Today we'll be taking a look at the Yakima windshield fairing. These are available in a variety of different sizes: at 34 inches long, part number Y05016; at 40 inches long, part number Y05017; at 46 inches long, part number Y05018; at 52 inches long, part number Y05019. The one we'll be working with today is 40 inches long, but they all share the same features. This universal fairing deflects wind around your roof rack to drastically reduce noise and drag. Its sleek design enhances the overall look of your roof rack. It's an easy clamp-on installation, and the padded feet are going to protect your vehicle's finish. The theft-deterring hardware requires the included tool for installation or removal.
The fairing is constructed out of a flexible, heavy-duty plastic, and it's covered by Yakima's Love It Till You Leave It lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we want to do is go ahead and set our fairing in position. Today, we're working with the Yakima JetStream Crossbar, but this will work with your round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems. Let's go ahead and set it in place. We want to make sure the notched portion sits in our crossbar like this, and then we can go ahead and center it up.
Looks like I need to come this way a little bit. Once we've got it centered up, we can then bring our straps around, and then we're going to connect it to the underside here. Once we've got them all connected, we can then tighten them down with our included tool. As you can see, it's drawing the strap through. It'll be a nice snug fit. Once we get it nice and tight, we can just repeat it for the other 3 straps.
With all those tightened down, let's go ahead and take our strap and tuck it in the keeper here, just like that. Now, the last thing that we can do is take our clear pad and place it on our vehicle where our fairing comes in contact. That's just to protect our vehicle from any harm. That'll complete our look at the Yakima windshield fairing.

At the time of my purchase there was not many visuals of what the rack system looked like on this car.
I purchased the:
•Yakima 50in Jetstream crossbars
•Yakima baseline towers
•bc182 & bc183 clips
•Yakima 46in fairing
Overall I love how it looks on my car! During This COVID pandemic I have been camping more, and this is the perfect foundation! First off, the 46in fairing is the perfect fit for the 10th gen civic! Wind noise is low also with the help of the aerodynamic crossbars. My main concern was the fuel efficiency. On long road trips I still average 38-40 mpg with the rack on. My daily commutes I average 34 mpg without Econ on.
Works perfectly on my 2019 Hyundai Kona EV, having shifted from Thule to Yakima since Thule did not have a roof mount solution for the Kona EV. Good luck everyone!
The new fairing makes my Jepp look badass and solved the whistling problem around my roof racks. Also, very easy to install
This was the only fairing I could find to fit the OEM bars on my MK 6 Volkswagen Jetta. Installation was easy and the wind noises are gone
Looks great and fits like a glove on my aero bars! Definitely reduces the wind noise.
This Yakima fairing is all plastic, I don't think there are any metal components, even the tightening mechanism. Installed on round bars and the toothed straps holding the fairing to the rack bar strips out/slips before it tightens very securely. May work better on the aero type bars but it remains to be seen if they hold on round bars.
This fairing/windshield is much shorter than versions I purchased in years past. Older styles extended to the vehicle windshield and made a relatively seamless surface to deflect the wind up the vehicle windshield, up the Yakima fairing and over the roof racks. This model has about a one inch gap between the vehicle roof and the bottom of the Yakima fairing. This is probably a design compromise since the front roof rack sets so far back from the vehicle windshield but it will not deflect as much wind as older designs.
This fairing seems VERY over priced for the quality of the product.
New installation so I'll have to drive around to see if the fairing reduces wind noise or if it moves on the round bars....
Super sleek and durable plan on using on my trips to California
I had installed the roof rack on my Honda Element and knew I needed to do something because the wind noise was deafening. This Yakima wind fairing is perfect. Just what I needed. Easy to assemble and install. Looks great and it eliminates all of the wind noise.
Worked well to minimize the air noise on our Grand Cherokee, look nice, can't go through car wash, difficult to use as a roof rack
Pretty simple to install to existing round bar rack. Mounting strap locations lined up with tower bases, but I was able to finesse things to work with no issues. Nice look and reduced wind noise on my 2004 VW R32
Excellent customer service as always only place I shop for roof rack supplies is etrailer!!!
The air deflector made a big difference in the noise that is transferred into the interior from the rack that I have.
It wasn’t needed for the jetstream bars but I love the look of the windscreen paired with the roof rack.
The deflector instantly quieted what was a very noisy rack above 45mph. The deflector (and racks) have been on since the moment I bought them. It's a great product strong, durable, and effective. Well worth the price.
Excellent!!! Super easy installation and works well.

In the same place I installed it. Working great!
I recently purchased a Yakima rack, basket and fairing for my 2008 Honda Element and am couldn't be happier with the products, the pricing and the service I've received through etrailer. Thanks folks!
Great seller! Love my Yakima rack!
Excellent fairing. The only downside is that the package didn’t come with the clear
Pieces to put on my car so it would scrextch the paint. Idk if they didn’t pack it or just don’t supply those anymore but of they do I would like to and that sent to me
Simple, easy to install
Perfect fit for my 2013 Nissan Rogue. Dramatically cuts down on wind noise. Extremely easy to install.
Since adding a roof rack on my car, I have had to put up with an irritating, loud howling noise, especially when driving over 40 mph. I heard that a fairing would cut the wind resistance and reduce the noise, but I had no idea how much! I should have gotten this a long time ago. Can't believe the BIG difference a fairing makes.
Easy to install, a must with the roof r ack!
Didn't notice much difference in the mind-numbing wind noise of the rack.
Looks good, very solid. Although, I have yet to put it through its paces. But seems very secure and will definitely do the job.
Order was as expected, all good here!
