right here, and then you just have any type of camper and RV-er for this one. And that'll do it for a look at the Bulldog Winch OnBoard Air Kit..
