Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.
Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.
Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

Today, we're going to take a look at the Derale 8" Tornado Electric Fan with the standard mounting kit. This 8" reversible tornado fan is has proven to be a perfect addition to transmission and engine coolers that could use some extra airflow. This can be mounted on either side of the cooler as a pusher or puller with no loss of air flow. The fan comes from the factory set up as a puller application. If you do want to use it as a pusher application, to change it, all you have to do is unbolt this, remove the fan, flip it over, reinstall the fan on the motor shaft. If you notice this has a nice ultra-low profile design for tight applications. It does use the ultra-quite patented straight-blade design.
You can see the ten blades. Very quite. This part does include everything shown here, the electric fan assembly, the nylon mounting kit, nice set of detailed instructions on how to install it. A few specs on this fan: the maximum cubic feet per minute it moves is 500, the power draw is 4.8 amps. Give you a few dimensions on this, I'm going to measure the overall width from edge to edge herem it's going to be right at 8-1/4". The height from the very bottom to the very top is right at 8" and the depth from the front here to the furthest point back is going to be right at 2-3/8" deep. The fan itself is an 8" diameter fan and the depth of the fan itself is 1-3/8". That should do it for the review on the Derale 8" Tornado Electric Fan with the standard mounting kit..

First off, I am truly impressed with etrailer's extensive info and product demos they offer on their website. I have purchased several items from etrailer and have never been disappointed. And shipping is fast. Regarding the Derale electric fan It works great to this day. But at etrailer and never look back.
The quality of 500CFM Derale 8" Tornado Electric Fan appears to be good. The build quality is solid and it pulls a lot of air plus it's quiet. Time will tell how long it will last. Also I would like to emphasize the amazing service and delivery I received from etrailer. Very happy with my purchase and experience.
