Optronics RVILL40 Series LED RV Interior Light Diagram

Need extra light over your camper kitchen sink for when you do the dishes? Or perhaps you need to upgrade the dim, old lights in your enclosed trailer? This dome light has cool white LEDs that give you brighter light underneath a kitchen cabinet, in a walkway, above a shower stall, or inside a small trailer space. And the sonically sealed housing and lens are waterproof so water won't leak in and damage the LEDs.

Optronics Dome LEDs

LEDs are more energy efficient, last longer, and burn brighter than lights with incandescent bulbs. You won't have to worry about replacing bulbs that have brittle filaments. And because LEDs draw minimal power, the light won't drain your battery, overload your circuits, or produce too much heat.

LED Circuit Board Has Surface-Mount Technology

Unlike other LED lights, this dome light has an LED circuit board with durable, surface-mount technology. This technology will better resist the shock and vibration that happens when you drive over rough roads. And it improves heat distribution, which means that you won't burn your fingers when you need to do maintenance.

Raw Lumens vs. Effective Lumens

Lumens are utilized to measure the actual amount of light that you can see and use from a light source. If you need a super bright light for a workspace, you will want to go with a light that has a higher lumen count. If you want a softer glow in an RV living space, you should go with a light that has a lower lumen count.

Light sources typically have 2 different kinds of lumens: raw and effective. Raw lumens represent the natural amount of light that a manufacturer says their light fixtures can produce. Effective lumens, on the other hand, represent the usable brightness of the entire light assembly, including the drive method or any lenses or reflectors.

Surface-Mount, Bolt-On Installation is Easy

Optronics Dome Light Installed

This surface-mount dome light is incredibly easy to install as an upgrade or direct replacement of your existing light. To access the bolt holes, pull the lens up and away from the housing. Do not use any tools to remove the lens, as it will crack. Then, using hardware (not included), bolt the housing onto the ceiling, wall, or cabinet before re-installing the lens. The light has a 2-wire design that hooks up to ground (white wire) and power (black wire). Once you're finished, you can then turn the lights on and off using the integrated toggle switch on the light's housing. And if you want to be able to control the brightness of the light, you can connect it to an LED-compatible dimmer switch (not included).

Video Transcript for Optronics LED RV Interior Light with Switch Review and Installation

randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Customers are always asking us for solutions for lighting, especially in enclosed trailers like this. There's a lot of great options, although if you have wires running, you could make stuff work. What we've done here is mounted up our Optronics rectangular LED light, puts out about 140 lumens of light so it's not so overpowering when you look at it, it kind of blinds you, but it does provide us a good clear light, kind of a bright, white light, which is pretty common with LEDs.Basically we just run a power wire up from our battery, able to make the connections there and it helps you to get lighting where you need it. As you can see we've got seven LEDs this one side, and an additional seven to give us a total of 14. Then we've also got our cover that's going to diffuse it slightly and help to spread it around a little bit more.

The cover is just going to clip in there, just like that. With new LED lighting technology like what we've got available, I think it's an excellent choice to use LEDs over incandescent. They draw less power, they last a lot longer, we're not going to have to worry about the brittle filaments in there breaking, causing us to have to pop the cover off and replace a bunch of bulbs. And I like the light that they give off, I like that pure, clean, bright light, it really helps in a trailer like this to make it very visible. It's going to be whether you're doing it in an enclosed trailer, in your camper, wherever you need lighting. We do have an on, off switch here, if you we're to run it to constant power and use a different switch source for it, you can just leave your switch on, and then operate it from a remote switch if you choose to.Now, as far as the dimensions go, it's going to be about six and five sixteenths of an inch long, about three and five sixteenths wide, and it will stick up off the mounting surface by about an inch. Now, depending on your application, it's kind of going to depend which of the holes that you use for the installation. We're going on a steel beam that goes across, so we're going to be using this one and this one, but again, pick the one that's going to be right for you.

We'll use our light as a template just to mark our hole locations.I'm going to pre-drill these, since we're going into steel, if you're going into a softer surface you can probably just run the screws right in that way. Now, with using our fine machine screws, they just really don't want to thread into that steel very well, so we're going to switch it out, this is going to be a number eight self tapping screw. Do that in both slots and then we'll be able to get the light installed. Position it with our switch the direction that we want, just get it right into place there. That's going to be nice and secure. Now, depending on your situation it's kind of going to depend on how you're wiring is hooked up.

You can see, we've got a single power wire, that's going to go to our black wire, the white wire is going to go to ground. You may have a white wire there, you may have a ground wire available. If you don't, you can ground it into steel, we're going to use the hole here, that's where our old light was done, so we'll trim that off. Strip it back and we're going to add on a ring terminal. I'm using a blue one so I'm going to go about twice as far.

The pink ring terminal would work as well. Twist the wires together, fold them over, slide on the terminal and then we'll crimp that down.Bring that over and we're going to use a self tapping screw. I don't need quite that length there, always want to have a little bit extra, strip both of those back and we can use a butt connector. This one's just like the ground, I'm going to do it about twice as long as normal and fold it over. Both the ring terminals and the butt connectors are available on our website, if you don't already have them.If you're going to be mounting this outside, let's say under an overhang or something like that, I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors, just to make sure that connection doesn't have any issues with corrosion or anything like that.Get that hooked up, we just tuck these away over the top. Now, you'll want to reconnect your power, just make sure your light's working. Looking in good shape, nice, bright light, should give us plenty of vision inside our trailer. With it installed and working properly, that's going to complete our look at the Optronics rectangular LED light.

A very close replacement for the under cabinet failing fixture on our fifth wheel.

I bought this light to replace a ceiling light in my travel trailer bathroom that wouldn’t switch on any more. This light was easy to install and puts out a decent amount of light. I like the rocker type switch for turning it on. It has worked flawlessly since I installed it about a year ago. I would not hesitate to get another one.

The light is yet to be installed, however it appears to fit well.
Paul has been most helpful in securing the parts we need.
Thanks for even, Fred

Brighter than I thought they would be for 140 lumens and the on-off switch is nice to have at bedside in the R-V.
I removed 2 bulky wall mounted incandescent light fixtures and installed these on both sides of the bed.
I'm happy with them.

Nice light to replace older incandescent camper lights. Covers, just barely, old screw holes of the small single bulb fixtures that are approx. 4x5 inch. I wanted white lens covers and the picture shows white lens although description says clear lens. E trailer has become my first stop for my camper rebuild products- good products, proactive service and delivery on or before projected delivery dates.

After acquiring an old stock trailer that needed a complete refurbishment including wheels, e brakes, bearings, lights, et al, I found etrailer.com. Great customer service with friendly, knowledgeable, sales agents to identify the proper parts; dependable parts delivery; best prices when factoring in free shipping. Made my life a bit easier to deal with a refurb project that like most refurb projects that never seem to end.

I recommend this co, their great n so r products.

by:

Nice light .. price was good .. only thing I would pick about is the switch could be just a bit bigger.. but I know why it's the size it is because its thin so cabnit doors clear in tight spots .. I hope they last .. so far they have taken some voltage wacks .. so they are some what forgiving... the amount of run time for on just battery.. is awesome they ran for almost a week on one charge .. a great improvement over the old filament bulb .. pulse. No heat .. when its a hundred degrees out ..like I want more heat .. just a hit in my view ..

Bought to replace lights in my scamp.
Nice
and bright and toggle switch and led are better than the original lights.
Seem a bit flimsy but hopefully they will last given the minimal use they will get.

by:

I love my new lighting. I installed them immediately. Easy to install. 5 minutes at the most for each light fixture.
Thank you!

by:

Very quick turn around and was delivered days before the estimated delivery date. This is the 2nd order I have placed and both has been a very good experience. They have inventory that I was not able to find from any US vendor.

  • How Do You Remove The Lens Cap On The Optronics 12V LED RV Dome Light?
The cover that is on the Optronics 12V LED RV Dome Light # RVILL40 is just held on by some plastic tabs so to get this off I'd recommend using a small flathead to pry the cover off. I recommend starting at what would be the 12 o'clock position and work your way around clockwise slowly prying up. Also you're going to need to be careful as these are just made of plastic, so too much force could snap them off. You can see the tabs on the light starting at the 0:40 second mark in the attached...

  • Does Optronics LD RV Interior Light part # RVILL40 Have Replaceable Bulb
The Optronics LD RV Interior Light part # RVILL40 does not have a replaceable bulb since it's an LED setup which will last very long. Also, if the bulb was replaceable it would still be more cost effective to replace the entire unit.

  • Recommendation for Low-Profile 12V Light with Lower Lumen Output
I recommend taking a look at the Optronics LED RV Interior Light # RVILL40. This is a low-profile rectangular light that features an effective light output of 140 lumens and a built-in on/off toggle switch for convenient operation. The light itself measures 6-5/16 inches long, 3-15/16 inches wide, and 1 inch tall. It will work very nicely as a reading light in the type of space you described. I have attached a short video review as well so you can see the light in action.

  • Comparing Optronics and Command LED Dome-Style Light Brightness
The Optronics 12V LED RV Dome Light # RVILL40 is rated for the following light output: - Raw Lumens - 290 (Max potential of Lumens) - Effective Lumens - 140 (Lumens at prolonged use) The Low Profile LED Utility Light # 328-007-61W is rated for 204 Lumens so it will initially be less bright but then will be brighter than the Optronics version over the course of time. I recommend this Low Profile LED version to get the best amount of light for your application.
