Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this bulldog winch heavy duty series off-road winch, with the wire rope, the roller fairlead, and a 16,500 pound weight capacity. Now, this heavy duty windshield lets you recover a stuck vehicle. It helps you move boulders or logs. Or you can even pull a large vehicle onto a trailer. It's perfect for fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks, and other work trucks and commercial vehicles. It is designed for winching vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle, weight rating of 11,000 pounds.
Now on this side right here, we have a 5.6 horsepower series wound motor, which will deliver powerful and safe line pulling. This motor is more powerful, it's more efficient, and produces more torque than a permanent magnet motor. This does also have drain holes that'll let the water and the vapor escape to prevent internal moisture buildup. This one chooses an automatic ratcheting POL brake, which will hold a hundred percent of the load. The engaged POL will prevent the drum from spinning in reverse so a heavy load doesn't unintentionally pay out. Now right here on top of the motor, this is the power unit.
This will include the contactor in a plastic housing, all the wiring connected, and then even in the back here, you have your battery wires coming out of there. Now, they do offer a wiring kit. If you do want to move this power unit, if you don't want it on top of your motor, if you want to Mount it remotely, you can't. We do sell a wiring kit separately that allow you to do that. Now inside this power unit is a sealed 500 amp contactor, which will transmit power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. It is water and weather resistant to IP67 specifications. Also, if you notice what is included...
They do include this nice rubber handheld remote with the 12 foot lead. This will let you operate the winch from a nice safe distance. The switch is a nice weatherproof switch. It has a nice rubber coating on it. Powers the load in and out with this toggle switch up or down.
And the way you connect it, you just take your connection here on this end on the power unit, pop open the dust cap, line up the slot there, plugin, and then take your collar and just tighten that all the way down to hold it into place. Once it's all connected, then you can operate it with your remote. If you're not using it, all you have to do is unscrew that, pull out your connection, and put your cover right back on there. Now, if you do want a wireless remote control, we do sell that separately on our website. Now, this does use over here as an all steel four-stage planetary gear train. It has a gear ratio of 505 to 1. This will provide increased drum speed when compared with warm drives and the one, two, or three stage planetary gear trains. It does use a free spooling clutch to ensure fast rope payout and reduces wear on the motor. This clutch handle will control that right up at the top here. If it's lined up this way, that means it's engaged. And with it engaged, that means you can use your remote to operate it in and out. If you want fast payout, turn this handle to disengage. This clutch handle, just rotate it to where it's disengaged, and then you can pull out as much as you want a lot faster. Once you get out as much as you need, just flip it back into the engage and then operate it with your remote. Very nice feature. Also a nice feature is the gearbox itself. This gearbox right over here, this can be rotated 360 degrees so that you can reach the clutch handle no matter where you mount the winch. Basically, if you want this handle on the front here, you can just loosen a couple of bolts, rotate it, and then have your handle here. If you want it in the back, same way, rotate it, and then just tighten it down. So that's a nice feature, lets you place your clutch handle wherever you'd like it. The wire rope on this is a seven sixteenths diameter, zinc plated wire rope. It's strong and abrasion resistant. It's 92 feet long. It is an aircraft grade galvanized steel. If you notice on the end, it has this nice half inch zinc plated steel hook with the keeper on it. And the nice nylon hand straight saver strap is included. The roller fairlead right here. It is a nice steel roller fairlead with a nice thick frame. It has four rollers, two horizontal and then two vertical. This will help reduce friction and wear on the wire rope. And it has a nice silver zinc plated finish to help resist corrosion. Now this winch has a nice heavy duty steel housing with the stick side frames and the tie bars, which create a nice strong winch body. They are all black powder coat finish, which is corrosion resistant. And the motor tube on this is a Dacromet plate and motor tube, which will resist internal corrosion.I want to give you a few specs and then some measurements on this. So the specs, the rated line pole with a single layer of wire rope around the drum is 16,500 pounds static load. We had mentioned before the vehicle recovery capacity is 11,000 pounds. The motor on this is a 12 volt DC motor. The line pull at zero pounds. The power draw is 50 amps. Line speed is 18 feet per minute. The line pull at 16,500 pound. Power draw would be 355 amps. The line speed is 3.6 feet per minute. We showed you the battery wires right here in the back. You just rotate this around. You can see these battery wires that are connected to the contactor and attached to your battery. The size of these wires is two gauge and the lead length is about six feet on those wires. And last thing we'll do is just give you some dimensions. The overall length from one end to the other end, if we put our tape measure on that, is going to be right at 27 and three quarter inches long. Overall height, bottom to the very top, 12 and a half inches tall. And the width on this is going to be right at about 10 and a half inches wide. Now, the winch weight on this is about 185 pounds, so it is a very heavy winch, but it is also a heavy duty design. Really nice features on it. It does come with the mounting hardware, a nice operator's manual to describe how to make all your connections and how to operate it.But that should do it for the review on this bulldog winch heavy duty series off-road winch with the wire rope, the roller fairlead, and a 16,500 pounds weight capacity..
Fits perfect
