Video Transcript for Review of Dahon Folding Bike Accessories - Quick Disconnect Pedals - 33476-1-09

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And today we're going to be taking a look at the MKS ALLWAYS Ezy Superior bike pedals. These are going to be a great way to maximize the space on your Dahon bike or any kind of folding bike. They are going to allow you to quickly and easily remove the pedal to maximize that space. So that's one less thing that's going to be taking up room.

The way to do that is that there's a little collar here. You're going to line up to remove the bike pedal. So it's kind of hard to show you this, just because it's not attached to anything, but normally since it's attached to your crankshaft, you won't have to hold onto it like I am. But just comes apart like that. No tools needed to do that removal.

To put it back on, same thing, just turn that collar around, line it up and it'll pop into place.Again, it'll be easier on your actual bike and then it slides in place. You just want to make sure that you push it all the way on, and then that little collar should pop back. The other nice thing about this, is that it's a really easy spinning pedal. You can use it from either side. It easily gives you a grip, so you don't have to search for the right side.

It's a concave design as well. So it'll work really well on any kind of rugged terrain to give you that good grip while you're riding. The one thing that the manufacturer recommends with these, is that they're not really meant for athletic use or hard impacts, tricks, flips, and that kind of thing. So if you're going to be really rough riding on these, maybe not the best option, but they are really nice and lightweight. Each of them weighs a little bit under half a pound.

So together they just weigh under a pound, easy to throw into your backpack with the included bag. So they can store in there, keeps them together and out of the way. You can throw this into your backpack and pull it out whenever you need to attach the pedals. And it's really easy. The one thing to look out for, they are specific left to right. And the way to distinguish them is that there's going to be a little tiny R and a little tiny L on each of these, right up above that collar. So you want to watch out for that. And you can see there on the left-hand side, there's a little L on the right-hand side, there's a little upside down R. To inaudible 00:02:25 those two facing each other, so you can actually see that. And the other thing to note with the left-hand pedal, is that it's also going to be left-hand threaded. So normally, riding tidy with this one, it's the opposite. You're going to want to turn it counterclockwise to tighten it on to your bike crankshaft. So that's something to watch out for. Also, as I mentioned, this is going to be the little collar that you need to turn. So to give you a better idea of what that looks like, you can see on the screen. That little white dot, you want to line that up with the black set screw, and that's what's going to allow the collar to move up and for you to take the pedal off of your crankshaft. So no tools required to do that. Pretty quick and easy install and removal. The other nice thing about these, is how easily they spin. So you can always find a good grip on the pedals, but have the pegs to give you a nice grip as well. They are triple sealed bearings. So, that's what allows it to spin so smoothly. They're made of a forged silver aluminum alloy. So, should be really strong and durable. Not really intended for any kind of tricks or flips. So you want to keep that in mind. And as far as measurements with these, overall, each one measures four and three eighths inches at the top, and then three and three eighths inches on the side.We look overall. Yeah, about four and three eighths inches front to back, and then three and three eighths inches side to side. Whenever it's. Excuse me. Whenever it's detached from this little guy, the only thing that we're going to have coming off of our bike, is about three quarters of an inch wide. So definitely going to save you some space compared to the folding pedals. And since space is a commodity for us, we want to make sure that we have that as much as we can get. You will need a 15 millimeter pedal spanner to get these installed. It does not come with that. So, that is one thing to keep in mind. It's just going to be that spanner to go over those little flat spots and get it attached to your crankshaft. The spindle thread is nine sixteenths. The maximum distance between the crank arm and your Ezy Superior Adapter, is 3.2 millimeters. That's pretty much it for this video. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if these are going to be a right addition for you. And if not, we do have some other options available here at etrailer.com. So check it out. Thanks for watching.

  • What is the Pedal Spindle Thread Size Montague Highline?
I reached out to Montague for you and was able to determine that all of the Montague bikes use a 9/16" pedal spindle diameter which means that the MKS Allways Ezy Superior Bike Pedals part # 33476-1-09 that you looked at will work perfectly. To your second question they do not have a hex key slot so you will want to use the pedal wrench when installing them.
