Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at the UWS rod connector. This rod connector is going to connect your toolbox latch handle to the rod inside the toolbox that operates that latch. It will work with any UWS box with two handles and it is going to allow that lid to be opened from either the driver's side or the passenger side of your vehicle. Give you a few pictures here to show you how that's going to connect to that rod.
You can see it's going to allow the rod to pass through and then we can easily tighten down this bolt up here with a eighth of an inch hex wrench and that will hold that rod in place and allow us to get everything connected.Do want to give you a few measurements, but they are pretty small measurements so you can see on the diagram there, the head is right about 0.62 inches. It is in total about 0.7 inches tall. The overall width of the lower part there is 0.439 of an inch, and the opening of our hole is about 0.27. I did independently verify those measurements with my own digital calipers, so I can tell you that they are accurate and this is going to be a great option for you if you need to reconnect those latches on your toolbox. Worked great, and hard to find anywhere else.
The dimensions listed in the photos are accurate, except that my hole diameter was slightly larger than stated - Mine was 0.277" (~7mm), just in case someone thinks it won't fit their application. If you need slightly larger than that, it could be drilled/reamed to fit.
Just don't over tighten these type of nuts, or they might break. Order an extra one and attach it to the connecting rod for safe keeping just in case.
They were a little bigger round than the hole they go in. But I drilled out the hole they go in to make them work, but they work great
These rod connectors are so simple and easy to install. They work like they are supposed to. Etrailer makes the purchase very easy and shipping is quick. I would recommend this product to anyone who has to replace latches on a tool box.

The following might seem kind funny to read as this little part seems kind of arbitrary right? Wrong! First off finding a rod connector isn't easy, second off the ones used by many toolbox manufacturers are riveted/crimped in place and for most brands it works for a long time. If a latch should fail though what do you do? If you're me you go to the interwebs and buy the best replacement latch you can find and figure out what else you need, in my case I was replacing two paddle handles on a box that was only two years old! No brand names mentioned on purpose because the latches installed in the box were absolute garbage and I dont really want to sling mud. They had the crimped on rod connectors of course, why make something serviceable? After finding latches I had to really search for rod connectors and who might sell the little necessities and found etrailer, WOOHOO! good quality steel machined nicely and galvanized well. The rod connectors showed up before the new paddle handles did! Black oxide set screws treated with a bit of lock-tite to keep them in place and the galvanisation didn't rub off or scratch when I put them through the new stainless latch! I would definitely buy these again, definitely recommend them, and will certainly do business with etrailer again. Thank you for a great product (as the "simple" things are often overlooked) at a good price in timely manner. Disclaimer: most things are not designed to be retrofitted or replaced and minor modifications to latch/linkage was required...but it was easy.

Well, its been well beyond a year at this point nearly 3 and everything I said originally still stands true to this day. Etrailer is still my favorite supplier, and these little gems are still the bees knees.
A hard part to find but not at etrailer
I had spent hours trying to rig stuff up for these rod connectors, clamos, little U-bolts, etc, because I couldn't find replacement parts...Finally, I found them on your site and they work perfect!! 5 minute repair! Love it! Don't have to walk all the way around my truck any more to open both sides!

Still works great! Tool box opens first pull every time from either side!
This part was not easy to find. Amazon price was very high and only had one avaliable.etrailer.com had the quanity I needed and the price was right. Upon receiving the parts, I had my project finished in a matter of minutes. The people at etrailer.com have been very good at following up to make sure I am happy. Glad I am now aware of this fine company for my future parts needs.
The product we ordered arrived on the 11th as expected. We were not sure that this would be the exact product needed for our job, but it turned out to be perfect. Our Truck tool box is once again working like a charm. Thank you.

When replacing paddle handles on truck tool box you need these to connect cross-over rod that operates second latch on the other side of tool box. They are made well, work perfectly and cost very little. It does not pay to mess around trying to create a connector with tie wire, hose clamps or such when these UWSRODCONNECTORS are available from etrailer.com and shipped quickly at very low cost.
The price for the UWS rod connector was much cheaper at etrailer. Shipping was fast. I installed it in maybe 15 minutes. I take my time with things, so you will probably do it faster. You can't go wrong with this!
Fantastic product at a great price! The set screw is even dabbed with thread locker "blue." I have not installed it because I ordered the wrong item. I need the stud for the lifting arm..
Quick and easy to install. It was a nice touch to see blue loctite on the warm screw.
This was exactly what I was needing for my toolbox to open easily. Now I just need to figure out how to fix the hinge on the lid.
It does the job.
