Hey, everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today we have the Performance Tool Breakdown Lug Wrench. This is gonna be a collapsible lug wrench available in two kits. The first kit is gonna be for your SAE Lug Nut applications, which has two reversible sockets. Or you can get the larger kit that has four reversible sockets to include your metric size lug vents. We're gonna take a look at those components, as well as how to use them right here at etrailer. If you we're getting the kit with just these standard reversible sockets, you would have these two sockets which fit sizes 11/16, 3/4, 13/16, and 15/16.

If you're getting the full kit that included the metric sockets, you would get the additional 17-millimeter and 19-millimeter, as well as the 21-millimeter and 23-millimeter size sockets. Your entire kit is collapsible or breaks down into smaller components that fit into this included carrying bag. While this isn't the most sturdy of carrying bags, it fits everything and is easy to store it inside your trailer or your vehicle. It has a little cinch strap at the top, and you can just tie it off so you can store it with your other tools. All this works together so that you don't have to think about it until you need it.

We're gonna go ahead and use our lug wrench here to loosen the lug nuts of our wheel, so that we can take it off and replace it with a spare tire. Now, before you do that, whenever you're doing this on a trailer or a vehicle, follow the proper process, like caulking the other side of the axle or the other wheel and loosening the lug nuts while the tire is on the ground. After you loosen it where you can loosen it by hand, you can then jack up your trailer or your vehicle, making sure you're using the trailer jack on the correct spot of your trailer or vehicle frame. Now, let's get to it. (wheel stopper thuds) First thing you need to do is figure out which socket ties you're going to need.

Now, I'm going to use either the 13/16 socket or the 21-millimeter socket. Most people use this interchangeably, but for me, the 13/16 fits just a bit better. So once you figure that out, you're then going to set up your wrench. The wrench has a half-inch drive, so this drive can be used with all the different sockets. And if you have your own socket, you can use that on this wrench as well, as long as it also has a half-inch drive opening.

So there's a bolt on the end of that half-inch drive. And compared to some other wrenches and sockets, this actually has a very sturdy fit where I have to apply a lot of pressure to pull that socket back out. And if you look at the end of the wrench inside the socket, you can see it doesn't stick out. So that doesn't take up any of the socket's space, which helps a lot if you have longer threads where your lug nuts are, and that way it can fit well over that bolt and onto those nuts. With the socket on, you're then going to get your longer bar. People like to call is the breaker bar because this allows you to break the lug nuts loose. So you have different options here. Once you start on your lug nuts, you're gonna have the breaker bar out like this. That way, you have more torque. And some people even like to step on the breaker bar in order to break those lug nuts loose. And then once you have it loose, you then adjust it to the center, and that allows you to make this a faster process. So holding the free spinning handle, we're able to turn our lug nut quickly, and we're not gonna completely remove them yet because we still need to jack up the wheel. That bar locks into place on the wrench while the handle spins freely. If you need to adjust it to the different positions, you press the button on the wrench, and that will allow you to slide the bar over until you reach one of the indents on the ends or the middle where it'll lock back into place. The downside, though, to having reversible sockets is here, we do have longer studs. So while it does fit over the lug nut, technically it's not a complete fit, and I still have to support the actual wrench to push it in to make sure it's fully seated as I try to break the nut loose. And here's some quick measurements. Measuring from the end of the socket to where the bar is, that's going to be six inches. And the length of the bar from where the socket is to the end of the bar is 15 inches. That measurement may be helpful for you if you're trying to figure out if you have enough space around your tire in order to use this. For example, here, our breaker bar sits up right against the sidewall of the tire where it still works. But I'm not able to fully step on it or give it all my leverage because it sits up against the tire. So personal thoughts on this lug wrench is I do like the adjustability. It's nice to have those different options, the different situations, and being able to turn this from a breaker bar to a lug wrench that moves a lot faster. That free spinning handle is actually very helpful. Now, there are some downsides to this. I personally am not a fan of reversible sockets because I can't use this with my normal socket wrenches, and they just become short sockets, which are tricky when you have trailers that have really long studs. So in my situation, I would actually get a long barrel socket that fits the lug nuts of this trailer. We have a 21-millimeter long barrel socket from Performance Tool, which is the same brand as this wrench. This is something I would purchase separately and keep with this trailer if I needed to change out the tire. Now, using this was nice because I was able to break off the lug vents. But, it just sat a little too short that I wasn't able to use full leverage because I was hitting against the sidewall of the tire. Now, that's something you're gonna experience with pretty much any lug wrench used with this trailer. So those measurements will help you out because that will help you figure out if it will fit around your tire, fit around your trailer, and fit your lifestyle. But all in all, solid collapsible lug wrench. Definitely something worth considering. If you don't need the metric sockets, go ahead and get the standard-only kit. And if you're planning on using your own sockets, you can get the standard-only kit and replace those sockets with your own.
