Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's electric junction box, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the rear threshold and interior trim panel to access this box. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11143115 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plugin simple vehicle wiring harness with a 4-pull flat trailer connector. This product fits a 2005 to 2010 Honda Odyssey. It's going to provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of the vehicle to power the trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pull, 6-pull and 7-pull adapters, adapters are sold separately, and it comes with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector. That way you can cover up those connection points when the plug's not being used. This simply just fits over those terminals and it just protects those connection points from dirt and grime building up and it's going to really protect it from corrosion. The unit's going to feature protective connection terminals to resist rust and corrosion as well.

The black box right here is going to be the included tail light converter. This is going to ensure that you vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailers. The powered module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. Now, the unit's designed to connect quickly and easily. One of the things I want to point out is the that the connectors, the butt connectors for the fuse holder and for the hot lead, as well as the ring terminal for the fuse holder, those are already pre-attached. You don't have to attach those initially for the installation.

They're already on there which makes wiring and hooking up a lot easier. Your installation, it's fairly simple. No cutting or splicing of the wires is required. All you have to do is locate your connection point in the rear cargo area and plug in your connector. This is a custom fit plug, so it's designed to fit the vehicle perfectly. It's going to fit directly in the port.

You just push it together and it snap locks together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you get that connected, you'll need to mount the converter box to an out of the way location. It's got two areas right here for mounting and you can mount it using the cable ties provided with the kit. Then you'll need to make a ground connection. That's going to be your white wire. It has a ring terminal already attached to it.

You want to get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface and you can do that with the included grounding screw that's provided with the kit. Then you'll need to run your hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is a short red wire coming out of the converter box. It has a butt connector already attached to it. This is going to get connected to one end of the bundle of red wire. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery and gets connected to one-half of the fuse holder, the end with the butt connector on it. The other wire on the fuse holder gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. The kit also supplies your 20 amp fuse. It goes directly here in the fuse holder and then the fuse holder has the cap on there to keep the fuse safe and protected. Now, once you have that done, you can secure any access or slack in the wire with the included cable ties. Then once your installation is complete, the 4-way connector's going to be stowed in your rear cargo area. Plenty of wiring right there. That way you can extend it out the back of the vehicle and use it whenever you're ready. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pull connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points and the grease is included with the kit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plugin simple vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pull flat trailer connector.

Failed to realize that this model wants a hot wire run all the eay to the battery rather than just putting a fuse in the passenger side panel. The product description does make this clear. I must have been tired. I found a work around that works fine.

It was easy to install, and seems to do the job. In all fairness I have used the trailer much less than I intended.

  • Recommended 7-way Trailer Harness for a 2010 Honda Odyssey
Hey Prasanna, so all of the instructions should come with the products but to start you're going to need to add a 4 pole if you don't already have one with # HM11143115. From here, you'd just need to tee into the 4 pole you've just added and install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 which will now give you a 7-way.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights not Working After Harness Install
There are a number of steps for you to take to figure out exactly why the lights on your trailer are not working. You did not specify the harness you used, but for a 2007 Honda Odyssey, there are three fits, the T-One # 118438, Curt # C56161, and Hopkins # HM11143115. To start, we'll isolate the problem to either the trailer or vehicle. You can do this by using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to check the functions of the 4-way plug while somebody else engages them (brake, turn signal,...
