Recommended 7-Way Trailer Connector for 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Hi, I was looking at the trailer wiring for a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I noticed they are all set up for 4 terminal plugs. I was looking for the wiring for a 7 terminal plug. Mainly it would just need to add the reverse lights since my Jeep already has the brake controller wire, and a 12volt line is easy enough to run. Thank you.

If you have the factory tow package on your 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM42525. If you do not have the factory tow package, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118349. Like you stated, this will give you a 4-way only. To upgrade to the 7 way, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 which will utilize that 4-way plug and give you the other three functions to connect. This will give you the wires, connectors, and circuit breakers needed as well as the 7-way trailer connector and bracket. Since you already have the brake controller wire, you can choose to use that wire or you can run a new one using the supplied wire in the kit..

If you don't already have a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This will give you a proportional controller that applies the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your Jeep. It also has an easy to read LCD screen and integrated boost settings. My favorite part of this controller is that you don't have error codes that you need a manual to decipher. It gives you clear diagnostics in a simple and clear way to ensure your system is functioning correctly.
