Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the GSI Outdoors Aluminum Dutch Oven. This is going to be a great thing to keep with you if you're going to be going car camping, or you don't mind having something a little bit heavier for your camping in general, to make a big pot of something delicious for your whole group. So, whether that's baking some bread, making up dessert, or being able to make a big pot of chili, stew, or anything else that you would want to make in your Dutch Oven, this is a really nice way to do it because it's going to give you the same sort of even heating that you typically find with your cast iron, but about a third of the weight, so you can still have that wonderful camp cookout, but without having to lug a giant super heavy thin. This is a 14 inch diameter, holds about eight quarts. So again, great for a crowd really holds up nicely.Since it is an anodized aluminum, there's no coating or anything to give you a nonstick surface, but just the way that anodizing aluminum works, it will give you a nice clean nonstick surface to cook from, but you don't have to worry about any kind of coating flaking off with that.

So all in all, this is a really great item to make a big pot of something great, whether it's fried chicken or anything else for a large group. So, let's take a little closer look at it and I can show you the interior here. Again, it's going to have that nice, smooth surface with a kind of naturally nonstick coating. Of course, it's a good idea to treat it well, put a little bit of oil in there, make sure that you coat the whole thing, kind of as you would cast iron, but you don't have to worry about it rusting out because it's aluminum, so you don't ever have to worry about that portion of care.There are three little feet for this to stand on, so you can put this on your grill or over the top. Does have the two handles to come up and hold that as well.

Nice big lid that we can stack our coals on top of if we want to do anything, kind of like a baking thing, for again making bread or brownies or something else for our dessert or anything else. One thing that I have noticed though with this, is that the lid itself, some people like to use this as kind of a bonus as a griddle, but this doesn't really have a smooth enough surface. It's got a little bit of porosity to it, or just some little kind of holes in it, so I wouldn't suggest using it as a cooking surface on its own. It's really intended to be a lid. So, that is one thing to keep in mind.

It'll do great for that, but it doesn't really give you that bonus that some other people will, but it doesn't make a nice sound whenever you whack it against the bowl.As far as the weight, it's about eight pounds, again, about a 14 inch diameter for the interior. Exterior, I'm going to go to the sides of these little tabs, so it's about 15 and three quarter inches wide without those tabs, it's about 14 inches, about 14 and an eighth. Total height with the lid is about eight inches tall and those feet are about one and three quarters, it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. And that's pretty much all there is to it for our quick look at the GSI Outdoors Dutch Oven. I hope that this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you.
