Open the Vent to Start the Flow

When you are trying to pour highly flammable fuel, the last thing you want is a big spill. The self-venting system on this can is designed to prevent that. It ensures a smooth flow of liquid without the "glug, glug, glug" experience that you get with other cans.

Open Vent to Pour

The vent is located on top of the handle, underneath the yellow trigger, and it must be kept open for liquid to flow from the jugs's spout. To open the vent, simply press down on the back of the trigger so that the front part of the trigger raises up. Because you don't have to tip this jug to pour - just position the flexible spout at the angle you need - it'll be easy to hold the trigger in place. As soon as your reservoir is full, just release the trigger and the flow of liquid will stop.

Fill Up Safely with Special Cap

Safety Cap

When handling a flammable liquid, safety must be a priority. Filling a fuel can seem straightforward, but a little spilled fuel and a spark can have disastrous consequences. SureCan's safety fill cap can prevent potential accidents. When you want to fill your jug at the pump, just pull back the top and stick the nozzle in the hole. Don't worry about forgetting to scew the cap back on and spilling fuel, because the spring-loaded top will snap back in place when you remove the nozzle.

Flame Arrestor

When you stick the nozzle into your jug, you will push past a rubber barrier called the Flame Mitigation Device (FMD) or flame arrestor that is built into the cap. The FMD stops flammable fuel vapors from escaping and prevents flames or sparks from getting inside the can. Such a simple device can really make all the difference when fueling up.

Video Transcript for SureCan 5 Gallon Diesel Gas Can Review

What's up, everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the SureCan diesel canister. It's gonna be a nice way to transport your diesel fuel and not worry about spills or wasting. Let's check it out. The SureCan Canisters work really well. They have the nine-inch nozzle down here that stores there, but the nice thing is, it's at the bottom of the container.

So when you go to fill up your gas tank, you won't have to be doing this, and lifting it and tilting it. You just put this where it needs to be. Lift it up a little bit. Since it's at the bottom, you won't have this a whole lot at all. I also like that when you do use this, you have two safety features.

So you'll pull on this trigger up on the top, and push the lever, and that's gonna release the fuel. And that means you can control the flow, as well. So if you let go, it's gonna stop. So it's gonna be less likely to waste any fuel. To better demonstrate how it works, I didn't want to pour diesel fuel everywhere, so I got the water tank.

We'll bring the nozzle down, and then I'll show you, you push on the trigger here, then the lever, and that's gonna release the water. Then when you let go, it cuts off the flow, so then you don't have to worry about wasting a bunch of fuel, tipping it back and forth. There's also gonna be a safety cap over on this side, so when you go to fill it back up, you can lift this up, put the pump in there to fill it with diesel. And then when you're done, you remove it, and it snaps right back into place. So that's gonna be way better.

So when it does tilt around or you move it, you're not gonna waste any fuel that way. Now it's gonna be a five-gallon tank in total, and be a heavy duty construction, so you don't have to worry about it. If you leave it in the back of the truck or leave it outside or even drop it, it'll still hold up. Now that was a quick look at the SureCan container. I like these brand of containers. I like the safety of being able to shut off the flow when I need to, and not wasting your fuel, even when you're filling it up. And having the nozzle rotate 180 degrees is really helpful for getting to any of those gas cans you need to get to to fill it up. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and hope this helped.

See what our Experts say about this SureCan Gas Can

  • How Quickly Will the SureCan Gas Can Empty or is There a More Lift Friendly Option
There is not a flow rate listed for the SureCan Gas Can # SC78GR, so I cannot say how fast it is going to drain. If the main concern is fatigue from lifting and holding the can up, it has a similar flow as most gas cans you are probably used to using. But the hose design/placement helps to take out some of that strain. You will no longer have to lift the can and tilt it to get the fuel out, it is going to be gravity fed from the bottom. If you want to remove the fatigue factor altogether,...
