Hi, everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima BaseClip Fit Kit for your Yakima BaseLine FX Roof Rack Kits. Now, this is gonna be the rubber pad and the clamps that actually hold the whole roof rack system in place and make it a custom fit for your various different vehicles. Now, that being said, there's tons of different kits out there on our website for different vehicles, all of those pads are gonna be molded somewhat differently to adapt to different roof shapes, so do plug in your vehicle information into our fit guide and find the right fit kit for you and your vehicle, but it's gonna be a look at the overall system, how it works, and how it functions with the roof rack. So the main two parts of this are gonna be the rubber pad and the clamp, but let's talk about that rubber pad first. It's gonna be custom molded to your vehicle, so you can see really well right here on this lip, it forms around that ridge on the roof and fits snugly into place there to make sure that nothing is moving around and it's fit custom to that area.
Now, the base of that fit kit is what actually clips into the tower here and serves as the connection point between the crossbar roof rack system and your vehicle. That rubber base to it is going to give you the maximum protection and make sure that you're not scratching or scuffing any paint on your roof, and it keeps things nice and sealed up. Now, the stainless steel clip is what also helps to secure it to our roof, that's gonna be the second main component. It's a stainless steel construction and a black powder coat finish, the finish helps it match the whole roof rack system, but it all helps it resists rust and corrosion. Now, the inside of those clips are gonna have a rubber padding, again, so there's no metal on metal contact with our paint or anything, and then you can see here, it's custom fit, hooking inside our door jam, and whenever I close the door, it'll just fit right around there, making sure that it's a nice custom fit.
It attaches up inside the tower right up through here, and it just tightens down, hooking into a slotted opening hole, and then that's what gets it all secured and what helps it join into the tower system. These fit kits come in pairs, one for the passenger's side and one for the driver's side. Now, the reason they do that is because depending on your vehicle, you're probably gonna have a different fit kit for the front and rear. Yakima does a lot of research and development into making sure it's a custom fit for the vehicle, and the one we have it on here today, the Honda Civic, is a perfect example. You can even visually see how much longer the clamp at the back is compared to this clamp up at the front.
So clearly, we're gonna need a different kit for the front end, because there's just less distance for that clamp to travel. So again, plug in your vehicle information to our fit guide, make sure you find the right kits for you, and make sure that you also have the right set for the front and rear. But that's really all there is to it. The BaseClip system is gonna work really well in tandem with that BaseLine roof rack system, and it's really just coming down to making sure you get the right fit for your vehicle, because without that fit kit, you don't have a roof rack. In the past, I have had rails installed on the roof of my pickup trucks, but I find the BaseLine towers to be a better solution, since they don't permanently change the truck. Plus, they are much more solid than SkyLine system on the rails.

Great fit, holds tight to roof.
Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.
I ordered the wrong set up for my car, but the excellent customer service specialist set me up and expedited my roof rack that fit perfectly. I highly recommend calling and speaking with the knowledgeable staff about your needs. I'm super happy with the experience overall!
Was skeptical at first because I needed the posts as well for my 2011 Honda Element. The Honda crossbars were not adequately weight rated and is why I opted for Yakima. Couldn't be happier with my choice as this assembly has served me well throughout the year.
Well packaged and on time
So far so good. Purchased these towers to use on a 2022 GMC Canyon with HD bars that I already had, primarily to carry my canoe. Yakima's fitting instructions worked perfectly and the whole system seems really solid.
The installation was super easy, and despite a long time stuck in shipping the delivery itself was extremely fast, and the package arrived in spotless condition. The manuals were very easy to follow, and the end result is absolutely amazing. They provided a nice, flush finish and hold the racks down tight.
Your notice of schemes was a lot better than the yakima site provided. They did not suggest the scheme you did.
But when the products arrived, the instructions were by yakima. Generally worked as instructed except the tower to tower transverse mounting dimensions needed to be tweaked for a perfect fit.
Item was as described and shipping was fast. Overall very satisfied with trailer. Will definitely order my stuff from them
I have not bought car roof racks for decades--back when there were those very useful rain gutters. So I was shocked with the high prices. But what you get today is much more carefully engineered with a complicated construction. This Yakima version even comes with a manual 3.5 mm hex driver which turns out to be a torque wrench too. You use it 16 times, torquing to its limit, in installing the two cross rails on the four towers. Years ago you installed the towers where you wanted them on the rain gutters and adjusted the cross rails by sight. No more. You must go on line to Yakima. You must get the precisely engineered dimensions for your exact vehicle. You even adjust the towers for the roof slope and any toe-in of the roof line. Pay attention to the precise instructions. The result is very solid. I wish that I had more space between the cross rails. There is room for another 6 or 8 inches given where the door openings on my 2019 Toyota Highlander are spaced. But then the rear base clips would be different and that logistics would add yet more to the price. I am confident that I can secure a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood on the cross rails. And I will find my vehicle in the mall parking lot easier with those good looking rails. While I am happy with the end product, I wish the vendors had given more explanation of the fixed dimensions of today's installations. That would have helped make my on-line shopping less frustrating. Part of the problem is that Yakima and Thule do not provide cross rails for my LE Highlander's existing tower bases. And I could not get 60 inch cross rails on any of the versions that fit my LE's bases.
I want to thank the staff at eTrailer for their outstanding support. After my roof rack order got off to a shaky start the customer service staff stepped in and made it right; 100% RIGHT. I cannot thank them, and eTrailer, enough. Regarding the roof rack itself, I have now installed it and can vouch that the installation was a breeze. All parts fit and the instructions were correct. For the record, this is not my first purchase from eTrailer (I've bought hitch items from them before) and it won't be my last. The 60" CoreBar Crossbars will be much more useful to us than the original 50" bars placed on our shell at the factory. The only issue I had was that there were no instructions with the bars. It took a little while for me to figure out how the old bars came off and how to put the new ones on but I'll consider that a learning experience.

I did a lot of research before purchasing my roof rack. I came across this website and liked the prices, and after much thought, decided to get the Yakima CoreBar crossbars. I have ordered several Yakima rack parts and a front hitch for my '13 Ram truck. The sales staff was very helpful in getting me the correct parts and with timely shipping. Relatively easy to install on my VW Golf (etrailer videos are very helpful) and sooooo useful with my Yakima skybox. Not much road noise, so I can leave the rack on even when I am not using it.

One year later and everything works well. I had a problem early on where the rubber protection for one of the j clips from the base towers came off. Contacted etrailer and they sent me a whole new assembly direct from Yakima. Thanks for the prompt response and service!
Bought as a pkg for my 2017 Golf R with Round Bars since I had a bunch of Yakima bike racks and a canoe gunwale rack for my old Yakima set up. Installation was easy with good instructions. All measurements from the Yakima site appear to be spot on.
