GasStop ACME vs POL Graphic

Note: This valve is only meant to be used on Class A and Class C motorhomes that have the POL connection fitting. Please see the graphic above to double check what type of valve you need.

You're headed to the next campsite, and in the chaos of packing up, you forgot to turn off your propane system. While on the road, someone rear ends you, causing a propane line to come loose, and you now run the risk of a fire breaking out on your RV. It's a dreaded situation that no one wants to suffer through.

Unlike EFVs and other built-in limiters that just reduce the flow of gas, GasStop shut-off safety valve immediately and completely shuts off your gas supply when it detects either a major leak in your propane system or major failure of your regulator. This protects both your family and your Class A or Class C motorhome, ensuring that your camping trip remains safe, fun, and worry-free. And while this safety valve will shut off for major leaks such as a large break in the hose, it won't shut off for small leaks that result from your regulator's small housing failure or clogged chambers. This means that your furnace or heater won't go out in the middle of the night while camping in the frigid mountains over a small, less dangerous leak.

Using the Pressure Gauge to Test for Minor Leaks

GasStop Safety Valve Testing for Minor Leaks

The integrated pressure gauge provides a clear and easy way to tell what your propane tanks gas pressure is while the gas is being used. If it's on "high", there's been an increase in gas pressure, most likely due to excessive heat, and you'll have to cool the tank down. If it's on "gas", then you'll know you still have plenty of usable gas left. And if it's on "low", then it's time to switch out your tanks. The gauge is also rotatable, so it can be used from any angle, though it is recommended to keep it no lower than 45 degrees from the sky.

The gauge can also be used to test for minor leaks. Once the GasStop safety valve has been installed and the gas appliances have been turned off, push down on the gauge 4 to 6 times to see what the gas pressure is. If the needle is below the red bar on the gauge, then one or more of the following is the cause: the cylinder valve isn't open, the GasStop safety valve has shut off, you have run out of gas, you haven't pushed the gauge the appropriate number of times, or the temperature is around freezing.

If the needle is above the red bar, note its exact position before turning off the valve on your propane tank. Wait 60 seconds for standard applications and 5 minutes for longer RV gas systems. If the needle is in the same position, you can continue to use your propane system. If the needle dropped during that time, there is a leak somewhere. You shouldn't use your propane system until that leak has been found and repaired.

Simple Installation

This GasStop safety valve is extremely simple to install. Once your propane system and all of your gas appliances have been shut off, tighten the GasStop safety valve onto your propane tank. Then re-attach your regulator and hose (not included) before checking for any leaks in your propane system. To allow the gas to flow, push down on the gauge face 4-6 times.

If your propane setup is in a particularly small or cramped compartment, consider adding a GasGear hose (sold separately). The hose has a 90-degree connection that makes it quick and easy to hook up to your propane tank in tight spaces.

The GasStop worked great for the trailer I owned when I purchased the devices. We were happy to have the extra margin of safety. However, my new rig has a tankless water heater. It seems that the sudden flow of propane triggers the GasStop to shut off the flow of propane. So, I have taken the GasStop off the tanks.

by:

This is a great safety device that not only shuts a fast propane leak down, it can indicate a slow leak in your propane system. This is a bargain considering what your safety is worth!!! It was very easy to install. I had to connect with the GasStop representative regarding an issue I had (my fault) and he was right on the problem and EXTREMELY helpful. I highly recommend this product.

by:

This item did not work for us, when we installed it you could smell the propane in and outside the RV and this is after multiple times of making sure that it was attached properly. We tried it on both tanks. Would not recommend. We would of returned it at that time but we threw out the packing when we received it.

by:

Gives me piece of mind to not worry about a propane leak.

by:

Performs as advertised. Gauge is accurate at showing tank level, able to pressure test system for leaks, plus the safety of automatic shut off in case of a leak. Only drawback is that sometimes on initial startup, especially after a tank change, might have to “pump” the gauge several times until the air is out of the system before appliances will stay lit.

by:

Gives us peace of mind when driving with the propane on for our travel trailer fridge. But.. very hard to get the propane fridge to turn on. I need to disconnect it, start the fridge, then reconnect the gas stop. Then restart the fridge.

by:

Love the safety feature of the GasStop. Allows us to sleep soundly.

by:

These a great and peace of mind as well. Can now see when tank is getting low with gauge and don't have to pick up tank like before. Great product that serves three things, shut off, gauge and safety!

by:

very easy to install. I’m glad I got this because Dallas Shambaugh one of my lines broken automatically shuts off without the trailer Filling up the gas safety first should be on everybody’s mind.

by:

I like the peace of mind that this device provides. In a catastrophic propane line leak, it will shut off the flow at the tank. Very easy to install. I didn't realize that after a lengthy period with the tank off, the system must be primed again by depressing the gage several times. Gage is easy to ready.

by:

It was easy to set up and gave me the relative readings on my two tanks which is what I was after.

by:

The GasStop is well built and easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow and let you know the do’s and don’ts. I like the fact that you can test your systems to make sure you don’t have any leaks and how full or empty your tanks are.
This product will give me piece of mind knowing that we are safe in our 5th wheel

by:

  • Recommended RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve for Campervan
Yes, we two options, the GasStop RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve with a POL Connection, # GS84FR and the GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve with ACME Connection, # GS24FR. Which item you need is dependent on the connection you have to propane tank. This propane shut-off valve automatically turns off the gas supply if a major leak or regulator failure is detected. Please note the product review video linked below.

  • Are Two Propane Emergency Shut-Off Valves Needed for Dual Tank System
Yes, you will want 2 of the GasStop RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve # GS84FR (one for each tank) otherwise you will only be able to shut off 1 tank since these are designed to install directly to the tank. You could technically get by with just one but that means you will need to move the safety valve to the tank that is currently being used.

  • Recommended LP Gauge For A 2024 Fleetwood Flair 33B6 Class A Motorhome
Hey Mark, On-board LP tanks typically have a POL connection so you can install the GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve Gauge - POL Connection # GS84FR between the regulator and tank. This has a gauge so you can get an idea of how much propane you have as well as an automatic shut off feature in the event of a leak. If you press down on the gauge 4-6 times the gauge should give you a fairly accurate reading of the tank so that you can be mindful of when you need a refill.

  • Is The GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Available With A Longer Hose?
The GasStop # GS87FR comes with an 18" hose and this is actually the longest hose they offer in this setup. What you can do instead is use the GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve Gauge - POL Connection # GS84FR, and then get a longer hose separately. As far as hoses that will work with the GasStop and have a 1/4" male inverted flare, we have two lengths available: 5 feet long # 100019-60 12 feet long # 100019-144 The only downside of doing it this way is the pigtail hose will not...

  • Recommended Gas Shut-Off For An Emergency Situation
To prevent a large gas leak in the event of a line burst you would want to install a shut off valve like the GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve # GS24FR or the # GS84FR for a POL connection. This propane shut-off valve automatically turns off the gas supply if a major leak or regulator failure is detected. The pressure gauge lets you easily identify tank capacity and test for minor leaks.

  • Propane Gauge Recommendation for Four 100 lb Propane Tanks
Thanks for reaching out! The tank sensors we have that you can use for your 100 lb propane tanks are the GasStop # GS84FR and the Truma LevelCheck # TR77VR. The GasStop installs inline with your tank hoses so you'll need 4 of them while the Truma LevelCheck is an external sensor that you only need 1 of as you will physically take it over to each tank to check the level on the side of the tank. If you're wanting a system that installs on each tank and gives you all propane levels off of...

  • Is The GasStop RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve Compatible With A 100lb Propane Tank
The GasStop RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve - POL Connection # GS84FR will definitely work on a 100lb propane cylinder. The only issue you could face is the connection fitting. This gauge is designed to attach via a POL fitting (pictured below). Most 100lb RV tanks and your typical 20, 30, and 60lb tanks all use this type of fitting but it's always best to check what you have before purchasing. The male POL fitting of this gauge is going to screw into the connection point on...

  • Will the GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve Stop Fires While Driving
The GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve part # GS84FR will absolutely help to prevent fires as it will stop the accelerant to the fire from continuing to burn when a leak is detected. This will be true whether you are moving or stopped. There is also another option for propane leak detection, the RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector part # RS54FR. This won't stop the gas flow like the valve but it will alert you to a leak so you can take action. It's mostly effective when stationary.
