Ellen: Hey everybody, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the dimmer for Vision X off-road lights with Prime Drive. Now this is going to be a push button controller to dim your lights. It's going to take it from a hundred percent output down to 50, and then back again. So it comes with our dimmer and then the two wiring harnesses to get it connected to the rest of your Vision X lighting system. So these are going to be Deutsch connectors that just provide a nice watertight seal, can match up the tabs and then push it all the way until you hear a little click and it should be nice and snugly in place. Same thing with our small yellow connector. Connect those two, you hear the audible click there. Now, this is going to be our dimmer switch connection.

These two will be going to ground and power. Red wire goes to power, black wire goes to ground. The green wire matches up with the yellow wire on our kit for our lights. So this is a round light from Vision X has the little yellow wire coming off of the wiring harness at the back, so that's what we're going to match it up to our green wire. And I'm just using this little alligator clip just for demonstration, just to quickly get this connected. Of course, whenever you actually install this, you'll want to use a soldering iron to actually make that connection solid or use some insulated butt connectors, heat shrink butt connectors, whatever the case might be.

We do have heat shrinks and regular butt connectors here at etrailer.com if you want to pick up some of that while you get all your light accessories.I'm going to bring over the harness from the dimmer as well, and I'm just going to connect that to the same wires as my light, since it's going to be doing the same thing here, move everything over so you can actually see what's going on. So black to ground, and then red to power, just matching everything up color for color there.Typically, whenever you're using the Vision X lighting it'll have a big wiring harness, so that'll actually be what's powering your system. But with this, we'll be able to go to full brightness or dim it down to half power, and with that wiring harness that usually comes with your Vision X lights it will usually have an on-off switch. Now, in this case, with this particular light, it just comes with the light and that small two prong wiring harness. So there's no on-off function with the dimmer button.

Just keep that in mind, it's just going to have full power and then down to half. So if you want some way to turn it off, I would suggest getting the dial version of this. It's almost the exact same thing comes with the same wiring harnesses, but instead you have a little turn dial and that will actually go from hundred percent down to 50 and then it'll click off.So if you want to be able to turn the lights off from the dimmer switch, that one would be a better choice. And that's also available here at etrailer.com if you want to pick that up. Should be a related part on the page to get that ordered up for you, but pretty simple to wire that together now that we've seen how it's going to work.

Going to shut everything off here, and we'll go over some measurements. Disconnect all my wires, get my light out of the way there.Okay, so as far as the whole kit, when everything's all together there from the end of that button to the end of the wiring harness, it's about 15 and a half inches long. Just with the wiring coming from our button harness it's going to be a bit shorter than that. From the end of that button to the end of the connector, it's about five and three quarters inches long. Our little green wire connector, that's just about five inches long with the plug on the end. Our two prong plug is about eight inches long. So if you need some additional wire to go with that, you can always pick up some extra wire again, right here at etrailer.com, you guessed it. And as far as the box itself, where you probably want to mount this somewhere inside your cab within easy reach, so you're not having to reach across to push that button. This is going to be about three inches long with that button all the way out, it's about two and a quarter inches wide to the widest point of those tabs. The mounting holes on either side are about one and three quarter inches apart. There's no hardware included to get this mounted up, so it's really going to depend on your application where you want to put this. If you want to use some existing screws, maybe in the dash of your vehicle that you're mounting this to, or you can just use some self tapping screws, maybe a nut and a bolt, but it's going to really depend on how you install it.The height is about one and three eighths. So not too bulky, shouldn't take up too much room. You find a spot for it, either on top of your dash or maybe turned over upside down underneath your dash somewhere that's out of the way, not going to block your driving functions normally, but somewhere easy enough to where you don't really have to reach too far to operate it. The voltage for this goes from nine to 40 volts, DC, and that's going to do it for our look at the dimmer for Vision X off-road lights with Prime Drive..

  • How To Wire Up the PDIMMER for Vision X Xmitter LoPro Prime Xtreme Off-Road Light Bar
I spoke to my contact at Vision X and he informed me that the green wire of the box that has the yellow connector gets run to the dimmer circuit of the Vision X lights, the red wire of the other connector gets run to a 12 volt power source and the black wire gets run to a ground.

  • Function Comparison Between Dimmers For Vision X Lights
The # XIL-PDIMMER is just as you said. It is simply allowing you to dim the Vision X lights you have attached to it. A nice feature with using the Vision X dimmer is that installation of your lights is much simpler with the specific connectors. I also noticed that the dimmer used 18 gauge wire for its installation. Since LED lights do not require nearly as much current to work, the gauge wire they can use is significantly smaller. We also offer another switch, part # PDIMMERBUTTON....
