Excellent Corrosion Resistance

The simple truth is that salt can be highly corrosive to metal when exposure lasts for an extended period of time. So, the more you tow around it, the more you need to protect your trailer from it. The Z-Max zinc finish on the inner tubing of this jack offers great corrosion protection, even with occasional use around saltwater.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Traditional zinc plating typically begins to deteriorate after about 100 hours. Dacromet usually lasts for around 300 to 400 hours. Fulton's Z-Max finish lasts for 600 hours in the salt spray test - 30% longer than a standard powder coat finish.


The environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well this jack resists rust and corrosion.


While the black paint job on the outer tube of this jack doesn't provide any corrosion resistance, it does give it a sleek look that other metallic, zinc-plated jacks don't have.


How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Fulton Swivel Marine Jack. It's gonna have bolt-through design, so it's gonna attach here to your tongue and it has a caster at the bottom, so it's better than having that foot plate. You can actually move this around if you have it in your driveway and you need to move the boat and adjust it without hooking up to your truck, you can actually do that with that wheel. Let's check it out. It's gonna be good for medium to small size boat trailers.

It can hold up to 1500 pounds and has a 10 inch lift on it. So it gives you plenty of options for those different boats. It's really easy to use. You just use the side handle here to easily lower, like I'm doing now, or raise it going the opposite way. I like the side handle better than I like the top one, because sometimes the top thing will hit on, if this was any closer to here and you a top winder, it would hit here.

Or if you had a toolbox or something on the front, it could be making contact with that. This sideways, out of the way, plenty of room to just go ahead and lift it up or lower it down. The whole jack's made out of a marine-grade steel with a stylish black finish up here, so you're not gonna have to worry about it when you use it close to the water. It's not gonna rust or corrode on you. And it's gonna hold up for a very long time.

Another thing I like about it, keeping it working for a longer amount of time, you got this zerk fitting right here to add grease. That's gonna be good. That way you can maintain it yourself. Add the grease to keep this handle turning nice and smooth and keep it working the way it did the first time you pulled it outta the box. Got an eight-inch caster wheel at the bottom.

So that's helpful, Like I said earlier, if you need to move your boat trailer in the driveway, or even wherever you park it. You don't wanna hook it back up to the truck, just to move it a little bit, you can easily push your trailer around with this caster wheel and move it to that other place. It operates really easily. I like that. Easy to turn the handle and moves up and down pretty quickly, depending on how fast you're going, but still it's very smooth. It's not rough. You don't have to fight it as you're lowering or raising. Can go all the way down. Well, not all the way down. We'll go about here and go back up the other way. Same thing, really easy. Just kinda glides along. Doesn't catch on any spots or anything like that. When you got your trailer hooked up to your truck, the other nice thing that this does is it will go to the side parallel with the trailer tongue. That way it's not down on the ground. You don't have to worry about this hitting any bumps or anything. It's just up and out of the way. It's gonna last a lot longer when it's out of the way and not dragging on the ground. Now, if you need to go the other way with it, it also will swivel over there just like that. You got a bolt-through design, so you don't have to weld it to the trailer tongue or anything that. The bolts'll run through here, attach to these brackets back here. And they're gonna fit on trailer tongues of three by three, three by four, and three by five. It's pretty easy to get installed. And didn't take us that long. Check out how we did it. First up, we're gonna have a little bit of assembly before we install our jack, but there's not a whole lot going on, so it's not bad. We're gonna take our spacer, put it on our long bolt here. It's gonna be different from the other bolts that go on the side. Just showing you which one to use, see how this is longer than the ones that mount it. That's 'cause it's gonna go through the handle. So we're gonna have to put the sleeve around here too. Then we're gonna put it through the handle itself. So now it's like this. Gonna put that right there on the arm that's extending here, add the nut on the backside and then tighten it down. Just gonna get it started then come back with tools and further tighten it. You don't have to tighten it crazy tight or anything. Just enough to where the bolt doesn't move up and down. The handle's gonna move a little bit, but that's just because that's what you're gonna use to move around, so you want it to be able to move. But this seems nice and tight. Now we can go on to the second part, which is we're gonna mount the wheel. Take your sleeve, put it through the center, and then push the wheel right there, line up with the hole, and you can drop your bolt through. It's gonna be a shorter thicker bolt than the mounting hardware, so you'll be easy to tell which one to use here. Push it all the way through. You can spin it around to the other side and add the nut. So much like the handle, let's get it hand-tight and I'll come back with tools and tighten it down further. Now I'm gonna come back and tighten it down with my ratchet and wrench. And I got a 19 millimeter and 3/4 inch wrench and that's what I'm using to tighten it down. Just like the handle you don't wanna do crazy tight or anything like that, but wanna keep that bolt from moving side to side in there. So, we did a little bit of pre-assembly. Here again, I just ran the bolts through the top holes and put a nut in the brackets on the other side. That way we can just set it on the tongue of the trailer and it'll be easier to tighten it down. So with those pre-installed, just gonna set this down on the tongue of the trailer and I just pre-installed this. That way you didn't have to hold this up and put the brackets in place. I just got them hand-tightened. That's gonna help it balance up here and I'll add the bolts underneath now to keep it right there. Gonna come through, got my bolt right under the tongue here, and line up with one of these holes. Looks like this one, the third one, gonna work, as long as I can pull this up. It's gonna shift around as you kinda balance this. That's okay. That's normal. There we go. Got that one in. Now I can add a nut on the other side. We'll come back here, add a nut. Just get it hand-tightened 'cause we're gonna wanna go around and tighten it evenly here in a second, when we get the other bolt installed. You wanna make sure you get these straight. So that means I want the bolts sitting straight there on the top of the tongue and the bottom, but just when you're lining up the holes, make sure that's how it looks. So that's about right there. Add the nut on the other side, just like we did on the other ones. So we go to tighten it down and put the wrench on the bolt-head side. I'm gonna use the impact on the nut side. That way the nut's spinning and this is staying in place. And we're gonna just kinda slowly tighten them down as we go and just go around and tighten them. So don't fully tighten this one, 'cause then it's gonna go at an angle and we're just gonna evenly do that. With that, we'll go ahead and lower this down into position, let the caster hit the ground and lift it up off of our jack stand we have here. And now it's installed. Overall, I think it's gonna be a good jack for your boat trailer. It operates really smoothly. It is kind of basic, but that's okay, if that's all you need is just a jack, especially with the caster on there. Puts it above some of the other ones that are out there, and just having a footplate, where yeah, you park it, then you can't move it again after that. This is gonna make it easier. So you can't maneuver around just a little bit if you need to, wherever you park it. Well, thanks for hanging out. And I hope this helped..

I was not knowledgeable in different kinds of trailer jacks, but I was looking for a weld-on trailer jack replacement for an old (2006) Trail-Rite trailer (see pics).

I had to talk to a couple of etrailer people, and after doing some of my own research on the site, I found a Fulton replacement that was a perfect to replace my old Fulton. If you have this type of jack, which seems to be not very popular anymore because it appears most people are using bolt-ones now, this should fit. Keep the nut and bushing from your old jack (bushing goes inside the recessed area of the mount). The new jack will not come with those parts.

The new jack mount does not seem to be built as heavy/sturdy as the Fulton it replaces, but I guess that's standard these days. Also, most places don't seem know these types of replacement jacks still exist, and few places will carry them in stock, so etrailer is the place to go.

Jack seems to work well and the larger diameter caster helps with pushing the trailer around. I'm not a fan of the 2 bolts and backer strip to attach. While it works, it doesn't look clean. SO, I ordered up properly sized galvanized U-bolts from Sturdy built, which looks cleaner to me.

    Assuming the trailer's tongue weight isn't more than 1500 lbs and the trailer frame is 3" x 3", 3" x 4", or 3" x 5", the Fulton # F87CR you'd looked at would work great. The caster wheel is 8 inches in diameter, to make moving the trailer around by hand or by a tow dolly like # RA20 easier. This type of jack bolts the the side of the trailer A-frame or pole tongue (straight tongue). I've linked to a product description video for the # F87CR Fulton Jack.

    That's strange because if you have a Fulton XP15 Jack like # F87CR then the correct cap would be the Replacement Endcap for Fulton Round, Swivel Marine Jacks # F500324 you're referring too. This leads me to believe you have either a different jack or an older style that uses a different cap. We do also have the Replacement Round Cap for Pro Series and Fulton Trailer Jacks # PS500322 which sounds like what you're looking for but it's only going to work with 2" diameter tubes.
