Installation of TrailerMate Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the right of the steering column.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Product is fine and looks good installed. It was difficult to run the electrical wire to the rear light and I would make sure the next one has the two connectors for under the dash.

For your Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR you will use the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Pigtail - RAM # 3023-S or harness # TM75295. The red wire on that harness will connect to the center high mounted brake light wire on your truck. Where to Attach Red Wire From Brake Controller Wiring Harness on 2014 Ram 1500
Actually, there is an easier way of connecting that wire in order to install the # RED24FR Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty brake controller. If you look up above the brake pedal, you'll see a small white connector. I'll link you to a video and a photo showing where the connector is located. You can use the quick splice connector included with your # TM75295 to tap that red brake controller wire into the wire feeding the connector shown in the photo.

Replacement for Factory Brake Controller On 2014 Ram 3500 for Use With EOH Actuator
If the factory brake controller is not sending a full 12 volts to the actuator while set to max with the manual override applied then there is an issue and it will need to be repaired or replaced. The factory brake controllers usually don't work very well with electric over hydraulic actuators anyway so a full replacement would be best.
