Video Transcript for Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter Installation - 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Hey guys, Kevin here at etrailer. And today we'll be showing you how to install the Reese Fifth Wheel Adapter, here on our 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty. So, if you recently upgraded your truck but you still have your standard base rail style fifth wheel hitch. And you wanna be able to use that in your newer truck, that has a Ford prep package. Here is what you're gonna need. This adapter drops right down into your pucks and then provides slots for your fifth wheel hitch to fit in.

So, a few measurements that people tend to want to know is, exactly how high this is going to sit And then also, what's the distance between the back of this to the front of our bed So, right now I'll give you that measurement. From the outer edge of the back part of our adapter up to the bed, it's gonna be roughly 25 inches. And then for the actual height from the bed up to the top of our adapter here is gonna be 3 1/4 inches. And what that's gonna do is, add on some additional height to your hitch. So, you're gonna need to take that into account whenever you're setting the hitch head height.

So, as far as installation goes this is gonna be a super easy install that you can easily do at home. It's not gonna require any extra tools as it's gonna come with a wrench to help you tighten down your jam nut and just dropping it straight up into your puck system inside of your truck. So, like I said, super simple to do. You can easily do it at home. So, to be in our installation, we're gonna have to first put in our feet onto our adapter rail.

To do that, your kit is gonna come with two packs. In each pack, there's gonna be two handles, a wrench, your anchor bushings, your T-pins, two jam nuts, end caps for the sides of your rails. And then also some pins that are gonna hold your handles in place. So, to begin, we are going to first stick on our anchor bushing. It's only gonna go one way, 'cause each side of this is flat.

So, we'll slide that in. We're gonna put on our jam nut, and we'll tighten that down. And we're gonna keep tightening this down, until there's no play in it. You don't wanna be able to move that. So, like right now I have play. And if you need to. If it's getting too tight by hand you can go ahead and start using the wrench. But once we have that play all gone we're gonna go ahead and turn this one more quarter turn and then we can move on to our next one. So, now we're gonna go ahead and take our T-pin and our handle, we'll place our T-pin up through our bushing. And then we're just gonna thread that into our handle and the way you wanna position your handle, so that the locking side is gonna be coming out away from the center of the truck. So, I'll start getting that threaded in. So, we're gonna go ahead and we'll just get this hand tight. And actually it lined up perfectly because we're gonna be sticking one of our locking pins through the castle nut here, and there's a hole inside of our T-pin. And we're gonna stick that right through that. If it didn't line up for you perfectly, you would just back off that T-pin just a little bit to get it in there. We'll go ahead. We'll stick our pin in and that's gonna prevent our handle from being able to come off. So, now we're gonna go ahead and do the same thing with our other side here. So, right here, I got this one tight, just hand tight. And as you can see, we don't have our hole there. So, I'm gonna go ahead and I'm just gonna back it up just enough to where we have that hole for our locking pin to go through. And then we can go ahead and push our handle through. And if you already had this in your truck you'd wanna go ahead and put your locking pin on like that. And that's gonna keep your handles from moving around. Last step's gonna be taking these two caps that you're gonna have and just popping 'em into place. And once you have that done, we're gonna repeat the same process over on the other side. So, now we're gonna go ahead and throw this in the bed of the truck. I'm gonna pull my pin and I'm gonna pull my handles facing towards the center of our adapter here. That's gonna have our feet lining up perfectly, so that they can drop right down in the puck system. So, now we're gonna go ahead and we'll set our pucks in. So, as you can see, we had to do a little bit of minor adjustment. I can only get this handle in right now, 'cause I dropped our T-pin down just a little bit. So, this is gonna vary depending on your truck. Not every single one's gonna fit just perfectly with how we tighten it to begin with. So, here's where you're gonna have to do a little bit of modification. We're gonna pull this back up and we'll keep loosening up our T-pin. So, put it back in the closed position, so that we can get our lock pin out and then we'll just keep loosening that up until we get it just enough to match up with our puck. So, I've loosened up my T-nut enough to get my handles easily slide in and out. In our pucks, the main thing here is that, you don't wanna loosen it too much. You shouldn't have any play with it. So, when I'm trying to pull on this I'm not getting any jiggle at all between the adapter and the puck. So, we know we got it set to the right thing. So, I'm gonna move over to the other side and loosen those up a bit, so that we can get our handles locked. Now, with our handles in place and locked with our pucks, we're gonna go ahead and throw our locking pin in. We'll just slide that through and push down our ring, and that's gonna prevent our handles from being able to pull out and loosen out of the puck. So, now with our handles locked in place, we can go ahead and throw on our fifth wheel hitch that fits ISR Rails. Well, I think that about does it for today's installation of the Reese Fifth Wheel Adapter, here on our 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty. My name is Kevin. Thanks for watching..

This product gets a three based on shipping condition only. etrailer customer service and shipping time was excellent as usual. The shipment arrived 2 days after the order was placed, as promised. However, as others have noted, the product packing is poor. The boxes arrived with significant damage resulting in cosmetic damage to several parts. I haven't put the hitch to use yet but I am assuming it will work correctly. I will leave a followup after I use it.

by:

The hitch arrived nicely packed in two boxes. Very easy to assemble and install on my existing bed rails. I took the RV out for a first run with the hitch, and it performed as advertised. It was a no fuss transaction and the hitch arrived on-time!

by:

I damage my old hitch on Wednesday and ordered this one and it came very fast had it in on Saturday afternoon and was able to make my east bound trip.
As always etrailer came through for me again. Thank You

I like the pin being surrounded by the jaws instead of just a bar across the back of the pin. The 16K seems to hold the pin tighter and helping to reduce chucking while towing. I had a slider due to when I bought this last 5th wheel, it was kind of forced onto me saying they couldn't let me leave without a slider with a short bed truck. But after I got home, I ordered a Reece Sidewinder, of which I had one on our first 5th wheel back in 2007. This is my third sidewinder and wouldn't pull without one. The Reece 16K hooks up good and towing without the worry of turning to sharp when getting fuel are days gone by, thanks to these 2 combined together.
The first Reece 16k I received had something just not right and I was having a heck of a time trying to hitch up. Sent Nicole here at eTrailer a picture of the jaws a little misaligned. Nicole got back with me quickly and we had a short conversation, and just a few days later I received a replacement head. That's service!!

The first hitch arrived damaged in shipping. The dent was minor but it was on the receiver plate so I asked to return it.

A lot of vendors would have pushed back on an 89 pound box being sent back but the etrailer team set up the return and shipment of the new hitch. No problem.

The new hitch arrived in good shape this afternoon. It took me about a half hour to install with normal tools and a torque wrench. Directions were clear, the parts fit, and I appreciate having the knowledgeable people at etrailer to fall back on.

There are a lot of things owners can fix themselves with the support of quality products, knowledge, and great customer service etrailer delivers.

by:

Product is good quality as it appeared --5th wheel itself was not delivered with rest of kit--arrived three days later. Installation easy.
Installation kit fits perfect-easy installation. Only variable was I had pre-existing air springs , so I had to mark and drill the frame brackets and install the air springs on the outside of the brackets--no big deal--worked out fine

by:

Delivery was fast and packaged well.
This
is my first 5th wheel hitch and has worked great for me pulling a shorter camper with a long bed 3/4 ton truck. Nice height adjustability to match the truck with the trailer. Good solid feel while pulling.

by:

I spent a whole day installing the Reese 16k hitch and custom quick mounting rails in a 2020 F150. Video was great and I advise you to watch it a couple of times before installing. Paper instructions not so good. If you have a 36 gallon fuel tank, I recommend you to do this install on a lift. I do not recommend you to install on your garage floor especially if you are 67 years old, still sore from laying on my back. You must remove spare tire and heat shield. I installed with tires on and very tight working around large fuel tank area. Going on a test drive to see if everything holds together.

by:

Looks like this is going to be a perfect fit for what I need to pull my 2011 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8265WS, 5th wheel trailer with the Revolution pin box. Just had it installed & after many years of driving truck with a 5th wheel, I can tell this is a good sturdy 5th wheel & looks good too.

by:

I very much appreciate the expedited shipping and the follow-up. Appears all made it in good shape. Have put you guys on my favs along with Harbor freight,
Home Depot, Cabella's, and Big 5.-----Tell more when installed. Will only use on occasion at Tree Farm.

by:

Because it was a new model truck, finding the right hitch became a challenge. etrailer was very helpful in sorting it out. 4,000 miles later we are happy campers

by:

Just finished putting it together and in the truck. Looks solid. A couple of holes between the legs and saddle bracket were slightly misaligned, so It took a little extra work to get it assembled, but that's better than them being really loose. The safety latch on the lever is also to tight, but nothing a touch with a file could not fix. Instructions could be a bit more detailed on assembly. Still looks like a good product. Can't wait to take it on the first trip.

by:

Excellent hitch for pulling my 5th wheel. Unhooks a lot easier than my last hitch. My last hitch would bind up and pin would not release at jaws. I would have to move truck up or back to get it just right for it would release. I’m not having that issue with this hitch. Major plus for me!! E trailer is good to work with. It was back ordered a few weeks but overall happy with the hitch.

by:

Everything is good
Hardware bag broke
open being shipped
Couple #8nuts where missing
Everything go to go

by:

Great product
We tow just about every
weekend

by:

Legs were not as heavy and our original 15k. Difficulty getting one of the legs into the original rails. Slight difference in center to center. Release does work much smoother than our old hitch As for etrailer, the hitch arrived in three days, No shipping charge. Great service.

by:

The hitch had several large scratches on the front leg decals and a lot of smaller scratches and dings on the painted surfaces. This was caused by inadequate packing materials. The parts should be packaged so they are not allowed to touch and rub against each other during transit. One of the mounting pins did not have a machined groove for the locking clip. I had to use an old pin I had from the hitch I replaced. I would like to get a replacement pin that has a groove for the locking pin as the one I'm using is 20+ years old. I had to drill out the hole for the cotter pin that attaches the handle. The pin would not go through until I drilled it out. On the flip side the hitch is what I expected it to be and seems to be well built and should do what I need it to do. I gave you 3 stars due to the packaging issues and the pin with no groove.

by:

After getting the rear rail installed, I used the hitch to set the front rail. I worked perfectly. I can remove the hitch without any binding. This was a problem with my old hitch on my old truck that was installed by the service department where I bought my original 5th wheel trailer.
This is basically the same hitch as I had before on my old truck and I had no problems with it after towing approximately 37,000 miles over 15 years so I expect that this hitch will give me the same service.

by:

The hitch has worked as expected. I would expect nothing but from Reese. During our last trip the hitch started to creek so I removed the top and applied a little grease. This unit is working in conjunction with a Revolution king pin box on our 5th wheel. We are very pleased with this unit for our application.
Etrailer has been our go to place for many trailering items. I would recommend them overall for customer and product performance

by:

Nice hitch, relatively easy to assemble & install, took about 1 1/2 hours. Will be trying it out this weekend.

by:

The hitch was installed on Valley Rails which was previously installed on my 2004 Silverado 3500. The hitch fit on the rails and during the first pull performed outstanding. I pull a 41ft 5th wheel and I am impressed with the double jaw lock.

by:

Great 5th wheel hitch and best price I could find. It fit into the rails on my 2012 Ford F250 perfectly. Very pleased with ETrailer's fast delivery and reliable products.

by:

Great fifth wheel hitch for the money. Gives a much smoother ride than my previous Reese than only rotated front to back. The customer service from etrailer was second ton none. I will definitely purchase from these folks again.

by:

Hitch arrived well packaged. Easy assembly and it fit right in to my existing rails for the Lil Rocker hitch I was replacing. I haven't towed with it yet but look forward to the security of the jaw clamp over the slide bar.

by:

etrailer gets 5 stars for quick delivery of this hitch. Reese on the other hand gets 0 stars for quality as the first time we hauled with it we got to our campsite and went to pull forward to put the trailer on blocks to level it and a weld broke on the jaw and let the trailer loose and it fell down and went back and bent the tailgate. Then I spent all memorial day weekend trying to get another head to pull 2 1/2 hours home. I did all of the leg work for them only to have to wait for them to make sure that they could pay me for repairs to our truck (3 months). etrailer was great, Reese not so much. So the rating is for the hitch not etrailer.
