Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Superwinch Talon off-road winch, with the synthetic rope and the hawse fairlead. Now this is a nice high performance off-road winch, which is designed for heavy duty vehicle recovery applications. On this end here, it uses a seal 5.2 horsepower series wound motor to deliver quick, safe line pulling. And it does respond to an increase in the load by slowing down and reducing the current to minimize the risk of overheating.
On the other hand, and right over here is an all steel two-stage planetary and two-stage spur gearbox. Here, ratio's 148 to one, so nice rugged construction delivers years of service, and it quickly and quietly turns the drum.Right up here is the clutch handle. It's a nice pull and turn freespool clutch to ensure a fast rope payout. The clutch handle, you can see, os a nice stylish chrome plating for corrosion resistance. And it's ergonomic for comfort, basically with the handle in this position where it's in line or parallel with the winch, that's showing you right here that it is engaged.
In other words, the winch can be operated. If you pull up on this handle and twist at 90 degrees, then it'll show you on this side that it's disengaged, and now you can pull out as much rope as you need. And then just to put it back into an engaged position, pull up, twist it, and it'll lock right into the engaged position. Also, it offers a nice sealed rotating gearbox, so it'll let you customize the position of the clutch for easy access. You can loosen the bolts and you can actually turn this and put the handle, clutch handle, in whatever position you want it to be. Now, the rope itself is 80 feet of three-eighths inch diameter.
AmSteel Blue synthetic rope. It's as strong as steel, yet lightweight. It is mounted over an all steel drum. It's specifically designed to handle synthetic ropes. And it does include, you can see here on the end, this nice half-inch removable latched hook right here.
Comes this a nylon hand saver strap and this black sleeve that goes up a few feet in the beginning here, that's a nice anti-abrasion sleeve. The fairlead this goes through is a silver anodized aluminum hawse fairlead, which will protect the synthetic rope from any damage. And this winch does use an automatic dual stop 100% load holding mechanical brake. Eliminates drag when you're pulling in the cable and reduces creep when you're letting out the cable, and it is mounted outside the drum to allow heat to disperse. Now, on top of the motor, right over here, this is a VS4 vented submersible and stabilized solenoid, with this sealed remote socket. Has a patented venting feature, which protects the contacts of water and allows internal condensation to escape. And it uses steel line rubber insulating mounting points to stabilize the solenoid, reducing any vibration and fatigue. Now, if you do want to move the solenoid, they do offering wiring kit, we do sell it separately on our website, that'll let you remotely mount the solenoid for easy access to the remote port. We do sell that kit separately on our website. It's part number SW2302283. Now, it does use circuit breakers. And if I swing this around, you can see the color-coded wiring attaches to your batteries included for installation. The wiring for the battery is two-gauge wire black and red wires. And then the remote right over here, it has a rubber handheld remote. Has a 15 foot long coil cord. That'll let you operate the switch from a nice, safe distance. It does use the push buttons on the remote to power the load in and out. And at the very front, if you push that button, you can winch safely at night because it has a built-in, trigger-operated LED light. So to hook up your remote, all you do is take your coil cord here, pop open the cap. And there's a little groove that you just line up with the groove, push it in, and then just twist the collar there and then locks it into place and you're all ready to go. And then when you're done, you can just, to remove it, just twist that collar loose and then pull the plug out. It's pretty simple to connect. Now, this does use an extruded aluminum body, which is very sturdy and corrosion resistant. You can see it uses tie bar construction to add strength and structural rigidity to the body. Few specs on this, the rate of line pole with a single layer of rope around the drum is 9,500 pounds static load. The vehicle recovery capacity is 6,000 pounds. The motor we mentioned to 12 volt DC motor, the line pull at zero pounds. The power draw would be 75 amps. Line speed, 62 feet per minute. The line pull at 9,500 pounds. The power draw be 430 amps. Line speed of five feet per minute. Weight on the switch is about 65 pounds. And the last thing I want to do is give you some dimensions on it.Now, it does also come with a nice installation guide and a winch user's guide that'll help you out. But the overall length, from this end to this end, is going to be right at 24 and a quarter inches long. The height, which right here is going to be the tallest port. So if we go from the bottom, all the way to the top, is right at 11 inches tall. And then the width, which is going to be here to here, is going to be right at about six and a quarter inches wide. But that should do it for the review on the Superwinch Talon off-road winch with the synthetic rope and the hawse fairlead.

It has an 80' synthetic rope and hawse fairlead, a hand-held remote with light and 15' lead, and a pull-and-turn free-spool clutch.I have the winch mounted on a detachable hitch that I have on my 18’ trailer. Pin in on when I need it. We buy , sell and show antique tractors. Some of the tractors we buy aren’t running so we just winch them on the trailer.
This winch has excellent power and torque and we can skid any tractor on the trailer even if the rear wheels are locked or if it has been sitting in the weeds for years.
Great buy for the money. Shipping was very fast.
Very satisfied with the service and, support. I originally set out to order the TS 9500 winch. Etrailer tried to help out by offering an upgrade to 13500 for less than the price of the 9500. Only problem there was a space issue when I mounted it behind my new bumper so, I had to return it and, settle for the smaller version. They made the return and replacement as painless as possible. The 9500 winch has been working without any issues since I purchased it a year ago. Thanks etrailer!
Excellent product, pulls my 3500lbs. car into my enclosed trailer with no problems.
Great winch. No regrets. Don't hesitate to purchase. Does everything i need it to do !
Works as advertised. Very strong.
Winch works great, plenty of pull power. My only complaint is that the control quit working after the second use. But I got a replacement from the manufacturer. Very satisfied with this product.
Got the winch mounted up and it looks great and works great and etrailer is a great place to do business. The only thing about the winch is the fact that it comes with some type of devise that hooks to the positive side of the battery. There is nothing in the printed instructions that tells you what this is. As an afterthought they threw in a picture that shows where this goes. Just to be sure I got this right, I went to youtube and found out exactly how this works. I don't know of any other winch that has this, certainly not the Warn I had, and it shows they wrapped this with electrical tape??? Still, no information. You must need this part or they wouldn't have threw it in, but still don't get it. Makes for an ugly installation on the battery though..........
very happy with this winch, I made a mount that was universal to my truck receiver and on my car trailer . Have not been stuck bad yet , but have used it many times to pull dead cars and trucks onto the trailer and it had no trouble pulling a full size 3/4 4x4 with 3 wheels not rolling onto my trailer . I would buy another one.
GREAT SERVICE!!!
Super fast delivery, exactly what I wanted and for the best price I could find.
Nice winch. Plenty of power. Remote control button sticks though making it a bit dangerous. My winch is mounted to trailer making it dangerous if you let off in/out button and it continues to winch in one direction or another.
Seems like a nice sturdy winch. Very fast service from etrailer just like always. Highly recommend them to anyone.
This is the second winch that I bought. The first winch had the return button go bad on the remote and was able to borrow one that worked. After the third year the motor burned out and I purchased another one. After one year the return button on the remote failed the same as last time. The winch is still running with the borrowed switch
I use the winch to pull 3,000 lb logs onto a log trailer. When it worked it did a good job
Great winch. It gets used EVERY DAY and never misses a beat. This is my second superwinch and the last one lasted three years, used every day, for an average of more than TWO THOUSAND PULLS a year! You'd better believe my next winch will be another one just like the first two!
Great Winch fast delivery. Best price of all putting on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler.
PURCHASED THIS ITEM FOR MY BRONCO AND TO BE USED ON MY TRAILER
Very nice Winch and at a great price from this site. I have it mounted on the front of my Jeep CJ7 and have needed to use it twice in the last year and both times it worked perfectly and got me or somebody else out of a tight spot. I gave it 5 stars!
My order arrived one day early and was perfect. I would recomend etrailer 100% will be putting it on my jeep in the net few weeks. Danny did a great job of putting my package together. I have everything I now need to go off road. Great Job Thanks
