Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer.com and today we are looking at our Erickson emergency warning triangle kit here at etrailer. These are a great thing to have inside your vehicle for when you breakdown by the side of the road and you need to show oncoming traffic that you are there. We have these set of three right here, but you can also pick up one in case you need a replacement or you just need one triangle. We have three different triangles here. So, we have the Peterson, and the Orion and the Erickson triangle warning kits. We have all three of those together, you can see they look very similar.

Let's take a look at how they reflect. As I point my lights at them you can see how they reflect off a bright white light from an oncoming car. Now, the Peterson and the Orion are very similar so when I went to compare them I compared these two with the Erickson. I personally like the Erickson a little bit more because when you shine a light on it it's reflectiveness, or a reflective surface has a little bit more visibility as well as its lighter color. Now, these triangles are required by DOT inside of large commercial vehicles so if you have a large truck, or a large bus, or a large motor home you might need this inside your vehicle at all times, but even if you drive something smaller like what I do I like to keep this inside my trunk just to make sure that I'm extra safe in case I break down by the side of the highway and need to pull over.

The triangle itself is made of plastic with these reflectors on the side. Now, this does not come weighted but you can take this off and add sand in there or other weights if you want to have it weighted. At the bottom you have these rubber skid plates just to keep them sturdy on the ground and not sliding around. These are lightweight and quick and easy to set-up. They come like this, but when you want to set them up all you need to do is rotate them and lift the arms up on each side and then connect the tops just like that and you are ready to go.

While these do have the skid plates on the bottom I do recommend weighting them down just so that they are a lot sturdier in case of extreme weather conditions. These come in a nice plastic case which is lightweight and easy to store since it's shaped like a rectangle. Now, if you put that lid back on you can see that it also comes with instructions on the sides of the case which gives instruction on how to set-up your triangles. And on this side it says how to set them up around your vehicle. Now, there's two ways to set this up depending on what kind of road that your breakdown on or you need to pull off of, let's take a look at that.

On a two lane road what you need to do is put the first triangle 10 feet away facing the traffic, then you put the second triangle 100 feet in front of your vehicle and then the third triangle 100 feet behind your vehicle. The second way to do this is when you pull over on a one-way or a divided highway is to put them 10 feet away, 100 feet away and then 200 feet away from the rear of your vehicle and facing the approaching traffic. My final thoughts about these triangles is I like how they are designed. Even though they are lightweight which makes it easier, honestly, to store inside my vehicle you have the option to weigh it down, as well as the skids underneath just to prevent it from moving around. Also the reflectors here are pretty good quality. It's still light in general but that's just how triangles are. I highly recommend picking up another roadside safety kit which comes with flashers or flares just to make sure you are extra safe on the road.
