Hey, guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to use the Blue Ox Seat Stiffener for your Patriot braking system. Now, a lot of times what can happen with a portable braking system is that it doesn't fit just perfect with the seat that you're pairing it with, and it can be one of two things. It can either be that you can't get your bracket to mount high enough to be able to push against the seat or that the seat is too soft so that when your braking system pushes back against the seat, it's going to squish too much into the seat and you're not gonna have as accurate braking power. This seat stiffener is designed to fix that problem. You will take these double-sided tape, stick this to the feet on your bracket to be able to push against your seat with more even pressure.
We'll go ahead and get this installed on here and then we'll show you how to set it up in your vehicle. All you want to do is peel back the protective film and then stick it to the bracket that goes up against your seat. You wanna make sure it's level. It may help, too, to actually put this on your seat and then butt your braking system up against it. Now that we've got that in place, we'll go ahead and set it down inside the car and get it tightened down.
Now, before we put the Blue Ox Patriot in place with the seat stiffener on, we're gonna show you what it looks like without it so you can see the difference. So you can see here where it's hitting our seat, which is about right where you want it, but this seat is very, very soft. Usually with leather seats, they tend to be a little bit stiffer, but this is a very plush leather, so it's very, very soft. You'll also see this with cloth seats because they don't really have any integrity in a cloth. That's what'll cause it to be a little bit softer, and you don't need that when you're using the Patriot because it needs to push off of this.
Well, if it's too soft, then that's gonna affect how much braking pressure you're gonna get down on the pedal. We'll turn our unit on. It says it's ready to test, and we'll show how much it compresses. Now, in making some minor adjustments with our Blue Ox Patriot, we found that if we took our feet off and added our seat stiffener, that's really gonna get us the best pressure possible. A lot of people are tempted, they want to use those feet because they want to try to level it out, they want to get some grip on the carpet, but all reality, it's okay that it sits just like this.
And with this seat stiffener, we'll see how it performs. So get it lined up there and we can already tell that it is pushing so much more evenly on the front of this seat than it was before. Well, guys, now that you've seen how well this seat stiffener works and how much it's gonna change that pressure on your seat, that's gonna do it for our look at it.

I think that it is a ‘must have’ accessory to insure that the Patriot unit is properly backed up to the seat front
Haven't used it yet but looks like it will provide a more solid backing for the Brake Buddy.
I had to modify the bottom to clear the seat's manual slide adjustment handle. Ground off about 1/2" on the bottom about 6" wide. Worked okay after that.
