Electric Brakes for 6,000 lb Axle With 16 Inch Wheels

Question:

5th wheel brakes. I own a 2007 region FA3005 fifth wheel toy hauler. If I’m not mistaken it has 6000 pound axles with 16 inch wheels what size brakes would I need?

We do have electric brakes that are for a 6,000 lb axle and will work with 16 inch wheels. The only thing you need to make sure is that you have a 5-bolt brake mounting flange like part # 4-44-1, and that your hub's drum is 12 inches in diameter.

Assuming you do have those things, you can choose from either manual-adjust brakes (which require Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630) or self-adjusting brakes for the most convenience. The brakes that fit are the following:

- Manual-Adjust: Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 5,200 lbs to 7,000 lbs # AKEBRK-6

- Self-Adjust: Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 6,000 lbs # 23-458-459

Both brake assemblies will also require the mounting hardware, which is the Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Brake Assemblies # BRKH12.

Then to connect the wires I recommend using the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5.
