Installing 4-Way Trailer Connector on a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Hi I bought a cheap 4 plug harness to install on my jeep. The trailer has the same. I have yellow, green, white and brown. I want to connect them to my 97 jeep grand Cherokee tail light assembly by just tapping into the wires but dont know what colors goes where. Can you help

Vehicle manufacturers don't always (Hardly ever) use the standard green, yellow, white, brown wire coloring we're familiar with. So, you have to connect the harness by function. Use a circuit tester, like our # PTW2993, to test the wiring on the Jeep to determine each one's function. Then wire it as follows:
Green - Right turn signal
Yellow - Left turn signal
White - Ground to the Jeep's frame
Brown - Running lights
If you'd rather use the custom wiring harness for the Grand Cherokee, I recommend # 118349. This installs by plugging in behind both taillights and then running a wire up to the Jeep's battery.
