Features:

  • Fixes hyperflashing or burned-out bulb indicators on turn signals with LED lights
  • Fits tight applications with compact design
  • Installs quickly and easily
  • Works with most import and domestic vehicles
  • Constructed of durable aluminum
  • Includes 2 load resistors - 1 for each turn signal

Specs:

  • 6 Ohms
  • 50 Watts
  • Lifetime warranty

Because LED bulbs have little resistance on their own, they can create a "hyperflash" situation when used in turn signals. This fast flashing is similar to what your factory signal light does when the bulb is about to burn out. To prevent this phenomenon, install a load-resistor kit along with your new LEDs. Each load resistor will build additional resistance in the line to correct the flash timing of the bulb, resulting in a properly functioning indicator.

Video Transcript for Review of Putco Light Parts - LED Bulb Aluminum Load Resistors - P230004A-2

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Putco aluminum load resistors. These are going to be for your LED light bulbs. And this comes as a quantity of two, so you'll get one for either side of your vehicle. Now, the reason why you'd need these is because you're adding on an LED lighting system or LED lights to maybe your RV or your vehicle and it's causing a hyperflash. What happens is a lot of those vehicles, they're just not used to having such a low draw of power for those lights so they think something is wrong, even though there's not.

And that's when they're going to cause that hyperflash, it's typically to let you know that one of your bulbs is out and that you need to change it. So that's when you're going to need to put it in a resistor, it kind of fools the system into thinking that there's more current going through the wires than there really is, and it helps to relieve that problem. So it's a pretty easy solution to something that could be pretty frustrating for a lot of folks when they just changed out their lights and now they're getting an issue. So I think this is a smart kit to get, since it gives you two, one for either side. You need one resistor per circuit that's going to be flashing. So pretty much, you're just going to need one for either side for your turn signal.

That's typically going to be all you'd need. Now these do come with these quick splice connectors and that's pretty much all you'd need to get them installed.Although if it was me, I would probably change these to a heat shrink butt connector. They're just going to give you a better connection and they do make a watertight connection as well. It's not necessary, you don't have to do it. It's just something if I was going to be installing this on my trailer or on my motorhome or anything else, that's what I would swap out.

I just think it makes a better connection. Typically, have less problems with them. And especially if you're putting these into a spot that's hard to get to, I would rather have to swap something out at the start rather than having to go back in and replace these out over time because I've seen that happen and it's really annoying. So just my 2 cents on that.If we take a little closer look at these guys, you can see that they are housed in this aluminum casing, which is really nice because it makes them very durable, especially to any kind of extreme heat or also to cold. These will be able to dissipate or let go of heat better than other materials so they work well in all kinds of situations and they shouldn't have too much issue with vibration or anything like that.

Also, something I like about this little housing is that they have this little tab on either side to allow you to put in a screw or a bolt or something to hold them down. You don't have to do that, it doesn't come with any hardware to do it, but I just think it's nice that they give you that option. You could even maybe put a teeny tiny zip tie through one of those holes or both of them, or at least have something to brace against to cinch this off and kind of keep it with your wiring, which is always a good idea to not have things bouncing around. It usually just makes for a better install over time. So that's one thing I like. Just to give you a couple measurements here, the length of the resistor housing is about two inches with the connections on either end, you probably want to give yourself closer to three or four inches on either side, just to make sure that that wiring doesn't get bound up. But if you're limited on space, you could bend them a little bit.The width of the unit is about seven eighths of an inch. Total height is about five eighths. The wiring coming off the side, it looks like you got about four inches. And if you do want to go ahead and switch out the quick splices for some heat shrink butt connectors, I would suggest getting either the blue or the yellow. That's going to be either the blue ones are the 16 to 14 gauge and the yellow ones are 12 to 10 gauge. You can find either one of those here at etrailer.com and you can find some packs of them so you can have a few on hand. That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the Putco LED light bulb resistors. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right solution for you. Again, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I finally got to installing one of them. I got these because I had one go bad on my wifes Jeep. We put LED turn signals on and obviousley had to put resistors on. We bought the Recon lights direct from the manufacturer and they told us that they had resistors built into them. They were wrong. I bought the resistors from them and they are JUNK!!! One has already come unwired and quit working. I bought these from you and they already look better built. I installed it and it worked great! I will continue to buy Putco products and will no longer buy Recon products. I have other Recon products on other vehicles and have trouble with them also.

Sorry for the rant. Thanks for the resistors and I will probably be buying some more from you pretty soon.

Here is a pic of the resistor I put in this afternoon.

The folks provided a quality product, metal heat sink casing around resister to disperse heat - much better than the cheap plastic units sold at local retailers for twice as much. Very easy install, only thing I changed was connectors so I could use heat shrink to protect connections from water.

Still perform as well as when installed

We are towing a new flat bed utility trailer that has LED lights, with a 2013 Ford Escape. The Escape would throw a bulb error every time we put on the turn signals. Additionally, the lights on the trailer were pulsing continuously. We installed these on the trailer and now everything works perfectly! No more bulb error messages from the Escape and the lights illuminate as they should. These resistors were super easy to install, literally took us only a few minutes.

Installed with new LED tail lamps. Not sure I needed them, but I dont have any hyperflash, so all is good. Very nice quality!

by:

Very nicely made small easy to hide easy to fit in the right places very very good product if you buy LED you might need these for your vehicle I did for an 08 Winnebago class Cmotorhome.

by:

The resistors where as described and work as expected. The are well sealed and easy to mount.

by:

Easy to install, but these get EXTREMELY HOT....if someone has suggestion on how to keep them cooler it would be appreciated. Otherwise E-Trailer was a great option to purchase these from.

by:

Quick and easy install to fix the hyper blink caused by LED lights.

by:

Arrived quickly and fixed my lighting issue. Thanks for the great service
