Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Coghlan's Lensatic compass. This is going to help you navigate your surroundings. It's gonna be ideal for determining the bearings of a distant landmark. This does have a liquid-filled body, so the dial is kind of floating, as you can see there.
It does have these luminous letters and lines that will allow you to check your bearings in low-light conditions. So as you can see, I took a picture of that with the lights off here in my studio, and they do have very bright lines and letters, so you should be able to see that pretty clearly. And this does have a sturdy black plastic case that's gonna help protect the compass and a thumb loop for a better hold. They also include basic instructions for you to use, so if you don't already know how to use this, I would recommend probably doing some more research. I don't know that these are gonna be enough to teach you everything that you really need to know, but this is going to have this bezel ring here that will allow you to preset your compass for north so that you can make sure that you're always traveling in the right direction.
A couple of things that this compass does not have is the bezel ring doesn't really click, so you can't really set your degrees. If you're basing it off a map, you won't be able to do much with that. It does not have a true fixed index line. As you can see, the lens is kind of moving there. So we've got our smaller line and then our longer line that are both moving.
So that will probably help with orienting to landmarks, but not quite like the high-end models there. And it also does not have a a sight wire like your higher-end models. So in my mind, this is more for those of you who are just wanting to try out using a Lensatic compass if you're going out for an afternoon hike or something like that. But if you're gonna be doing more backwoods camping, more rigorous travel, I would recommend probably a higher-end model. But for those of you who are just wanting to add a little extra interest to your camping trip, I think this is gonna do a great job.
