Video Transcript for Review of Deka Wiring - 12-10 Gauge Butt Connectors - DW05745-5

Hello everybody, this is Jeff with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Deka yellow butt connectors for 12-10 gauge size wire. This is for a quantity of five connectors. Now, these yellow butt connectors will join two lengths of 12-gauge or 10-gauge size wire. It will insulate the connection with the heat shrinkable nylon for adjustability and durability and the yellow color of this connector indicates the size wire the connector will fit which is 12 to 10 gauge size, and also if you don't remember the color, what size it fits, it is stamped on the connector, 12-10 AWG, which it's telling you. But basically when you install this, what you'll do is get your two wires and enough you'll strip about a quarter of an inch of insulation off the end of each wire that you're wanting to connect, and then what you'll do is insert the end of the one wire all the way in into the metal casing until it stops right in the very center, they do have a stopper, so you push the wire in there, once it stops you make sure it's in the metal casing there and then what you'll do is take your crimper and you'll just crimp down on that metal casing until it holds the wire in place, and then you'll take your second wire and do the same on the other side, slide it all the way in, the part that you've stripped off, slide that all the way in 'til it stops, make sure it's in the metal casing, take your crimper, crimp it all the way down.

Once your two wires are in there, what you might wanna do is pull on both wires just to make sure you do have a good connection, that they've been crimped correctly. If that's all fine, then what you'll do is you'll take a heat source like a heat gun and then just apply heat over the whole insulation and what'll happen is it'll cause this nylon insulation to heat to shrink and it'll completely seal around your connection and prevent the elements from causing any problem with your connection. Now this part is for a quantity of five connectors. We do also sell this in a single pack which is part #DW05745-1, and also as a ten-pack, part #DW05745-10. But that should do it for the review on the Deka yellow butt connectors for the 12-10 gauge size wire for a quantity of five..

Worked great 11 days to receive, E trailer should not use USPS for delivery.

by:

The products were ordered on Sunday night late, delivered by Wednesday. Converting drum surge brakes to disc, electric over hydraulic on a boat trailer for 26ft Sea Ray boat. I had everything including Titan brake actuator, 4 kodiac rotor and caliper conversion kits with bearings, and new lines installed by Thursday evening. Installation was straight forward, everything fit perfectly. One of the calipers was malfunctioning (not releasing). I called customer service and I had a new one within two days, it's now installed and working great!! Great product! Awesome service!!

by:

My parts arrived on time. The shipping was very prompt.
The parts ordered were all there and looked good. Haven't installed the brakes yet, as I have to weld on flanges first. Also I have to replace the SS sleeves that the seals runs on with a slightly larger one, as the new seals are larger.
I may send you a picture with the new flanges and SS sleeves in place, when I'm done.
Thank you for the great service.

These brakes were installed on a boat trailer, which is not used very often. The brakes are working fine.

by:

all the wiring products worked out great .all new connections from the truck to the trailer and the lights are a lot brighter now .new brakes next.

had no problems all the parts are working fine

by:

Made a firm connection and shrunk down to seal up the wire nicely. While these connectors are a little on the pricy side, I think they are well worth it for any wire connections that will be exposed to the elements.

It’s been a year and the connections are still working without fail.

by:

Did what they were supposed to do.

by:

Use these for a weathertite connection. These are well worth the money to prevent electrical problems from corroded connectors.

Michael

I have never regretted using the weather proof electrical connection, because the heat shrink tubing ensures a tight, dry seal. Absolutely no problems electrically.

All wire kits and connectors worked well and made for a quick install

Works great, no problems

I found a how-to video from etrailer online. Without the video, I would have had to pay someone to install (more for the wiring). Went directly to etrailer to buy the hitch for my Jeep. Very satisfied and very grateful for the service-

by:

The right tool for the job. I used the heat shrink butt connectors to install a DYI trailer hitch wiring harness for my '15 Chevy Colorado. They worked great and are keeping my wires dust, dirt, and most importantly - water - free. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Great quality connectors, and heat shrink insulators worked great.

by:

I basically ordered enough parts to replace the eitire magnetic brake / hub assembly on two (2) 3500# Dexter Axles after I replaced the bent axles that were underneath my 2011 Surveyor SP280 Travel Trailer. It turned out to be a better deal to replace the assemblies rather than rebuild / resurface what I had.
The parts that I ordered arrived quickly but were a little scuffed up due to the packaging materials used but in general the parts were not severely damaged.
The fit of the parts has been very good and to this point I am satisfied with the purchase. I suppose "the rest of the story" will be told when we go camping for the first time and see how the parts perform when "the rubber hits the highway".

CONNECTIONS STILL WORKING GREAT

by:

Just received my order of new backing plate assemblies and some misc small parts. Ordered on line late Sunday night, confirmed I had ordered the right parts Monday morning before shipment went out. Customer service by phone was superb and the gal I talked with was perfect. Shipment was on my porch Friday afternoon. I did open box and inspect shipment that arrived completely intact/good shape and all looked good at this point. Not sure when will get to the brakes on the trailer but will post again when the job is done. So far nothing but good to say about Etrailer.com. Regards, John.

by:

This is a standard Heat Shrink Connector. The clamp type connectors would be a better choice for connecting brake wiring.

by:

I used these on one of my trailers the day I got them. They worked great!

by:

Excellent products, shipped as promised and arrived on time. I have installed all the products. Although it took me longer then a professional installer, I had little to no issues. The online installation videos for all the parts (which were attached to the online order status sheet) made it extremely easy to install. The videos were of a professional actually installing the equipment step by step. etrailer.com has a customer for life.

by:

This 7pin RV side fit my 2018 View perfectly. Factory plug had the ground wire not connected. This product allowed me to butt splice the ground wire to the new wiring and complete a trip. Thanks to Bryon for helping verify fitment and fast service. All is working right now.

by:

Good heat shrink connector. Makes for watertight connection.

by:

The parts and service I received from etrailer exceeded my expectations. I am a very satisfied customer that with gladly return in the future. My thanks go out o the entire etrailer team!

by:

Changed horse trailer brake assemblies and wiring all fit perfect. No problems at all!!!! Great service! Thanks.

by:

I've used your site several times for my boat trailer needs ,everything is always delivered within a few days of placing my order. The tutorial videos help with details when I need a reference

by:

Used these when putting a wirer harness on my truck to make wire connections

by:

Worked great to install the trailer connector on our Chevy Colorado. Shipping was fast, had the order in 2 days!

by:

This was also part of a larger order. The service by E-Trailer is excellent. Products arrived when expected. Communication from E-Trailer was excellent. We have purchased products several times from them and they are professional and communication is quick and precise. Will order from them again when the need arises.

  • Parts Needed to Convert Hydraulic Brakes to Electric Brakes on a Boat Trailer 3.5K Axles
To change your boat from hydraulic brakes to electric brakes you will need to replace the hubs and brake assemblies. The UFP hubs that you have do not have a surface suitable for a brake magnet. You will also need to add wiring for the brakes and a breakaway battery. Here is a list of parts I recommend for your trailer: -3.5K Brake Assemblies # AKEBRK-35-SA -3.5K Galvanized Hubs # AKHD-545-35-G-EZ-K or -3.5K Painted Hubs # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (if you don't want to spend the extra money...

  • Electric Brakes for 6,000 lb Axle With 16 Inch Wheels
We do have electric brakes that are for a 6,000 lb axle and will work with 16 inch wheels. The only thing you need to make sure is that you have a 5-bolt brake mounting flange like part # 4-44-1, and that your hub's drum is 12 inches in diameter. Assuming you do have those things, you can choose from either manual-adjust brakes (which require Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630) or self-adjusting brakes for the most convenience. The brakes that fit are the following: - Manual-Adjust: Electric...

  • Does Wire Color Matter on Electric Trailer Brakes
Ok, so for electric trailer brakes, the color of the wires coming out of the brakes does not actually matter for the electric brakes we offer. For example, Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # 23-26-27 uses two green wires, and either can be connected to your ground and brake wiring, as you can see at about the 6:35 mark of the linked installation video of these brakes. As another example, the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting...

  • Do Trailer Lights Sparking Create a Short
Yes, the reason the lights on your trailer are not getting power is because you created a short when the wires touched. You will need to replace the wire that shorted with the wire gauge you were using, likely 16 gauge # 16-1-1, 14 gauge # DW07550-1 or 12 gauge # 12-1-1. You will need to use Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge # DW05744-5 or 12-10 Gauge # DW05745-5 and Heat Gun # ALL836717 if you don't have one. I have added a link to a couple of help articles on trailer wiring which...

Though you will need to have a 4 Flat on your 2001 VW Eurovan, and for this I do recommend the Curt # C56175, adding lights to your Kuat NV 2.0 is definitely a good idea. I went through all our options for adding lights to a bike rack or cargo trailer, and the Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201 will be the good option, but there is a potential issue. The specifics you provided say you have a 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb axle and the correct electric brakes that will fit your 12" drum are the following: - Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA. • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Engaging Without a Vehicle Trailer Brake Controller Installed
It sounds like your trailer connection is really needing some cleaning or your trailer has a brake controller integrated. Start by cleaning your 7-way trailer connector on your truck and trailer plug using some sand paper or steel wool to mitigate any power jump from one pin to another. Then use dielectric grease # 11755 to keep water and debris out of the connection and test your system again. If that tests correctly then you have a short on your trailer side of the wiring or there...

While we do not have any harnesses that measure 5 feet long, this one is the closest (4 feet long). This plug comes with a weatherproof, insulated lid that covers the terminals. If it's just the wiring that has been damaged then you only need to replace the brake wires. • How to Extend Short Ground Wire on 4-Pole Wishbone Harness
Wishbone 4-pole harnesses like # A35W42B, # A20WB, # W002230 and # A10-4225VP usually do have a short ground wire because most trailer frames are steel and they conduct well enough that a ground wire attached near the tongue will provide sufficient ground even for lights mounted all the way at the back of the trailer. On the other hand if you have an aluminum frame trailer that does NOT conduct electricity nearly as well as a steel frame then you might need to extend that 2- or 3-foot...
