There really isn't much to pull-pin on a typical swivel jack. It's usually a J-bolt made of raw steel. It gets the job done, but with it jutting out 24/7/365, it's exposed to the elements, it'll probably start to show signs of rust and corrosion after a few years.
On this Dutton-Lainson jack, the plastic housing cover provides form and function. It keeps the jack looking great, and it protects the swiveling components from the elements.
The simple truth is that salt can be highly corrosive to metal when exposure lasts for an extended period of time. So, the more you tow around it, the more you need to protect your trailer from it.
This Dutton-Lainson jack offers 2 layers of corrosion protection. The first layer is Dutton-Lainson's specially formulated TUFFPLATE, which is comprised of a clear zinc finish, chromate, and a sealant. Second, a matte black powder coat finish puts another barrier between the jack's good looks and anything that can contribute to rust, like freshwater or even saltwater exposure.
Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Zinc plating typically begins to deteriorate after about 100 hours. Dacromet usually lasts for around 300 to 400 hours. Dutton-Lainson's TUFFPLATE finish lasted nearly 500 hours in the salt spray test before the first appearance of rust (about 30% longer than a traditional powder coat finish). As for the first appearance of white corrosion, it performed about as well as typical zinc finishes.
The environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well this jack resists rust and corrosion.
The wheel on this jack has form and function. Most swivel jacks that have wheels are 2" wide. On this one, it's 3". That provides extra surface area, which translates to great stability on pavement and small gravel, and it helps to alleviate sinking in soft ground. Whether you take your trailer off-road, or it never leaves the pavement, this wide wheel has all your bases covered.
A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

Made in the USA.Very well made product. Works perfect for 30' pontoon trailer. This will fit 5" tall frame tube. Just need to turn the bracket 90 deg from the normal position of smaller tubes.

This jack is robust and tolerating the salt well. A good solid jack makes a big difference when moving the trailer around the yard by hand.

Jack is awesome! Supports my boat very well. Extremely easy to roll in and out of my garage.
Quality product and arrived almost entirely put together in the box. Bolting the side plate and jack onto the trailer only took a few minutes and it's very sturdy. Very little effort needed to crank it up and down. I have a 26' center console with about 500lbs of hitch weight and with the oversized wheel had no problem moving it around in the garage. Heavy pin and spring to lock it in the up position when traveling and down position when in use. LOVE the black color as it matches my trailer. Highly recommend.
