When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Video Transcript for Review of JR Products RV Doors - 372-2300-120

Today, we're going to take a look at the JR Products 20-inch long gas shock. Now, this gas shock will replace a worn or damaged shock on your RV entry door or storage doors. The extended length on this, and that's measured from the center of the socket to the center of this ball socket. So, if we put a tape measure on that, it's 20 inch for the extended length. The compressed length, if you compress this, is 11.41 inches. Output force on this shock is 120 pounds.

The connection type is a retaining clip on a 10-millimeter ball socket, and I am going to zoom in just to show you how this installs basically. But if you look really close, there's your ball socket, and on top of it, you'll see this retaining clip. So, if you just slide a flat tip screwdriver underneath that retaining clip, pry it up, and that'll release the pressure on that ball socket. Push that onto your 10-millimeter ball and then push the retaining clip back down on top of it and that'll secure it into place. So, very simple installation. It does have a nice black nitride finish to it, but that should do it for the review on the JR Products 20-inch long gas shock..

The selection process was easy to follow. I needed gas struts with a greater lift capacity for our under bed storage due to the addition of a memory foam mattress. I was able to select a strut pair with the proper length and extension from the website. The struts were received quickly and were exactly what I needed. The bed now raises gently and remains elevated.

After a year of use, the struts are working flawlessly. If you are having issues with your under bed storage due to old worn out struts or added weight, I would recommend these units.

This item was not an exact fit but it was very close and it worked. My thanks to Josh for his help and time he spent with me to figure it out. The difficulty was there was no part number or part to use or measure. Josh was working in the blind and lucky for me it worked.

by:

The product was well-made. It does everything I could ever wanted to do two thumbs up.

by:

Haven’t put them on yet but the ones I have changed were very easy with a helper to hold the bin door up

by:

As always - Etrailer came through with just what I needed. Great price and quick shipment. Great staff to work with too!

by:

The exact shock I needed in our RV. I installed a heavier mattress and replaced the 80 lb. original units.

by:

Fit perfectly,good quality

When my package arrived it was beat up and one of the clips on the end of the shock was missing, not what I would give a good report !!

by:

Item was exactly as advertised, easy installation, fits perfectly on our RV door. Our previous gas shock was worn out & would not hold the door open. This product is sturdy & stable. It fixed the issue.

by:

This strut did not fit precisely due to the thickness of the end connectors. They are thicker than the original strut and since the strut has to fit between the bottom of the door and the threshold in the closed position it would not allow the door to close. I found that by exchanging the end connectors with the original strut I was able to install the strut and close the door. The only problem with this solution is that the new strut with the old connectors is slightly longer than the old strut/connector assembly and now allows the door to open slightly farther than before. Our awning arm just barely clears the door when opening and closing so will have to be very careful from now on when extending and retracting the awning. Our motorhome is a Sunseeker 3010ds model in case this is helpful to others ordering this product.

by:

Product is installed but instructions were a bit vague and difficult to implement(related to the removal of previous gas shock bar).

by:

Exactly what I needed for my Kwik Kamp motorcycle trailer! It's nice to share information in our group when we find parts to use for our discontinued campers.

by:

Thanks, now my tool box won't cut my arm off.

by:

product works well, shipping took a little longer than I expected

by:

Very fast delivery! I've ordered from e-trailer several times and service has always been great!

by:

These work great for toolbox lid

by:

The head that attached to the bottom door jamb was way to huge couldn't close the door I was able to switch the one from the old strut the thread size not the same I had to force it on most likely will pull off I ordered the 30 pound for my fifth wheel door if people ask the 20 pound model is the correct size but I chose the 30 pound my mistake

by:

Price is right and product fit and functioned well for my application on a Leer truck topper rear glass door

by:

Works great haven't had any problems with it, would buy again if I ever needed it

  • How to Determine Correct Gas Shock for Trailer Door
We have gas shocks for trailer doors, and I can tell you how to determine the correct one for your trailer, but wouldn't have any way of knowing the exact one you need. To determine the correct one though, all you have to do is measure you shock's retracted and extended length to ensure the correct one. For example, the Gas Shock # 372-2300-120 has a compressed length of 11.41" and an extended length of 20" with a strong 120 lbs of force. The Gas Shock # 372-7145, on the other hand, has...

  • 20 Inch RV Gas Shocks With at Least 100 lbs of Force
Since you mentioned 80 lb shocks being inadequate, I'll go ahead and give you gas shocks with at least 100 lbs of force that are 20 inches long. I don't have any way of knowing what mounting hardware you have, but I can tell you each of these shocks attach to 10mm ball sockets. - 150 lb Force: Gas Shock # 372-2300-150 - 120 lb Force: Gas Shock # 372-2300-120 - 110 lb Force: Gas Shock # 372-7903

  • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Gas Shock for a 2016 Keystone Fuzion 5W
Unfortunately just the VIN number is not going to provide enough information to what replacement shock your Keystone needs. What you'll need to do instead is measure the retracted and extended length of your current door shocks and let us know what that comes out to. For instance, if you measured 20" extended and 11.41" retracted, then the Gas Shock # 372-2300-120 would work.

  • Determining How Much Lift to Get From JR Gas Shocks
You can set a scale under the ramp to get an idea how much lift support you'd want from the shock setup if this is a ramp style door that folds down. We have these shocks from 150 lbs like the # 372-2300-120 all the way down to 20 lbs. I attached a link to a page that has all of the options we carry. If this is a different configuration of a door like one that opens to the side you'd need to check with the trailer manufacturer to determine what you'd need.
