how to measure an rv awning

This manual spring-assisted awning is ideal for campers who like to stay at one campsite for weeks or more at a time. It's designed with unique features that can maximize your RV patio and make it a great space to hang out.

More Awning, More Shade

Solera Destination Manual Retractable Awning

First, the Destination's canopy is extra-large, with a 9'8" projection. This creates more space and more shade for you to enjoy. This is a definite plus for Class A motorhomes, fifth-wheel campers, toy haulers, and RVs with a slide-out under the awning. If you've got a large camper, you want a large awning to match.

Maximize Patio Space

Lippert Destination Center Ground Support Bar

The awning arms can also detach from the side of your RV and stand up vertically to create a large, covered patio. With the arms out of your way and the canopy raised high above your head, you can free up the space and keep a clear path from your RV to your patio. You can even use the patio as a carport.

Set up the included center ground support bar in the middle of the roller tube to add stability when using the awning in this position.

Easy Water Run-Off

Lippert Solera Awnbrella

If you're going to be camped out for awhile, the included Awnbrella tension rods are a great way to support your awning and help it keep its integrity over time. These rods snap in place underneath the canopy and hold the fabric arched and taut. This prevents sagging, billowing in the wind, and damage from pooling rainwater. They will need to be removed before you can roll the awning back up.

Manual Retractable Awning

Lippert Awning Spring-Assisted Operation

The Solera Destination is a wiring-free manual retractable awning. To extend the awning, release the travel locks on each arm, loosen the rafter knobs, and use the pull rod to unlock the roller. Then hook the rod to the pull strap and walk it out until the awning is completely extended. Once it locks into place, tighten the rafter knobs and raise the arms to the desired angle. You won't need to deal with wiring for the installation or use up battery power on your camping trip.

Adjust Arms for Best Shade

Solera Adjustable Pitch Awning

The manual pitch adjustment built into these arms makes it easy to put the awning just where you want it to block out the sun. Simply lift the lever located near the base of each arm and raise or lower the arm to the right angle. Then press the lever back down to lock the arm into place. Fully extended, the arms will be parallel to the ground for maximum protection.

Durable Vinyl Fabric

The durable fabric of this awning holds up to the rigors of the outdoors. It's made of premium 13.5-oz vinyl, an upgrade over the 10-oz fabric used in many awnings. This fabric also features heat-welded seams to prevent leaks and is cold-crack protected to -25 F.

This awning also has the Solera Shield built in to prolong the life of the fabric. When the awning is retracted, this durable, rustproof aluminum cover is all that will be exposed to the elements, serving as a layer of protection for the fabric.

Simple Installation

How to Install RV Awning

An awning rail is required to anchor the fabric of the awning to the RV, and your first step will need to be installing one (LC715216 - sold separately) if you don't already have one on your RV. You will need a minimum of 2-1/2" between the awning rail and the top of the entry door. You'll also need 78" of open space on the RV wall - from the awning rail straight down - so that the wall-mounted brackets for the awning arms can be installed.

The roller tube, which comes with the awning fabric already mounted, attaches to the awning arms. The other side of the fabric slides into the awning rail on the RV. To complete installation, just use the included self-tapping screws to secure the arms to the wall-mounted brackets. Because this awning is rolled out manually, no wiring is required.

Video Transcript for Customer Interaction with the Solera Power Awning

Hello neighbors, it's Brad from etrailer and today we are at Worldwide Technologies Raceway and I'm here with Tyler. He's got an awesome enclosed trailer and dual Solera awning setups. So being out on a racetrack how crucial is having something like this It's big, you know, I mean especially here at Worldwide, I mean, everything's asphalt which we love, you know, working on these cars all day you wanna be on asphalt, but it gets really hot, you know, especially in July and August and summertime and having two awnings that you can just flip a switch they run out and you got shade all day. I mean, it can cool you down to 25 degrees it feels like. And, you know, racing by myself too, having electric awnings, like the Solera where you can just, like I said hit the button and roll 'em out. You're not spending hours, you know, setting stuff up and stuff like that.

It's just, I gotta switch in here for one and a switch in here for the other and they're out and it's shaded and it's cool. I mean, it's a big game changer for what we do. Especially, I mean, we're here seven days this week so having shade, not wearing yourself out's big. You bet. Yeah.

Not having to pack up, you're fold up tent every night and having to store it. Yep. Yeah. The fold up deal, I mean, you know, we did that for years and it's just half the time you just leave them there because they get broke or you know a little bit of wind breaking an arm on 'em and you you just leave 'em sitting where they were and have to spend a hundred bucks the next week. And this fixes all your problems.

Most people think about awnings on an RV or a camper, but Tyler's situation is something we're seeing a lot more these days. In the past few months, we've installed awnings on several enclosed trailers for this very reason. It's hot at the track and you have a lot of downtime between the heats. So not only upgrade and replace awnings on RVs but we've added them to enclosed trailers to provide shade on track days or even construction trailers to make a hot day on the job site a little bit more tolerable. Awesome.

Thank you Tyler. Thank you. An awesome day. At Worldwide Technologies Raceway. We got to meet lots of neighbors whether they be local or around the country right here in etrailer's own backyard in Madison, Illinois. Now it's awesome to see them in their element with their race cars and we're happy to allow them to have the parts and accessories necessary to make sure that they have the best experience while towing their race cars around.

  • Best Awning Recommendation for 16 Foot Long Cargo Trailer
A 12 foot wide powered awning like the # LCV000334919-362241 which comes with everything needed would be a great choice for a 16 foot cargo trailer like you have. The projection of the awning is 9 foot 8 inches too which will give you quite a bit of shade. I attached an install video for more info on this as well.

  • Complete Manual Awning Options For Class A Motorhome
It is possible there is an option for your Coachmen Class A motorhome for a complete manual awning, but it is going to depend on some measurements you need to take as there isn't any one specific awning for any specific RV. To install an awning, for the brackets you will need 78" of space straight down on your motorhome's wall, and these will be at the very edges of the roller tube. There are three widths available: - 16': Solera Destination Manual RV Awning # LCV000334818-334719 -...

  • Recommended Awning and Screen Room for 20 Foot Long Cargo Trailer
The Thule HideAway- Wall Mount Awning # TH490011 and Solera awnings like the 12V XL Power RV Awning - 15' Wide - Extra-Long 9'8" Projection - Black Fade # LCV000334950-362243 are the only two awnings that are compatible with a screen room and they both have specific screen rooms that are compatible. • Is There a Complete Manual Crank Awning Kit That is 16 Feet Wide
There are a pair of manual-crank awning kits that are 16 feet wide, which is what I believe you were asking about.
